Had a TENS machine once, I was really happy when I bought it. I brought it home with me, brimming with hope. I used it once, was really nice. I left it outside of the package for about 5 minutes afterwards; enough time for my cat to sit down ON the stick pads😂.
Thank you for watching the video and writing this comment. Please share this video with your friends. I have lots of videos about chronic pain on my channel ru-vid.com And don't forget to turn on the notifications 🔔
I love my TENS machine for chronic pain. I have a wireless unit so that I don't have to worry about getting tangled or tripping with all of the wires and I can go about my daily activities and be inconspicuous with my TENS unit.
I need a wireless one I've had a regular wired one for a couple of years for my shoulder therapy....Jaime please tell us where you bought it and the brand please ma'am 🙏🏼
Thanks so much for this information. I’m a new subscriber. You have fabulous credentials and you share much needed information. Things I can use at home and information that I can discuss with my doctor without sounding dumb. I’m glad I found you.
Thank you Dr.Furlan for another helpful video I am grateful I found your channel I used to be your patient I wish I can come back and get some help from you .
Thank you. You offer support and compassion. I got out my old tens machine for back pain.Would like your ideas about shingles and postherpetic neuralgia. Gabapentin had to many side effects for me.
I have similar item called Micro Z II, considered EMS/TENS unit. Works very good now, but when I had screws and plates in my foot and needed to use it for reduction of pain and edema I could receive multiple shocks. This happened on low settings too. One way we tried to resolve that was adjusting time frame. Leaving it on for less than 5 min and ending session, then gradually building sessions longer. Also placing item on the opposite side of the body than the surgical hardware. My hardware is removed and I tolerate it better now. Highly recommend these units, but inform therapists and doctors if choosing to utilize them. I love the handouts Dr. Furlan offers b/c there are so many options for using these devices that can enhance pain management. Sometimes pain currents travel to multiple regions so it is nice to use it multiple areas to relieve pains or change different times of day to get relief too. My unit was covered by workman's compensation, so be sure to advocate for yourself and be persistent if necessary to receive the machine right for your situation.
Good evening milady! Ty for the video! I was going to try this, currently I’m taking Suboxone (4th week) for pain. Do you think I should take something strong but not this? I’m worried I’m making a mistake . 🌻
Thanks alot for being here after some days with a very good video. I can use it for my neck pain if i could find it here in Pakistan. Soooo much love to the queen of queens. Looking so beautiful..... 💓💓💓💓💓
Excellent video, I love my tens units, I have 3 of them. My physical therapist got me my first one at the va hospital, I had a herniated disc and am now fused. When I overdue it I still have some pain and my tens unit relives the pain, I’ll even sleep with it on. Sure beats taking drugs and for me it’s even better relief than painkillers. I’ve found placing one pad over the direct pain area and the other in close proximity works the best for me.
@@DrAndreaFurlan I wish I could have come across you in 99 when I first suffered my injury, to many doctors just wanted to give pain meds, my physical therapist at the va to me was a life saver as I was truly concerned about drug dependency. I was on 75 mg a day of morphine, a quick release and a slow release dose and they wanted to up me to 100mg, best thing I can say is I never took it as directed, those strong meds scare me. Between the fusion and my tens unit I feel like I have control of my life again, I’m 20 years post fusion now. Plus an allograft on my knee, gonna need knee replacement at some point but I’m holding out as long as possible for that.
Your not sup to keep it on over night & also your sup to put it spaced out on esthier side of your pain on litterly on it ,for it to work best ,& sup to be used 15-20 at a time up to 3 x a day ☺️
I had a disc removed from my back over 35 years ago. Once in a while, my backache is triggered by different reasons. I always have a TMS machine on hand. Together with heat and ice always does the trick.
Thanks for these great videos Dr. Furlan I love your channel! You showed how to apply the TENS all over the body but never on the face. I have corneal neuropathic pain but it has spread to parts of my face as well giving me some additional symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia. Is it ok to apply to the face? Do you have any tips or preferred settings for using it on the face? I'm already taking 100mg of Nortriptyline which helps a lot but having a bad flare right now. Thanks! P.S. I'm from Toronto too!
I’ve delt with back pain since October 1978. I’ve had four back surgeries. I had a tens machine that worked with pads and was portable, clipped on my belt. I had a double fusion of L4 to L5 and L5 toS1. Then in 2018 I had a permanent I planted tens machine installed in my body, with a hand held controller that I can adjust. After having my implant, I sold the hand held model, as I could never use it again with the inplant unit. It has helped but it’s not a cure. My pain management doctor is waiting for my last test results of ex-ray and MRI and he has already hinted that I might have to have my nerves severed in my spine, to achieve relief of pain. I’m 60 and disabled from the work force.
Excellent detailed description about TENS effects contraindications and placement of electrodes trigger points ..madam .it recollects my electrotherapy high frequency lecture on 1992 ...great awareness video .really tens plays a effective role in acute pain management ...thanks for link below to buy pocket tens in home care ...doing a great job ..love to watch .haats off .mailed you ..
