That's a surprise to me that Hunt has never been champion.i did not know that.Mark Hunt is definitely champion quality.he must have had a lot of bad circumstances in his career
Pride didn’t test for steroids so he fought mostly steroid/based life forms there. In UFC he kept getting g fed to people that would pop for steroids after their fight. In one case, a fighter was exempted from pre-fight testing by USADA and immediately popped for PEDs after the fight. But he was a warrior and kept throwing f hands regardless.
@@stevenwilliams2221 This is exactly Why Mark Hunt is one of my all time favorite fighters. A true Warrior of a Warrior bloodline! Fights because he genuinely enjoys it.
Silva was so scary back then, especially as a Middleweight in Pride FC. He was a savage in the UFC as well at both Middleweight, and LHW, but in Pride, he was the best pound for pound fighter in the world for a long time in my opinion even compared to other greats like Cro Cop, Rampage, and Noguiera. At that time, Pride FC was every bit as good if not superior to the UFC. Hunt is one of those legendary mma fighters as well. Hunt was one of those guys that nobody wanted to see across the ring from them, accept Silva because Silva is a madman. Hunts kicks had leg breaking power, and he could shut your lights off at any moment, and his striking was excellent. Hunt became even scarier as his grappling improved. His grappling never got to an elite level offensively with submissions, but he got to the point where defensive grappling was no longer a weakness in his game. Even before his grappling improvements, Hunt was so physically strong that he could get out of a lot of tough positions with pure strength, and instinct on the ground. Hunt reduced Ben Rothwell to a exhausted mess of a fighter, and Ben Rothwell was a really good grappler, and a very strong, and huge man, yet Hunt completely dominated him in every way after the first round despite all of the disadvantages. Hunt could have easily been a champion if a few fights went slightly different. He fought the best, he beat the best, and he lost to the best.
Hunt came from Boxing and K1 same as Cro Cop. They both were kickboxers fighting in real mma... That's why they had special rules fights ala Wand vs. Cro Cop 1 etc. Because their ground games were next to nothing... They both were naturally strong and as time went on they eventually became MMA Fighters..im not disputing what you said im just adding to it so if noobs are checking the comments they see these guys had actual real deal fights against monsters before ever coming to UFC.
@@danny24042002 You are correct...That's why Usman and the Stylebender lost there last fights also Those that control the betting tables have inside information on who should win or lose...Strange but true.
These 2 are both great warriors at heart. Wand accepting defeat graciously and Mark, well he's as he always is. A kind, gracious man. Great fight guys. No shame to either.
I miss Pride. The name Pride fit so perfectly with the way these beats fought. Size doesn't matter , Rules only to keep the fight like a real man fight. Win lose or draw , you felt your heart beating out of your chest!!!
Elite Hexa I honestly loved it more having some fighters who refused to talk or go to press conferences, and basically have this completely stoic and cold appearance. Now I think it’s a paycheck cut if they don’t talk trash
This is THE greatest RU-vid discovery and possibly the greatest MMA fight IMO I've ever come across! Then to have Randy and The Boss commentating. Mind Blown!!!
@@asianconnection7701 you obviously know nothing about combat sports. Giving up that much weight is a HUGE advantage to the bigger man. Do you not realize that’s the reason for a different weight class every 10ths lmao. Get educated kid
I notice lots of ppl saying they thought Silva won, but are you guys aware of how Pride style judging worked? It wasn't like the UFC, where it's a 10 point must system and the fight is judged round by round. In Pride, they judged the fight as a whole, with heavy emphesis on damage done and effort to finish the fight. So if you take that into consideration, you'll see why Hunt won. At no point did SIlva have Mark in trouble or did big damage. Mark on the other hand, did all that to him and even when Silva took him down, he could never really stay on top cuz Mark would eventually escape or reverse him. Now if it where UFC judging, Silva would have won for sure just because of the takedowns.
@rockn roll Yh. Lots of ppl and especially new fans of the sport don't really seem to know how Pride judging worked. Silva fought well enough to survive, but not well enough to win this one. All he really did was lay on Hunt and even then, he couldnt keep him down. Had it been UFC he would have won though...they factor in td's way more than hurting and dropping guys. With the amount of td's he scored, he would have probably won 2 rounds to 1 in UFC. But yh Pride was different.
ENTÃO MEU AMIGO ELES JULGARAM A LUTA TODA ERRADA,VC VIU A EXOPRESSÃO DO ROSTO DO HUNT NO PRIMEIRO JULGAMENTO?? NEM ELE ACREDITOU, TANTO QUE SEUS CORNES NEM COMEMORARAM,OU SEJA ,ROUBO NA CARA DURA. SIMPLES ASSIM.
Hunt won most of the exchanges standing up, mark was chasing him most of the fight. Almost every take down silva got, mark got up and even reversed a sub. Hunt was to big for Silva, he probably thought it'd be a easy win, but hunts stamina doesnt mach his physique.
A good matchup, against any other oversized fighter Wanderlei's natural aggression would have evened out the difference, but as low key a fighter as Mark was, the amount of power he generated was phenomenal. Not just the punches but his kicks, and ability to stand with Silva's weight not anchoring him down. In the second Crocop fight he throws a lightning fast spinning back kick, Hunt had a very deceptive physique. He carried a few extra pounds, but underneath was pure steel and his ability to recover from any hit was legendary.
