The first person that has really helped me see and understand the lip formation! Thank you so much Didge Mama, I've got a lot of practicing to do but at least now I know what to aim for!
So cool you discovered this amazing instrument!!! ❤️🎶☀️ Never too old to learn something new. But my oldest student was 92 yo 😘✅. So you will be amazing in 11 years! Have fun 🤩 with my tutorials. And if you feel stuck at any moment, please let me know, I’m here to help. ❤️🎶☀️
I just bought my didgeridoo last week and I’m super excited to learn. I’ve never played an instrument before, but it’s never to late to learn right? When I got it home I was expecting this beautiful sound to come out when I first blew on it and all I got was a pitter putter “puff” haha the air didn’t even make it to the other end 😩 right then I got total respect to all the didgeridoo players out there who make it looks so beautiful and effortless. I decided I was going to master it, I WILL learn! I spent the entire weekend looking up youtube videos with instructions, and there were lots, but yours helped me tremendously, and I’m Excited to follow you. I got my drone, only one note and a only a single breath, I’m only there so far but practice makes perfect right? You play it beautifully Didge mama ❤️ I’m Excited to start this new journey.
Hi dear Susanna, I am so glad you got the drone sound, so nice, right? It is such a nice feeling In your body. I wasn’t a quick learner but enjoyed every step of the way. Enjoy my tutorials and good Luck with it! Any questions about the content, please let me know 👍❤️🎶☀️
Hi dear Steve, thank you!!! I’m so glad that you are enjoying my videos. I hope they will help you a lot. Keep enjoying step by step to learn to play this amazing instrument. ❤️🎶☀️
I've started on 110 cm Didgeridoo and bought 185 cm....On the small one I have no problem at all ,but the big one....I'm just stuck. Cannot play simple note. I'm trying and I can only keep the deep sound for 1-2 seconds. Deep water I got in.
My pleasure 😇! Really keeping the middle part outwards, sometimes you need to blow more up, and really keep the lips together! Good luck and if this doesn’t help you can always send me a video of you trying to my @gmail.com ❤️☀️🎶Didge mama
heyy, really liked this video. I kept noticing people playing from the side of their mouth and so I tried to imitate that. I got the sounds but I was unable to unlock certain other things but yeah playing from the middle makes so much sense. I can see some progress. Thanks!
Damn! I started playing from the corner. I can get a droan at least.. i just cant seem to get a good vibration from the front. No matter what i do😢.. Hope you see this message Mama 🙏🏻 blessings
@@karlhallett1372 yes in the beginning your lip corners are strong enough maybe. See if you can slowly move to the front. Also your mouthpiece might be too big. Good luck ❤️☀️🎶
I am not hitting the true DRONE sound that I should be getting. All my efforts sound like I am blowing in a plastic horn, tuba, megaphone etc. I can't find the electronic drone sound that you and other didge players get the moment you start blowing.
Hi dear Jeff, Your lips are probably too tight and using to much of pushing air. So make sure you don’t have too much air in your lungs and make sure your lips are outwards (like a duck face). Hopefully this is helpful, if it still doesn’t work, I will be happy to help you via a Zoom lesson. So we can look at it together. ❤️🎶☀️. Good luck
Just beginning, and I find getting the higher sound difficult, it just goes to nothing. Will keep trying, I would really like to be able to play something on the didgeridoo!
Hi dear Christopher, Make sure you don’t overblown but think to put a little idea of going to the toilet for a number two, if you understand what I mean. Good luck and have fun! ❤️☀️🎶
Might be a daft question, but do you put your lips right up to the didgeridoo, or do you leave a gap from the mouthpiece? Can’t quite get the right sound yet!
Is actually a good question Christopher!!! I push the mouthpiece really quite strongly to my mouth, I really make sure I have a perfect seal. No air should escape. I hope you can find the right tone soon. It might also be the didgeridoo, if it has a leak or something it is really hard to get the drone. Good luck and ❤️☀️🎶
Hello from England, I'm 76 yrs old, due to health issues I have no teeth, and I can't wear dentures. I bought a didgeridoo but I a having difficulty making the drone sound. I play guitar and other string instruments, but I think this didgeridoo has got me beat.
Yes will be difficult, but not impossible. Think you have to first train your lip Muscles a lot and maybe do play on the side. I would love to look at it together with you, if we can make it possible. Are you up for that, John? ❤️☀️🎶
Thank you for your question. It depends on the tribe. Some tribes are fine with women playing. Up in Arnhemland where I spend some time, some tribes were okay with me playing, others were not. The why is that it is part of ceremony, and what I gathered is that in ceremony it is part of the male ceremony. But it is also a fun musical instrument for any one to play. This is what I think is the why. ❤️☀️🎶
Thanks a lot for the great tutorial! I got a question: I think I got the drone (there is a deep and a higher sound when I am playing and with the tongue and the cheeks I can change it). But the high sound is way more quiet. How can I let it sound louder and more clearly? :) Thanks alot and greetings :)
Thanks for your question!Interesting because normally the higher sound is more loud. Maybe can you send me a soundfile or video? So I can reply in a good manner. To didgemama@gmail.com. Thanks. Love and light
Heel fijn uitgelegd.
