I thought that it was pretty ironic that he was on camera after the TD. Two years later, he would have his own last-minute, game-tying drive vs LSU in Baton Rouge.
And then doing the same thing to them in their own house again 2 years later - in my opinion Blake's drive had just a little more pressure - taking nothing away from A.J. - Blake had not been able to move the ball well, all night - then making plays with his arm and feet to tie the game - if he had 20 more seconds in the Semifinals game against Ohio State, that result would have been different I believe - 2014 team is my favorite Alabama team in the past 14 years - they had a lot of heart and fight in them - was not too many easy game that year and dam near played for a National Championship
@@squanchinator27 who eventually became the starting QB, broke all kinds of SEC records, and led his team to the playoffs. Let’s not act like Blake Sims was some scrub.
A.J. had balls of steel on that last drive. Everyone remembers the final screen pass to Yeldon. Kevin Norwood is the guy that really killed LSU on that drive. His route running and clutch catches are what made that drive happen. Norwood was unquestionably McCarron’s go to guy when the chips were on the table. Great trust between them.
Watching this game as an Alabama fan I was stunned. I didn't believe there was any way LSU would move the ball on our defense. But Mettenberger played the best game of his life, and AJ played an awful game. LSU's OL dominated our DLine most of the night. Bama escaped with a victory, and they made the plays when they needed to. Great game and props to LSU.
This is the game that made me a Bama fan. The fact the couldn’t do anything in the second half but Saban just kept coaching and then the last minute drive down the field. The emotion from McCarron was infectious.
Yeah, I'm not sure if they just loved Zach Mettenberger, got caught up with the crowd or whatever it was, but that touchdown really deserves a better call than a distraught Verne Lundquist glumly reciting the yard markers that Yeldon is passing.
This is a real football game. Great plays by the offenses, defenses, special teams... Not that pathetic bullshit that happened between West Virginia and Baylor this year. Props to both teams in this game.
33:50 32:56 As an LSU fan, I’m man enough to admit, the 2012 Bama Oline was greatness personified, and they were opening gaping holes against one of the greatest defenses in LSU history.
I am a junior at Oregon, and there is no doubting that Alabama is the best team in college footbal right now; but I really hope that this up and coming year is the year that Oregon meets Alabama in the NC. I think it is a game a lot of people want to see.
this game was so crazy...IMO though, LSU won it. They played like beasts but that final drive...what else was great was seeing just how loyal the fans were days afterwards. Bama's fans were so smug and prideful (Im not a fan of either team but appreciate the art of the game) and LSU held their heads up with pride. Imma be looking for LSU's qb, but Bama's qb has the chance to become a legend. I'm sure hes already a hero in Alabama. If he pulls off a second championship...legend.
I am a happy Bama fan, and I could not happier for the the fans of the other nine teams we'eve beat.It seems like you all finally have something to be excited about. Its sad that Bama losing one game to another team , has brought you more excitement than any of your wins......
I thought it was ironic, maybe prophetic, that CBS focused on Blake Sims 3 times on the sideline prior to and following Bama's game-winning TD drive. Sims would have his moment two years later when he led Alabama on a similar drive to tie LSU, and then win in OT. Love this rivalry!
Defensively, that 2011 team was statistically the best ever in CFB, it's pretty hard to match that. The offense however was clearly better than it was last year. Losing Richardson was big, but both Lacy and Yeldon make up for it, the O-line was clearly better, and the receiving corps was better to thanks to Cooper. No, Bama didn't shut down everyone like they did in 2011, but as it stands the Nick Saban/Batman prep time meme is true.
This was a game for the century! I was sitting in a pub in Carrollton, Georgia amidst a very divided crowd. Lot of Alabama fans, but LSU has a strong following here as well. Now that was a night to remember. Belligerent, drunk, pissed off parties on both sides- until that complete upset. Then it was pandemonium!
