Thanks for addressing my question

As l understand it, the original Mk3 vernier front system when fitting to an earlier model, required the shortening you outlined. However the later kits were changed to enable fitting without the removal of material from the front mount. It's still not that easy though and double check you have the correct later kit.

Well you've answered one of my questions in replies to others.

I have fitted vernier isolastics to a pre MK3 without shortening the mount, the kit I used was sourced from RGM rather than Andover, as I understand the screw on end caps are re-engineered to compensate for the longer mount tube, prior to these being available you needed to shorten the tube. I wonder if it's a packing error and the have sent the MK3 end caps instead of the shorter parts that fit the pre MK3 models.

I agree with you completely. I suspect the parts are wrong. Part numbers are correct. Their video says they should fit. I will have the mount cut down to match the shorter side.

Question, rather than a screw driver to help with the larger iso, could you use maybe a hose clamp to compress it? Just an idea, keep the videos coming!

Interesting thought. The next time I do Iso's (which I hope will be early next never) I will try it.

The 1973/74 MK2A came with the black plastic air filter box, crossover pipe, and blackcap (“bean can”) mufflers. The MK2A was originally sold for the European market which had issues with noise. Apparently Harley’s were still allowed to make noise in the U.S.

My standard '74 Mk2 took the Andover Norton front Iso kit (06.7337) without any alteration to the mounting. Great bit of kit.

I agree. I have installed the MKIII upgrade kits on several MKII's with no problem. But not enough kits to remember where any individual kit came from. And I think I always just bought the complete new front iso mount and this is the first time I had any problem. So, possibly, maybe, perhaps, the parts in the kit are for a MKIII mount. I have my machinist standing by to shorten the mount. I will do a follow up vid when this is sorted.

I'm pleased you referenced the earlier photos in Part 1 were not concurrent. Personally it's the initial adjustment procedure and feeler gauge checks that l would like to see filmed and detailed in real time.

Dr. Stefan Bauer worked at Rolls Royce before consulting with Norton.

Sheesh, that's a big job, lads, but I'm sure you'll prevail. Are Nortons the only bike that uses the iso system?

Love your videos but as you are working on old British bikes, and as an English man I suggest you institute a tea break. 11:00 is the traditional time

Good idea! I start fading about 11 or so. A spot of tea could be just the right thing. Cheers!
