You should try dying the covers, it prevents chipping from road debris. I did that to my S2R and I guarantee you'll love it.

+Dennis Elguera interesting. i have since plastidipped them and they seem to work, but how does one dye something like a plastic cover? :)

+Ducati NYC Vlog it's actually a very fun procedure. You need about 4 bottles of black, two of green. A 5 gallon bucket and a wire hanger. Clean all parts, remove all foreign particles from the covers (hint: don't forget the sprocket cover) Fill bucket with boiling water and add dye. Submerge covers in the solution using hooks made from the hangers and cover. Wrap bucket with old blanket to keep solution hot as long as possible. I let mine sit overnight. End result is fantastic, they will seem as they were originally black to start. to bad I can't post pictures of before and after. If you want once spring comes around we can meet up and I can show you.

+Dennis Elguera that sounds fun and epic indeed! i'm so down to try that, plus you're right, it does seem like one hell of a process :) Def down. Share a pic of your ride,!

i'm gonna do this work next week, yours are still well coloured? i'm thinking to paint also the exhaust manifolds, any advice?
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 8 лет назад
+SpRocket Yes, its still great. I actually repainted them using Plasti Dip. This rubber spray on stuff. I bought some wraps for my manifolds but i've been thiking of spaying them with super rugged high heat black spray paint as well instead of wrapping them. Not sure yet. Going to decide in the spring.

without plasti dip it doesn't last? i will try anyway and see how it goes
@ducatinyc

+SpRocket It does last without Plasti Dip, I just got a can of Plasti Dip and wanted to re-do it and make it darker black like it is now. This method works fine too :)

As they say (and I refer to other things too NYC, nudge, nudge wink, wink) IF IT AIN'T BROKEN DON'T FIX IT. Crazy yanks.

It's still not broken - it's just black :)

what happens if we remove those covers?
@ducatinyc
@ducatinyc 9 лет назад
and just ride with them uncovered? id imagine your pants and or fingers can get caught in there and ripped off by the belts. or maybe dirt and small rocks will mess things up. seems a bit dangerous with the belts uncovered.
@AntiHurdaci

oops I didn't think of it :D so ok, it can stay covered !

Cant help but say, you are not the best painter, but thank you for doing this video. Also, I would suggest, sanding the covers is almost a waste of time, mainly because its nearly impossible to completely sand the contours, but instead use paint meant for plastics which actually "eats away" at the plastic to ensure the paint bonds to the surface.

+VEHICROS Hehe, Can't help but agree, I'm def not the best painter and sanding these is a bit of a waste of time. I've repainted these since using plasti dip and it looks much better/darker/cleaner. Thank you for the comment!

+Ducati NYC Vlog When I first realized the covers are plastic, U.V. Protection comes to mind, especially here in the Southwest, the sun eats up some cheap chinese plastics in just a few weeks. But actually Italy and New Mexico have similar climates, in fact Italy is the only other place in the world that can successfully grow Green Chili.