To add on- i remember at the postgame conference, saban said lsu was the better team. Whether that was coach talk, follow saban for a long time, i think he knew alabama should have lost. Most of your wins against top 10 SEC opponents have been with late game stops or plays- georgia and lsu."Good teams win consistently but great teams find ways to win"- saban comments after 2003 lsu championship season. Congrats on winning the title. This game was one of the best games i have went to in tiger st.
alabama has had last-minute wins before. alabama has beaten top-5 teams on the road before. but never had they done both on the same night until this night in baton rouge. that screen pass is up there with stabler's run in the mud against auburn, the goal-line stand against penn state, the kick in the '85 iron bowl and mount cody's rocky block in '09. yet another classic moment in alabama's rich history. ROLL TIDE!!!
Even though I hate Bama with a passion obviously, I will gladly give them props for playin a great game and overcoming tremendous adversity. They played a helluva game and both teams represented the SEC in an outstanding way. IMO these are the two bet teams in the nation when playing their best. But once again, nice job Bama and look forward to seeing you guys next year. Geaux Tigers ! SEC !
even though we lost, this was a great game. the stadium was alive that night and going to games for 20+ years I have NEVER heard Tiger Stadium that loud. every first down sounded like a touchdown. great game. wish the Tigers would've come out on top. Tuscoloosa, we're coming for you.
was there man. One of the loudest and craziest and hostile places i have been at. It made it all sweet when we took the game away from them in that final drive. Tiger Bait my ass. Roll Tide. One of the most classic and greatest games I have ever seen Live. My ears are still hurting.
Any Bama player rubbing it in to the LSU faithful is a hero in my book. Nothing like seeing 90,000+ get their collective hearts ripped out when they thought they had the game in the bag. Warms the soul.
This game reminded me of the '79 USC game. LSU beat them both good all night. For USC, Marcus Allen made one incredible run and USC won by the skin of their teeth. Same with this game and Yeldon from Bama. .
A Strong argument can be made that Copelands personal foul in the second quarter cost LSU this game. They were inside the 20 when he took that flag and they turned the ball over on downs and got nothing. Points were at a premium in this game.
Les Miles cost LSU this game. Fake FG, onside kick when his defense is playing well, 4th and 1 when he could've taken a short field goal. A perfect call into a blitz was the final nail in LSU's coffin, though.
I believe that loss to A&M prompted Nick Saban to start thinking differently about where the game was headed in the SEC. He started recruiting players who could run the spread offense and hired Lane Kiffin in 2014 to put it in action. Nowadays, Bama is one of the most prolific offensive juggernauts in the game. The new RPO rules stress defenses much more in today’s game. It’s much harder to call a defensive scheme. You’ll never see defenses dominate like they did in the early 2000’s.
@@reginaldhall6871 - good point. Can’t disagree with that. For a time, I think Coach Saban felt he could still overcome the spread offense with elite defense and a ground and pound running game. His genius is his ability to see the writing on the wall and adapt accordingly.
@aeromedical6750 *"His genius is his ability to see the writing on the wall and adapt accordingly."* Yes. pure genius. 2004 LSU, 15 pts from 9-3 to being 5-7. "Let's get the hell out of here." 2006 Miami, "Let's get the hell out of here." 2023 AL, 19 pts from 12-2 to being 8-6. "Let's get the hell out of here."
The players all said the hitting was ridiculous. I forget which one, but an Alabama player likened it to being hit by a bus the day after. This game took a lot out of Bama . Probably a big reason why they came out flat against Texas A&M the next Saturday. Anyway, Roll Tide. The game ending drive for Bama goes down in history.
Honestly, im a die hard LSU fan and i respect Bama. LSU & Bama nearly run College football. But Oregon is coming up as well. This season is going to be a great one because LSU has many key returners as well as Bama but they lost their best corner. And Oregon is just ready. This season is going to be crazy in College Football.
I wish i could say the same , but in the SEC you & I both know it's every team for themselves. I do however wish every UA's ememies the best in their bowl games & I'm proud to have you guys join the South Eastern Conference, see you in College Station next year.
I know, but they used to rank in the top 3 every year, even Notre Dame has a stronger class coming in than LSU. When a team starts to slip, this is usually how it starts, they lose a few games one year, then they lose a bunch of players, the recruiting slips a little, next year they lose a couple more games, then recruiting slips more. Of course I could be wrong, but I'm gonna predict that LSU loses at least 3 regular season games next year.
