Love the athletic longevity talk Guest recommendation - Kelly Starrett. Diving even deeper on athletic longevity and/or general longevity with him would be epic! Thanks for all your pods and posts Paul dude. They've been so helpful to me!!
Thank you for coming back and providing your thoughts to us. Really digestible podcast. Great explanation as always. Even though I really like your podcasts, I believe your life is pretty full. So thank you for this one after a long time!
Appreciate the podcast as always Paul. One part of core training that I think might have been overlooked is injury prevention. As I get older (now 48) I have to do some light core training before and after I play to keep my back limber.
Incredibly insightful stuff. Recently turned 30, severe ankle sprain and a fractured tibia and Im in atheltic shape so cant imagine how much worse it woudlve been had I not built athleticism in the years before, thanks to videos like these
His fitness/S&C routines are worth paying attention to no matter what sport you play imo! Tennis players in general have some fascinating regimens. One being often kicking a soccer ball or throwing a football in warmup
@@timr8456 yeah I've just started coaching highschool tennis and we use football throws to warmup our shoulders before serving. Similar motion and swing mechanic. If you throw a decent spiral you can hit aces.
@@timr8456 yeah it's a tricky shot. Think of throwing a Hail Mary pass, you really wanna swing the arm up into the ball. And the ball must be a little out in front of you where you racquet will be if you stick your arm straight up and a little out like in a natural throwing path. Don't hit the ball if it's not in the right spot, catch the ball and start again. Most beginners don't toss the ball consistently and then lose their balance and mishit or mis-time the contact.
I generally rely on lifting or sport activity to take care of ab training, but I do add in a specific ab focused exercise one day a week where the plan is upper body lift and the next day is rest.
Learned a-lot. Continuing my hooping career @ 32. Hopefully pick start playing soccer soon. Told my self I have to learn another sport. Soccer it is. Hope to train with you one day.
In my advanced age of 35 I have started doing full range/end range strength exercises, it's helped me stay athletic and in fact has improved my athleticism. How do you feel about those types of exercises?
Question for a future pod (hopefully): As a smaller guard/basketball player wanting to improve on the defensive end. Which defensive drills should I focus on skill-wise, conditioning-wise general movement-wise or strength-wise?
Paul, does Accutane dry out the fascia and joint fluid, thereby increasing the risk of injury and reducing the chance of an athlete making it to the elite level?
Remember training age. i think you not totally true about only getting slower when hitting 30plus years. If a person is in there 20 but not doing anything only playing video Games. But in there 30, chance lifestile and get more active maybe start track they will get faster. Because it is so new for them they will get faster. But i agree if you start young you will improve much faster than when your 30 plus years
