I FINALLY found a good builder near me. The garage looks horrid, it smells like old grease, oil, trans fluid and hard work. The floors are covered in oil and oil dry, and the crew's average age is about 55, with the main builder being 70 and is the lead teacher as well. EVERY single transmission they get in he teaches the 'kids' how to rebuild and service. He is an ornery guy, but knows his stuff like Richard. SO glad I found this shop. Also found a good mechanic near me as well! It took 20 years, but I got a transmission shop and a good mechanic!
I just watched your 4L60E video for the second time!! So detailed, I super appreciate you! I have a 1995 GMC 1500, and just lost my 3/4 "gears". Just wanted to say thank you since the comment were turned off :)
Glad yall are back. I just had found your channel before your hiatus. I can watch a master at his craft work on just about anything and you have transmissions down.
Just saying richard is a master builder and teacher.. really impressive to see this wrk.. I told my son he could learn how to build trannys for a living.. great skill and there is ALWAYS work.. also a guy could do this on the side if committed.
Richard, you are a transmission wizard, the world will lose an amazing person when you quit working your magic. Your knowledge of all these different units is amazing, you need to pass your knowledge down to someone else that can carry on your expertise and quality of work. You have forgotten more about transmissions than most people know.
Awesome shirts in the merchandise store! Nice comfortable cotton and not heavy. Personally I like the light airy shirts. Got mine today. Thanks Richard, Teresa.
Hi guy, I just subscribed to your channel, and I love the detail that you have showed how complicated a transmission can be, but I would have loved to see that it was power washed before disassembly so no debris can get anywhere. Just a thought.
Have you liked the precision ujoints? Use to run moog and only moog untill they sold out to the Chinese. There ball joints on the gm/chevy use to have a metal bucket/washer/cup now they went to the dang plastic bushing and they wear out twice as fast.
You guys are great! Sending love and good energy from Wisconsin.. also do you guy build all the new stuff from the current trucks.. ford 10 speeds and whatnot
Whenever you get a chance to rebuild a GM 4T465E- HD tranny from a 2004-05 Pontiac Grand Prix Gtp Competition Group ,/GXP V8, Let me know . Other than that, I'm so glad to see you on RU-vid again.
Richard, I've got an 01 f-150 crew cab, 5.4 auto, 4x4 with 380680.1 miles on it. When I got the truck, it had about 120000.0 miles on it. As far as I know, it's the original transmission. I have had , I think it was the high pressure solenoid, the one you can put the bracket on wrong, replaced! Hows it doing?? Yes, it get fluid and filter changed ever couple of years and a Ford trac-lok additive with the change. Hows it doing in your opinion? Also, years ago, back when I was probably around 18-19, I heard about a thing called a "clutch-matic" trans. Manual trans Bell housing, foot clutch, auto matic trans body. Have you ever heard of one?
Should make a video of all the damage you find after the cleaning process. Don’t have to show the cleaning but seeing all the damage would be interesting.
I HAVE A 4R75W HAS 203,000 MILES ON IT STILL GOING STRONG AT THE LAST SERVICE YOU COULD STILL EAT YOUR LUNCH OUT OF THR PAN BEEN SERVICED EVERY 30,000 SINCE NEW
Labor saving tip for 1997-03 F-150 4x4, instead of removing entire exhaust, cut the crossover pipe out with a Sawzall and weld it back in afterwards. Common here in the Northeast, as the exhaust manifolds and collector studs rust severely, and you do not want to touch those if at all possible. A trans job can turn into new collector studs as well real fast!
richard, we are building a 71 GMC with a 700r4 for the Edelbrock sick 66 in October, bought a new convertor, the owner said to use type F fluid.......WHAATT!? but, I have never heard of this, please shed some light on this, he said the type F is better, has better results?
@bernardbush4199, I wish I understood that myself in general. I'm not really the "Mechanic" but have had to do a little work on my vehicles. Some engine gasket/component kits have been sold with certain things "not included" and then in other cases, they include things you didn't actually need for your particular application. -_-
Richard, What is your opinion on the Ford 10 Speed? I had a 2019 F150 and after it's third tranny replacement I traded it in. Im sure you have some insight :)
10R80 is junk. It has a design flaw in the CDF cylinder that they have finally addressed but under warranty you get a half assed overhaul due to poor TSB from Ford.
My 03 F150 5.4 2wd has 183K and I've never been able to find a shop willing to change the trans fluid. They all tell me take it to a dealer. Ain't no way. My bro-in-law has been a service writer, then becoming service manager for several dealerships so I know first hand just how crooked and corrupt they truly are. Adding 2K, 3K, 4K and even 5K for nothing. I'll run it till it stops then get another before i'd ever go to a dealer.
How are you dear. I have a 2008 Cobalt with a 2.2 engine and an automatic transmission. There is a problem: when I start driving the car, the transmission gear becomes hard shift after driving for 5 minutes. and then When I turn off the car and restart it and drive it again, the transmission becomes normal and smooth shift. But after continuing to drive the car for 10 minutes, the transmission returns to becoming hard shift , knowing that there is a code p1811( maximum adapt and long shift). what do you think about this problem?