I’m watching this game because bama just lost to LSU 😑 I’m bothered by the loss I’m trying to feel better by watching this awesome game I still get nervous watching the last drive 😂 Love AJ 😃
God I love Alabama Football! WOW! And haha Brandon Simmons! Tiger stadium wasnt too loud there at the end when we stuck that dagger in! Roll Damn Tide!
This is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of EMOTIONS and NCAA FOOTBALL. ......because the next week = a Bama letdown in 1st half and lost at home to Texas A&M BY 5 !!! THIS is the HARDEST THING to COACH !!!
Yep. Hard to get back up for the different style that Texas A&M brought to the table after this one. 2012 Bama season was the best in the Saban era. Bama won 2/3 against the best QBs/teams in the conference, and all games could have gone the other way. Combine that with the mauling they dished out to Michigan and Notre Dame at the beginning and end of the season, and you have got a gem of a season!
@Andrew7244 *"Combine that with the mauling they dished out to Michigan and Notre Dame at the beginning and end of the season, and you have got a gem of a season!"* Let's laugh. Michigan was awful. Finished 8-5. ND in 2012 had not beaten a top 15 bowl team since 93 and as 2023 they're 0-14 against top 15 bowl teams since 93. Nobody believed that NC was legit.
ROLL TIDE, baby! Gotta love those Aggies. After experiencing the total assholism exhibited by the Alabama fans after this year' LSU/Bama game, I could not be happier for you tide fans.
it's the highlight of their season... they still don't win any championships.. props to them on the Bama game... but they still needed Bama to make mistakes in order to win... the result won't be the same next year...
Super k, Alabama played the 2-2nd best teams in Uga and A&M. They were 5 yards better than UGa and probably lost to ATM because of LSU ( and Johnny).LSU had the best team in America a year ago and were still capable this year. There was no better competition.
I like how he's saying without LSU's mistakes, Alabama doesn't win. Hope he realizes that Alabama also blew many opportunities and putting LSU in position to put the game away. Better teams prevail, LSU could not overcome adversity, and Alabama could. Alabama>LSU.
Graham Melancon The reason she was shopping for a home in Austin, Tx is because he & Coach Saban's daughter is close to giving birth so that we they could not only be close to their daughter but to their grandchild as well.
As an Alabama fan , AJ McCarren was a good player ! But his emotions and especially his PRIDE kept Bama from winning 3 in a row !!! .....After Sports Illustrated cover "Crimson King " or "King Crimson" went to his head and divided the team .....it was all over , as far as the 3 PEAT went !!!
They lost their chance at 3 in a row on the “kick six” play in the Iron Bowl. That had ZERO to do with any failure of AJ McCarron. If anything it was the fault of the coaching staff for not having anyone on Special Teams with actual speed when they lined up for the FG attempt. They didn’t win 2 national championships in spite of McCarron you twit. He was the unprecedented leader of those teams.
everybody talks about how passive lsu's defense was on the last drive. they're WRONG. watch the video: lsu blitzed 4 out of the 5 plays on the game-winning drive. when it came to crunch time, bama's O-line did a phenomenal job against lsu's awesome D-line.
They DID show up. Did you see how fired up they were at the start of the game?!? It was all Miles could do to hold them back. But hey, Bama was PISSED--they outplayed LSU in Tuscaloosa and should've won. Four missed FG's - if those had been good, Bama wins 18-6 w/no overtime.
Its amazing. If LSU wouldnt of lost to Florida, it could of been the exact same scenario as last year. #1 travels to #2 and wins in #2's hostile environment after getting completely domianted from start to finish. That becomes LSU's only loss of the season. Then later in the season after Bama goes undefeated the rest of the seaon and beats Georgia just like LSU did last year, LSU would've got a rematch in the BCS and possibly had a mulligan. Crazy stuff lol
On top of that LSU struggled against Auburn, Towson, and Ole Miss. I actually think LSU might be on the decline. Basically the Alabama game was the best game they played all year.
I put this game neck and neck with the SEC Championship against UGA as the best Bama win under Saban that was not for a National Championship. Bama won this on sheer will not to lose.
