1: 20 Scale Mini Hydroplane Wood Kit Build Series Pt2
In this video series we're gonna build the 1:20 Mini Hydroplane Atlas vans All-wood laser cut kit. My first all Wood Kit, so bare with me. This kit was designed by Dr. Jet Based on the 1/16 Scale Plans by Garry Finlay.
What a beautiful kit well made and kinda rare. Same process/ procedure can be used on most any wood kit build.

A little water proofing before putting on the deck skins will help the hull last a long time

Save time with sanding dust. Prefill with a lite dusting of baking soda.

Yea, I've got a old spice bottle that I put baking soda in I use it all the time. Thanks brother.

There's one Atlas and 3 Roundnose kits left. I am thinking of doing "Short" kits where I supply laser-cut plywood parts only along with templates for the balsa parts and an equipment list.

Is the peace in bulkhead c the Servo mount? The center peace?

I know it's not the right way, I glued the nut plate DOWN for good and didn't want to mess anything up. Lol. It should work.

Got a question, I noticed that you and doc are using out runner motors. Is that to counter the torque of the prop or would an I runner work also

Yea, you can run an inrunner. Boat runs good either way

Might be a dumb question, but why is there only one turn fin needed?

Usually hydroplane boats make a right turn so the turn fin holds the boat in a right hand turn. A Hydro is Designed and Built to do 1 Thing and that's Race around an Oval Track As Fast As Possible in 1 direction, you could put 2 turn fins on the hydroplane and that would give you the ability to turn left & right, but the fins would fight each other and possibly slow you down.