Is obvious that alot of people don't realize that Silva used to fight Vale Tudo in Brazil where alot of them were open weight tournaments, bare knuckle with almost no rules.
By the Gods, Pride was greatness in the golden years of MMA. 24:08 would have caved in a cows skull, it was amazing that Wanderlei moved out of the way in time!!!!
Mark Hunt has this look in his eyes. Real nice, chill, down to Earth fellow. Good to share some laughs, food, toss back a few brews - but piss him off - biggest mistake of your life.
Alexandertheaverage Was partying with future relatives, Guamanians, very chill evening, then outta the blue they (2) attacked, they weren’t good fighters at all, but yeah, I will never trust any islander.
Yeah , always loved that about Mark Hunt. In his heyday, he was as tough and as damn dangerous as they come. All those years he fought and thrived in k1, Pride, and of course finally in the UFC. I've never seen Mark be a dick to anyone, even when he had every right to be. I never heard him predict how he'd do like all the other fighters seem to do reflexively. They're certain they're gonna win by knockout etc.......then of course being mma
Cntd- they don't. Mark is always super humble and doesn't run his mouth like all these other assholes. And don't get me wrong, I fuckin love em all, but it is nice to see a good ol' fella like Mark Hunt go against the grain
30:30 damn that punch looks crazy in the replay. Silva was a beast back then and took these punches. this was a good fight between these two fighters...
Would have loved to have seen a Pride show live back in its prime. It was a spectacle unlike anything else. It was like mma with pro wrestling theatrics.
Vanderlei era muito mais leve que o Mark Hunt que era um peso pesado e um gigante do MMA que aguentava golpes potentes. Hunt ganhou a luta porém foi dominado por um cara que nunca atuou como peso pesado!
I can’t believe that I’m watching this fight, thanx! Randy looked like he was ready to fight Hunt and Wand at the same time when he was passing out those flowers lol
Wanderlei took on ppl that outweighed him by 80 pounds. I actually expected him to win this fight and you can see mark's face of surprise at the end when he gets the decision, I was also surprised. Great fight by two amazing fighters
Yes, Silva fought well, but he didn't win in Pride judging terms. Lots of ppl don't understand how different Pride's judging system was. They judged the fight as a whole, mostly based on damage done and effort to finish the fight, which is why Wandy lost. If you look at the fight from that standpoint, you'd see why Mark won. Wand never had Mark in trouble and the most he did was lay on him and even with the td's, he never could really stay on top cuz Mark would eventually flip him over. Mark did the real damage in the fight, which is why he won besed on Pride's judging. Now if it where UFC judging system, Wand would have likely won. But yh was an amazing fight for sure.
@@jefft7705 I know that there was different judgment , but the thing is that you don't really know that rules... in case of... - (what you should know , if you are that smart)... But then , he had a similar "story"... - guess that you should figure out easy , what I 'm talking about... Ok , - I give you props , so you should not think much! ... It was a draw!!!... But why , he had lost here , if it was perfectly similar to the first one!?!... At least it should be a draw!!! AT LEAST A DRAW!!!... Besides 92,0kg(Bandalei Shiuva) "WC" 126kg(Marickyu Hanntahh) "SAA!!!"...
@Michael Aguirre yes bro but whit a 80 lbs heavier PROFESIONAL fighter its difficult and more iff is a fighrer like hunt in fact silva i thing he won or a draw but idnt see hunt winning
Silva won that fight, those judges are smokin cra ck. To be honest I really thought Silva was gonna get KOd but he recovered fast, Hunt hit him on the button clean a couple times. Credit to both fighters, it was a great fight
@@martinnilsson5295 Wasn't making fun of Hunt's weight, more pointing out how casual the guy looks before taking on one of the craziest fighters in the world.
I love how Wanderlai is hated so much while Hunt is liked that the fight announcers are laughing as they watch Wanderlai get punched. They are actually enjoying seeing the bad guy get beat.
I was too ignorant back then to remember these fights. I must have watched this fight back then for sure, but I didn't know much about the fighters or their backgrounds which was a shame I guess. I'm glad to know more about them now at least. Mark Hunt's documentary is well worth watching, strongly recommended.
Legendary fight. I used to not like Wanderlei much. He really earned my respect as a true warrior after seeing this fight. Mark Hunt is the fuckin man as well, I've always thought he was awesome. Watch his interviews, he keeps it real 💯 and humble always.
Watch with Crocop (first fight)... Silva won that too , and was robbed like here (there was a draw)... And watch fight with "Rampage" - first and second... I got that too , you can find it...
@@peterward5538 Check out Silva vs Jackson confrontation... Best was Pride FC 2003 and 2004 vs Jackson - first and second fight... Third was normal too , but Silva was already on a rapid decline... Then check out Quinton "Rampage" Jackson best of all time slam - knockout vs Ricardo Arona in PRIDE .
The judges saw Mark Hunt almost knocking out The axe murderer! But if this fight was in the UFC Silva would have won the decision! And I'm surprised to see Silva knew how to take down opponents.. I didn't know he had that in his arsenal.
I always feel a great tension when reporters interview the fighters like this. I think its important for these guys to be careful how they phase their questions.
Pride was like watching modern day gladiators humans vs lion type shhhh They said Yakuza had ownership so of course roids weren't an issue ...Glory days