It's great that you share knowhow about PAIN.... and how to get with it. You are mentioning TENS (use it myself) - but what about SCS (Spinal Cord Stimulator)? Is it god for myelopathy, radiculopathy and neuropathy? Knows peaple that "is burning" over the most of their body....
@ Dr Furlan Are you familiar with the Alpha Stim™ Machines? This treatment has been available for a very long time especially in Military Hospitals. These are, imho, much better for Chronic Pain, including Fibromyalgia pain because not only does it not have a limit to how long one can use it but it has also has an accumulative effect. With 2 different machines to choose from, it gives a person the ability to pick the one most suited to their needs. I've used both. the TENs which was much too limiting in both area and time allowed but the Alpha Stim has been a great relief for me as I can apply the patches in multiple places and use for as little as 20 minutes or as long as 24 hours if needed. I would be honored if you looked into these and did a presentation. Thank you.
Hi Vicki. TENS is most helpful for acute pain conditions. Unfortunately it doesnt work so well for chronic pain conditions where there is already central sensitization. Thank you for your kind words. I had a hair cut that day and my hairdresser did the styling for me.
I’m so happy I found your channel. Thank you for showing how TENS works. Can the pads only be used one time, or use several times before needing new pads?
@@DrAndreaFurlan i appreciate you for your support and comments i just create a little time to appreciate some of my great fans.how is your family and work?
Hello Dr, thank you for your generous knowledge sharing. Plz I will like to know the reason why I'm feeling pains and shock on my left knee down to my ankle? It's more than two months I'm getting this feelings and sometime when I walk around I doesn't feel it while sometimes it does!
I did not find tens useful for facet joint pain, it just gave me an annoying electrical pulsing on top of the pain! Tried it for two weeks. I used capsaicin cream instead.
Thank you for taking the time to write this comment. I don't have the ability to give medical advice here because I am not able to get all the details that I need and most importantly, to examine you. @@DrAndreaFurlan It is also my opinion but I was so frustrated as I was confronted with the situaton and the problem. Thanks anyway. I keep my fingers crossed.
Hi Dr I I have a wired ten's bought it for arthritis however after using it my varicose veins were becoming visible and painful. You haven't mentioned about Vv sufferers are advisable to use the machine. Old give some feedback. Thank you.
Hello Dr. Furlan! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and so thankful I did. I haven't had a chance to look back through your posts so I am hoping you could refer me to some pain relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia. Carbamazepine only worked occasionally and has caused heart problems. Indica has helped to put the pain that's in the front of my head and puts it to the back of my head but doesn't get rid of the head banging sensations I get to experience at all times of the day with nighttime being the worst. This is a different and wicked kind of electro-stimulation Thanks for your time!
Can some one variefy that putting tens, on the bottom of feet, is safe?I was told not to put them there but can't remember why... maybe because the bottom of the foot, is to boney and feet sweat a lot...??Thank you for your helpful videos. 🌹
Thank you for watching the video and writing this comment. Please talk to your physiotherapist, as they will be able to help you with an individual program. Consider subscribing to my channel. I post videos once a week about a variety of topics on chronic pain.
Hi Nan, yes, it can if it is acute pain. Please ask your physiotherapist to check for you and teach you how to apply. Before you buy the machine, you may try a few sessions with your physiotherapist.
@@DrAndreaFurlan Thankyou so much doctor. Unfortunately I fon't have a therapists my insurance don't cover them. I had a bad sciatic nerve pain issue in April of this year. I could not walk for 4 months I went to the emergency they prescribe for me some meds but did not tell me what to do so I was looking on YT for doctors like yourself and some others and was following and doing the excercise to help myself. I am still not feeling strong in my legs. I walk very slowly I used to Run in the Disney Marathon and I want to get back on my feet stronger. I am registered for the Disney 5K Princess run in Feburary 2022. Hope I can do it!
Thank you for your comment and suggestion. This topic is outside of the scope of this youtube channel. In my channel I talk about issues of chronic pain, diagnoses, causes, treatment and exercises for chronic pain.
@@DrAndreaFurlan my question was not fully asked. My apologies. I was asking if the TENS would interfere with a blood sugar monitor. I can’t go through airport security or get an X-ray/cat scan etc with the monitor. So I was wondering if the electrical current from the TENS could impact it. I guess it is somewhat localized to the area in between the pads.
Hi Mekdes, if you go to the description of the video (see below the video) you will see some options that I list there for people to find a good machine on Amazon. But most local pharmacies in North America sell these machines. If you can't find, your physiotherapist should be able to help you to find a machine.
I’ve tried tens injections chiropractor many many non opioids and not a one eases even a tiny bit of my pain. I’m now 65 and have added pain conditions including osteoporosis at age 50. I need an opioids so I can self care again. It’s the young ppl abusing drugs to get high.Stop punishing seniors
I always recommend to my patients that the cheapest machines may not have a lot of choices of current and the battery may not last longer. There are some machines that are hundreds of dollars, but I think they are way too expensive.
Hi Jan, I answered that question in the description of the video. If you go to the description (below the video) you will see it. I added links to some TENS machines on Amazon.
Cross over to the other discipline is common in all part of world. No one do there real job. You have lot of job to do unfortunately speaking about Evidence less TENS
