Excellent video. Thanks! I just started modeling after a 40-year hiatus (haven't built one since I was a kid). I'm building a few of the older/cheaper classics to develop my skills and had just bought this one. You gave me some great ideas!
2nd decal scheme is for RNZAF New Zealand Air Force, as a Kiwi that would have been nice to see. I Like the SBD, great history for that airplane and looks pretty cool.
I think the figures are better than the kit to be honest. Just the way I collect planes. I don't put any pilots in them. But I'm working on some figures now, we will see how they turn out lol
Hello mr.resmo!that is a quite nice boxart. The modell itself is more a fast dish.kits like that ones are great to introduce our little ones to scalemodelling. Your narration is no way boring.keep on going.and thank you for sharing. With sticky greetings from germany.your modelmate. Christian
Hey thank you christian! Thanks for watching and yes these little revell kits are just quick bunches of fun! Moving on to more detailed builds now that I have most of the Revell ones out of they way. But they are so nostalgic and great airplanes
That was a absolutely outstanding build build sir, the colour and weathering, ame out perfectly, congratulations on a job very well done mate, bext regards from Australia and a Very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year
I have a couple of the older Revell Kits like this. They aren’t that bad actually. Currently working on a testors p51 mustang in 1/48. Merry Christmas 🎄
I build them for my 3 yr old nephew and he plays with them. Sometimes they break and he loves to examine it to try to fix it. So much for him and I get to build them. 👍🏻
You have done a superb job on this old kit! I am very impressed by the growth of your channel! Any tips or suggestions? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Drew
I simply detest that grey patern in a dauntless. I love the navy blue-grey-white patern. Seeing that model, I feel a sad wasting of chance to it. GOOD VIDEO, anyway. Positive point!
The bomb holder doesn't stay up so it just falls to the ground. If I put the torpedo on there it would be dragging on the ground. I didn't want to glue it if I wanted to hang it up one day. So I just opt3d not to do it lil
Revell/monogram in which monogram made most of these aircraft kits.though some are toyish were kits ahead of there time.a whole lot better then most aroura and linburgs kits of that day.still great kits especially in there car kits which blows away amt, ertil and mpc when it comes to detail and fit...
I built this kit a few months ago. Didn’t like the US Navy star decals either. Got a set of aftermarket decals. Much happier with how the insignia look.
When I first saw those US Star roundels provided, I thought that they looked like they were drawn by a 5 year-old. I did a little research and learned that the Navy had small roundels on their planes during the Battle of the Coral Sea (May 1942) and hurriedly had them all painted larger for the Battle of Midway (June 1942). They were done in a rush and many looked bad. I think that sloppy look may be what they were going for with the decals, but don’t know for sure. Either way, they look like they were made by a child and, even if that’s what it is, it looks bad and requires a lot of explaining.
I'm about to build one of these. i plan on a lot of scratch detailing and weathering etc. lots of paint chipping. oil stains etc. looking forward to it but the decals look rubbish. I would be better hand painting the effect they are looking for. I think I might source a new decal set online. it would annoy me to do all that work and then have the crappy decals. cheers lads
@@wildolan sadly, as I mentioned above, those decals are historically accurate for the month between the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. They could have made them look better, though. I picked up some plain white & blue roundel decals at my hobby shop and used them. The Navy switched to these after Midway, so I figured “close enough.”
@@boatingexplainedwithcapndr8359 hi, If the actual planes looked hand painted or rushed. I was thinking it might be better to do some stencils and try painting myself. I haven't done stencil markings before but every model is a learning opp ☺️The decals really don't look good. your explanation was very interesting context, thanks for that
