The ancient Khmer civilization, centered around the magnificent city of Angkor, was once a thriving empire that left an indelible mark on Southeast Asian history. From the 9th to the 15th centuries, the Khmer kings reigned over a vast empire in present-day Cambodia, creating remarkable architectural wonders and advancing their society through art, culture, and religion. At the heart of this majestic empire lies the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, a temple complex that stands as a testament to the Khmer's architectural brilliance and cultural richness. #khmerCivilization

The Rise of the Khmer Empire:
The Khmer Empire emerged in the early 9th century when Jayavarman II declared himself a universal monarch and established his capital in the region of present-day Cambodia. However, it was during the reign of King Suryavarman II that the empire reached its zenith. Suryavarman II commissioned the construction of Angkor Wat, a colossal temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, as a symbol of his authority and devotion.
Angkor Wat: A Jewel of Architecture:
Angkor Wat, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an architectural marvel and the most famous symbol of the Khmer Empire. The temple complex covers an area of 402 acres and showcases a unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist elements. Its intricate carvings, detailed bas-reliefs, and towering spires exemplify the Khmer's mastery of stone craftsmanship. Angkor Wat's design represents Mount Meru, the mythical abode of the gods in Hindu mythology, and stands as a testament to the empire's spiritual and artistic pursuits.
The Temples of Angkor:
Beyond Angkor Wat, the Khmer kings erected numerous other temples in the Angkor area, creating a vast architectural landscape that spans over 400 square kilometers. Each temple boasts its own distinctive features and significance. For instance, the Bayon Temple, built by Jayavarman VII, is known for its intricate bas-reliefs and its enigmatic stone faces that gaze in all directions. The Ta Prohm Temple is famous for the way it has been reclaimed by nature, with massive tree roots intertwining with the temple's structures.
Khmer Art and Culture:
The Khmer Empire's art and culture flourished alongside its architectural accomplishments. Sculptures, statues, and paintings adorned the temples, depicting scenes from Hindu and Buddhist mythology, as well as the lives of the Khmer people. A significant artistic achievement of the empire is the "Churning of the Sea of Milk," a famous bas-relief found at Angkor Wat, which showcases a mythical tale with remarkable detail and artistry.
Decline and Legacy:
The decline of the Khmer Empire can be attributed to a combination of factors, including political instability, environmental changes, and pressure from neighboring kingdoms. The capital was eventually abandoned, and the once-mighty empire fell into obscurity until its rediscovery by European explorers in the 19th century. Today, the legacy of the Khmer Empire lives on in the ruins of its temples, captivating tourists from around the world and inspiring awe with their grandeur and intricate beauty.
The Empire of the Khmer Kings and the magnificence of the Angkor Wat capital stand as testaments to the cultural and architectural achievements of ancient Southeast Asia. The Khmer Empire's dedication to art, architecture, and religion produced some of the most awe-inspiring structures in the world. The intricate carvings, elaborate temples, and cultural legacy of the Khmer civilization continue to inspire and captivate visitors, showcasing the enduring power and beauty of human creativity and ingenuity. The Empire of the Khmer Kings remains an extraordinary chapter in human history, one that has left an indelible mark on the cultural heritage of Cambodia and the world.

A lot of the info provided is incorrect. Thailand never occupied by any foreign. Some of the land southern part of today VN belong to Khmer empire and the Champa kingdom not the land of Vietnam. Vietnam land at that time was in the North of VN today and Central and part of the southern was part of Champa Kingdom.

I'm only 5 minutes in and this has many errors. Thailand was never colonized, the word Khmer doesn't mean mountain people, Suryavarman reign was until 1150, not 1145, Ta Prom is not the only temple with wooden walkways (Beng Mealea has more than Ta Prom), Khmer was a written language during the time of Angkor and there are written records from that time, just few lasted, Angkor Wat took 37 years to complete, not over a century, and Tonle Sap is not a city. Also, at least 1 picture is not real but AI generated, and some temples are mispronounced (but not as badly pronounced as I've heard on other videos). I think this video might have been AI generated as it loops itself like others I've seen. So I watched a little more while writing and another issue. Tonle Sap does not mean great lake. Tonle means river and Sap means both to spread out, and also freshwater. I take offense at calling the current Cambodian race degenerate.

There was really only ONE other people on earth who built at the PRECISION and exquisiteness at which the Khmer did: the Athenians. But whereas the Athenians lived in a very rocky, hilly topography, and so, other than individual exquisite BUILDINGS, they could only do haphazard city blue print lay-outs.... this area where Angkor Wat City --- when people think of Cambodia, they only think about and/or see the exquisite main Temple, that is on the Cambodian Flag; but it a giant city for around 1M people, with modern day, PERFECT GEOMETRY, from giant dug-out superficial lakes to next level temples built using precision cutting techniques ---- is FLAT and LARGE, so the Angkor Wat City... was done exactly like modern 20th and 21st century CIVIL ENGINEERS with their modern machines and surveying equipment WOULD DO IT... The ruins and over-grown, over many centuries have prevented people from seeing the exquisite nature, the precision at which the ancient Khmer built this city... so here, THE FIRST RU-vid VIDEO.... an older GERMAN RE-RENDERING, using 3-D computer ANIMATION... BASED ON ACTUAL RUINS, shown in bits & pieces by the SECOND RU-vid travelogue video.... both authenticated by both satellite surveys and on-the-ground actual ruins: ---- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Baq_XB-fugI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dcWoW-YUCng.html These two brief videos/animation, along with the discussion on this video here by ODYSSEY OF EMPIRES.... should be enough to convey to you the next level master-builders of the Khamer. Not even the mighty Chinese or the Japanese --- the better known people and empires in Asia --- designed and built a city of this majestic, of this exquisite, AND OF THIS SIZE... until the 20th century.... EDIT: The West never conquered Thailand, as it was erroneously suggested here, starting at 1:30. The West ---- the French and then, later, the Americans --- did "conquer Indochina" (which was made up of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam)... but NO WESTERN NATION every conquered Thailand. Thailand in Asia and Ethiopia in Africa.... are two of the rare nations/empires in today's so-called THIRD WORLD that escaped official conquest by Europeans or White people.

Very confusing. This is just a string of bits of information with no cohesiveness at all. As someone that loves Cambodia, I find it a shame that its rich and interesting history is not conveyed in this video.

The architects, planners, engineers, spiritual advisors, astrologers and experts who designed and built ankor wat were from India. They brought with them hindu mathematics. The Khmer structures and their surrounding areas are based upon vedic geometry and science.

😂😂😂 WAYTA 😂😂😂. India that came to Cambodia Khmer was in the 1st century. That was back in Funan Empire. 😂😂😂. The temple was built in the 12 century. That is 12 hundred years apart. Khmer is Hinduism and Buddhism. So, of course, Khmer and India, there got something in common. That That doesn't mean India craftsmanship was the one design it.
