well done, couldn't get down there to film it - thanks for that, can't complain the fireman didn't have a good chest of steam, the safety cracked as soon as the regulator came off!

Beautifully filmed. I like the way you included shots of the other enthusiasts: it added to the excitement and atmosphere.

Great video, like the crowd of photographers. I was on the 3 coach SWT from Waterloo that had just left your platform. I was so tied up with the Dart, Torbay and Cathedrals Express I had forgotten that ACE was running that weekend. What was even more sad was that I had just travelled down from Brookwood station, where I now see it was going to stop for water later that evening!!!!! Dave

Very nice to see the ACE. I used to travel on it in the late '50s up to '62, three times a year. Between Bideford and Waterloo. I don't remember it struggling up the Exeter incline like that, but I guess it wasn't as heavily loaded. If I remember correctly, it was 11:00 from Waterloo, platform 11(?). I also remember a chap used to get on at Waterloo with a large dog that had a collection box strapped to its back. This was to collect money for the Southern Railway Orphanage. For quite some time after this dog, stuffed, was on display in a cabinet at Waterloo. Salisbury - tapping the wheels. Also, signs in fields saying 'You will soon be entering the Strong country.' Strongs being a brewer in Romsey.

Romsey born and bred (strong in the arm and thick in the head) with one of those big hoardings on my walk to school, I appreciate the reminiscence. Ours read, ‘You are in the Strong country’ and when the wind blew up from the town we certainly knew it. Always thanked heaven that Romsey was a brewery town and not a tannery town. I remember a stuffed dog too for the Orphanage, though my memory would be of Southampton in the 60s. My grandfather was a Dorset railwayman sent down to the North Cornwall line in the 20s where he met a young Cornishwoman and the rest, as they say, is history. I must have travelled on the ACE to see family, but don’t recall the journey, sadly.

Well the fireman always gets the blame. Its a hell of a load for a small Packet even with banker assistance. They got there !

Beautifully prepared locos, and a Rake of discussing coaches, hope when the Covid lifts, the public are not expected to travel in filth like these.

Great shot. No idea what Braunton was doing “Banking”. Not a lot I hear.
