During your fishing attempt I noticed the RedFish Raft up T-shirt for Kelly McGuire and the Galveston Bay. I was there and have the blue shirt with the logo. Small world! We hope to be crusing when I retire. Great to watch your video's Currently our boat is at Watergate Marina on Clear Lake. Keep posting love following your adventures!

+csranch2000 So cool! My wife ran Star Fleet Yachts and we lived in Kemah before we sold everything to go cruising. So we were probably on the Star Gazer when you were at the raftup! We still have family in the Clear Lake area so keep in touch and maybe we can meet up the next time we get back to Texas.

hello from Halifax!! i latched onto your videos the day i saw your boat in the harbor and followed your journey since! too bad the maritime weather was.. maritime for your visit to downtown :( my wife's family is from north Sydney, cape Breton. too bad you didn't make it to Indian harbor i grew up in a little cove called modesty cove which is just off of Indian harbor, there is an island called shut in island just outside of the basin that may or may not have a magical lake at the top if you hike there very glad to see you enjoyed our humble province! Cheers!

Ahh, it's too bad you didn't stop by and say hi! We LOVED Nova Scotia and Halifax especially. It's still one of my favorite places we've been to. And not to worry, I grew up in the Seattle area, so the maritime weather felt just like home!

Nice drones views. Love how you sail out off popular route. Being from Canada, it's even more interesting. Don't worry about all those life jackets and harness comments. You are growned up and knows what best depending the condition

Nova Scotia is still way up on my favorite places we've sailed to. It was so beautiful and with catamarans being so rare up there, we felt like celebrities! I do find it flattering that people worry about us, but you're right. We are quite cautious when we feel the conditions warrant it, but I'd be surprised to hear of anyone who wears life jackets and harness all the time!

Before we bought Starry Horizons, we had a smaller 30' catamaran we sailed in Galveston Bay outside Houston. We also did a couple Caribbean sailing charters on bigger cats we were thinking about buying. And to practice some small passages!

Is that a Sea Eagle Fast track kayak? If so how's it working out for you? If not what is it and how's it doing for you? Thanks. Great video! Love your channel!
@OutChasingStars

Thanks for watching Laurence and glad you're enjoying the videos! We do have a Sea Eagle kayak, but it is a SE370, not the Fast Track. We do really like the ability to deflate the kayak and store it away and we've used it to do some exploring in shallow places we wouldn't want to take our dinghy. So overall, we like it!
@floridayachtbroker-jimross5768
Looks amazing and thanks for sharing. Who made your hard top Bimini? It looks really stout. Is it powder coated aluminum? Is the top fiberglass or something else. Also I'm in the market for a Helia 44 and I was wondering if you could do a video of your yacht going through all the storage areas and gen and water maker placement. Thanks in advance. Jim
@OutChasingStars
@OutChasingStars 7 лет назад
Thanks! The hard top bimini is fiberglass and was made by a company called M.I. Productions in the Tampa Florida area. The frame is powder coated aluminum and was made by a company called Artful Canvas out of St. Petersburg. Not sure when we'll get to doing a tour of the boat (I've started and stopped that video several times!) but I have done a video about how we make water which shows both the genset and watermaker. You can check it out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LbEvMEm9Qis.html

Hey David and Amy, i am just curious how two folks your age purchased a Helia44. ? I just gotta know, it been on my mind through the videos. Also great job on that tuna! { if you would like a little more luck on those long trolling trips, have as many lures in the water as possible.(feathers, poppers, corks, rubber squid) theses types of lures ride the surface of the water and splash, causing a big ruckus that offshore fish just cant ignore. While a single lure or lures riding under water may slip passed unnoticed. I think using this technique you will find your freezer full. PS- love the videos

+erik nulty Hi Eric. We both feel very fortunate in our lives so far, that's for sure! Before we left "land life", I worked for Shell negotiating commercial contracts and Amy had bought out her family business and was running it. We knew we wanted to go cruising, so we lived well below our means and saved as much as we could. Before we left, Amy sold her business, so that also helped fund the cruising kitty! Thanks for the advice on fishing. We'll keep trying and hopefully get better and better!

@davidgor508

you know what. why you didnt get the fish, your ship too fast and you must lure the bait far away from the wave tail.
@OutChasingStars
@OutChasingStars 8 лет назад
+David Gor Thanks for the suggestion, and I must admit I like being able to blame our lack of success fishing on sailing too fast!

+Out Chasing Stars An old fisherman in Italy told us to put out 10m of line per knot of boat speed. it has worked for us. but i think your doing just fine. And if you get the tuna up on the surface just pull and plane him right onto the sugar scoop. and bang into the boat.

i will agree it is amazing and beautiful. I lived there for fourteen years and left a sister married to an islander on PEI. But no my cup of tea. you would absolutely love the west coast of Canada. Sailing to Alaska is amazing. good luck in your travels. And see you in Europe.

FWIW...Life jackets can be worn. I watched the 2 girls in the inflatable kayak and thought...yikes...one capsize and you might have a problem. My Rule #1 was/is always: "Life Jacket with PLB ON before ENGINE START...and ALWAYS in the dinghy (or kayak). Sail safely.
