Thanks Ape. This is AWESOME. I have watched all of Callum's MMANA vids and he is a great explainer. But you say things in a different way and so I learn different things.

Hi Ape, My God I wish I'd seen this video last week, I downloaded the MMANA software and got really pissed off with it. 😂 However, I went in totally blind without having read about how it works or anything. Your description/tutorial, really makes sense now. I have to say though I am a 5/8 wave fanboi, if you build them right, they are a lot more effective than a 1/4 wave or even a 1/2 wave. Thanks for the video, mate. 👍

for skip on the ground is fine ... but in country.... hight 20m 1 wawelenght abowe ground defently give a way falatter earth wawe... so the wawe hugs the earth way longer before taking off in ARRL JESSUP and ROTHAMMEL a 1/4 has minus 1.5DBd andd a5/8 wawe has +1.5DBd so 1.5 over a 1/2 half wawe and 3 DBD over a 1/4wawe. 3DBd is still 50% longer earth wawe.. then a 1/4 same hight.. remember 6DBd is X4 to dubbel RAnge .. .. a 5/8 Wave (7m) on 11m is a 1/2 on 20M 1/4 on 40M just do the math why make so freakin complicated.. if you use a SIRIO4000 8.4M long then You got a 7/8 (3/4) on 10 11 12M and a 5/8 on 17/20M and a 1/2 on 40M with Gamma Match it dont have to be complicated .. most amaturs like to complicate the antennas way too mutch

Excellent and thank you for showing. The thing i missed is a good radial wire network. In my opinion a vertical always depends on a good radial network. Not for impedance bit for take off angle. Otherwise you have no idea of efficiency in real life.
@TheSmokinApe
@TheSmokinApe 11 месяцев назад
Yeah, they are very helpful for takeoff angle and minimizing ground loss 👍

If you wanted to raise the "wire" above a ground plane (and I realize you may not need one for a 5/8 vertical), which parameter do you change (Y2)? Also, if you wanted to add a loading coil at the base of the "wire" how can this be modeled in MMANA? Is that choice available in some tag in MMANA? Does anyone have a podcast that illustrates how to use the "Loads" section in MMANA? Thanks!
@TheSmokinApe
@TheSmokinApe 7 месяцев назад
I haven't found a good solution for elevated ground planes using the ground radial feature. You could and extra wires in the geometry tab. If you chose the "setup" menu item you can change the feedpoint impedance under Standard Z to match your "load" coil, if that's what you are talking about.
@bbigboy01
@bbigboy01 7 месяцев назад
@@TheSmokinApe I am trying to raise the antenna above the ground plane, not the ground plane itself. As you raise the antenna above the GP, the impedance will change, allowing for a better match between 50 ohm coax and a 5/8 height antenna without the need of any matching devices. Also I'd like to model a loading coil at the base of the antenna, and was wondering if anyone knew of a way to do this in MMANA? Thanks for the reply though. 73's!
@TheSmokinApe
@TheSmokinApe 7 месяцев назад
Gotcha, not sure about raising the antenna w/o the plane. The was have have seen folks model the coil is by adjusting the input impedance but I get it's not that same. Sorry I am not more helpful.

@g0fvt

IMHO a 10m quarterwave at ground level is a poor choice, although MMNAGAL models it fine. Bearing in mind the real life environment that my vertical is in, fences, rose bushes etc relatively close in to an antenna that does most of it's radiation from the high current portion that is closest to the ground. The point being that the MMANA model might work if I had a football field to mount my antenna in but I don't, the antenna cannot directly "see" any sky at a 5 degree elevation. A current node further up, such as you have in the longer antenna will yield a lot more advantage in my environment than the MMANA model suggests. Too many hams have become slaves to SWR, and the resonant antennas nonsense. Best to get the pattern you want before devising how to drive it. With the ground mounted verticals raising the impedance also raises the efficiency, thank you for the presentation.
@TheSmokinApe
@TheSmokinApe Год назад
Thanks for the insightful post. I agree, the model is just that, I representation of how your antenna should perform in the conditions modeled. It would tell you have it will perform in real life.
