I have had my Charger Ute on the last two Hot Rod Power Tours. It is a blast. I can't long haul this year but hope to see you at one or two of the stops. Check out the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals. We should have five of the Charger Utes there like last year.

I saw that there were a few in Carlisle last year. I’m in central MA and have yet to see a Smyth Ute in person. But looking forward to the tour!

I didn't see your foam for "water management" at the bulkhead (bed side). I would suggest You read the instruction manual and look at everything Smyth related on youtube. Also the Facebook Group is loaded with facts in archive and by just asking. I have some concerns on the B Pillar rubber seal actually keeping water out.
@1half.fastgarage
@1half.fastgarage Год назад
Didn’t foam. I hate that stuff. Terrible to work with and may actually make more of a mess than it’s worth IMHO. I do agree with you regarding the seal on the B pillar though. This is not going to be my daily driver and will hopefully never see rain (fingers crossed). The old Ford gets its share of water past the seals as well. Just part of the hobby I guess. Thanks for watching!

How do you replace rear shocks with bed in place
@1half.fastgarage
@1half.fastgarage Год назад
Great question. Although I haven't attempted this yet, you remove the rear shock from the wheel well. The bracket is accessible from the wheel well, and two bolts hold the bracket to the shock. This video explains it quite well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gsZ_sfU_j6A.html

Looking good, doing it right. Perfection takes time... 😎 ...and graft your oem bumper underneath the new bumper to provide support for the new rear qp behind tires...
@1half.fastgarage
@1half.fastgarage Год назад
Thanks for the suggestion. The oem bumper is still in place, and only the bumper cove has been removed. I like how your thinking!

How many hours do you think you’re into this? I’ve got an old Rampage and this looks like a fantastic replacement option. Excited to see the outcome of your project.
@1half.fastgarage
@1half.fastgarage Год назад
Not that many. Maybe 20 hours all together, so far. Those Rampage’s were cool, but small. This is like a modern day El Camino! Keep watching and tell your friends!!

Depends on what your goal is. My Jetta Ute went from a decent driver to something I want to make show worthy and use almost daily for nice days. I have a problem tracking my hours with hands actually doing things. Alot of time is spent being an engineer,and thinking ahead, unlike new car manufacturers. You don't want to I stall a part,and find out the next step is hidden behind what you just did. Since that's the case with my build, I've lost track of hours but I will say I get weekend evenings (4-6hrs each) and 3 nights a week(3-4hrs each) Since I've been at it since the beginning of 2020, I've gotta have 5-600hrs in it. Thing is though like I said ,half that time is probably staring and drooling at it what to do next. The part that took the most time so far was polishing the bed ,that took 4 months (3 longer than expected) but it was worth the effort it really pops. Bedliner is boring, I'm not worried about scratches much either as it gives character. I'm fairly close to getting the fenders on but I feel like the boy who cried wolf every time friends ask when it's gonna be ready. I keep saying I'm close🤣 At least I'm closer to the end than I am to the beginning!
@1half.fastgarage
@1half.fastgarage Год назад
I hear that. I'm trying to build something a little better than a 50/50 (looks good 50 feet away at 50 mph). It certainly is ALOT of thinking, and planning so that you don't panel bond something in the wrong sequence. Bed liner is BORING. I have something special planned for my bed.......

@@1half.fastgarage haha I was tempted to do it all in the engine turned look ,but polishing was bad enough. Still, I might do that on the little tailgate insert to cover the cables.

I'm in the same spot you are, took 8 months to get my parts. Didn't realize there is a manual, doing all my fitting on my own.
@1half.fastgarage
@1half.fastgarage Год назад
I hope the channel is helpful, somewhat. I downloaded the manual from the Smyth website, and printed it. Would love to see pictures of your build.