Yes absolutely, this year after June will get more tutorial content. And I respond and help with all the questions asked here. Sending love and light 🤩❤️🎶☀️
Hi there, I thought I answered you, but I guess I didn’t. So for me it is 2.8cm in diameter. And a tiny bit oval. But it took me a year of trying to figure it out. But the2.8cm is a good start. 👍😀
@@DidgeMama Hello and thank you so much for your tutorials. I apologize for asking again, as 2.8 cm seems to be very small since most didge players/sites talk about 3.5 to 4.0 cm and I see some players with their whole mouth in the didge? Is yours really 2.8 centimeters? I am wondering if I should make my didge that small to try out? Shall I ? Thank you again.
christos alexiou yes try!!! If you want to play multidrone, maybe you can go to 3.5cm. But if you play in front of your mouth, please don’t make it more than 3cm. Or you have enormous lips 😉
Hey Didge Mama. Thanks so much for your natural energy. Just started didge a week ago and found you straight away. Really appreciate your videos X go girl
Hello Lies, I just started before, on the side of the mouth. Was just getting a better drone and managed the circular breathing. After this I found your clear lesson 1, so now I'm trying to get the same sound from the middle. The same hole seems bigger now, also the didge is very close to my nose now, but more difficult to get the right sound and do the cb. Is it a matter of practice you think, or I do something wrong? I'm tended to go back to the side but I like to follow your nice and clear tutorials. And I'd prefer the middle position. Thanks for putting the videos up and for your help❤
Hi dear Marise, Thank you so much for your clear and important question. 👍 Two things, yes the mouthpiece might be too big for front playing. It should be around 2.8 - 3 cm. And the mouthpiece could be a bit bulky, so your nose is in the way. So if it is too big, I made a video on making a beeswax mouthpiece, that can be helpful. And if it is too bulky, maybe you can build it up a bit, so it is easy to play. You can always make a little video and send it to my 📧didgemama@gmail.com so I can have a look at it and give you some advice. ✅ Also we can look at it together in a free 15min online lesson. 🎶❤️☀️
@@DidgeMama thanks loads, will check that video first and see what I can do and thanks for the opportunity to have a look together. Highly appreciated! Might contact you in the near future. Either way. Grateful for your existence and sharing🤗😘
Greetings from South Africa and thank you for your tutorial. I am a crazy 72 year young man who bought a didge last Saturday on an auction and will learn to play. I searched the web and you tube for someone who can explain simply you hit the nail on the head, plus you are saying practice for a week. My lips have never had so much exercise😀 Thanks again for your time and look forward to part 2 regards Quinten
Hi Quinten, I also glad! And hopefully you will keep enjoying. I used to come every to SA, to Klawer to be precise. For a project with underprivileged children. Sadly with the COVID story, I haven’t been. Where are you based?❤️🎶☀️
@@DidgeMama Didge Mama Am based in Estcourt Kwa Zulu Natal about two hours from Durban near the Drakensberg. I am so pleased that covid seems to be slowing down. For all its problems South Africa is still great hope you can visit again, as you will know many of the children here are suffering😭 Best wishes
@@quintenswanepoel933 yes lots of kids don’t receive the love and attention they deserve. I have never been your way. Big country. Lots of beauty too. Keep playing didgeridoo!!! ❤️🎶☀️👍
thank you for sharing your expertise, it is truly helpful. I am beginning and have the lip buzz ok....but can not seem to transition to the breathing part, so I look forward to seeing how you can help us in that respect. I want to be a good daughter!!!
Hi question.. I've been using my tounge to vibrate my top lip, I was wondering if you're supposed to use your tounge to increase or decrease speed, or just lips
I have a didgeridoo it looks kinda ornamental I do get a sound from it but the opening has a nasty coating on it like to buy pne...how doI choose a didgeridoo that's right for me..I don t read music so bit lost thank you ?
Hi dear Sian, My tutorial #23 is about choosing an instrument. I have only top end Didgeridoo’s for sale. Two from duende didgeridoo, made by amazing maker @dubravko Lapaine. And one by also fantastic maker LB didgeridoo @bertrand labourdette. Have fun finding your new best friend 😉✅. Love and light
Lip flapping=Raspberry or motorboat! LOL. You were absolutely right about not playing from the side of your mouth. I couldn't get the pulsing drone sound playing from the side of my mouth. Tonight I said: "I'm going to take Didge Momma's advice and play fron the front of my mouth." I got the perfect droning pulse on a $3 piece of PVC pipe and all I could do was laugh for about 5 minutes when I realized I was doing it wrong the whole time! Love ya Didge Mama!
I habe a question. I got a digeridoo from Bambus. I am a beginner. I can do play the digeridoo BUT I cannot do the right breath. I need a lot of air to do sounds on my digeridoo. Can it be, that the Bambus Digeridoo isn't the best to practice playing a digeridoo? Or is it only my fault?
Hello amazing videos ❤ I want to be a great player i can get sound but feels like I'm doing somting wrong struggling dont understand how Bigg the hole should be and feel like. Can you help me. Thank you
Hi Adito, Thank you 🙏! I made a video about the mouthpiece, size etc. Hope it can help with your questions. Also some didgeridoos are not so great instruments. Good luck with catching the basics first and then slowly move to the next video. Any more questions? I’m here and happy to help. ❤️🎶☀️
@@DidgeMama thank you I think the mouth pice is good when I watched you video. Do you have time some time for video chat so you can se what the problem is 😊
Hiii., plz help Guys, i just can not buzz INSIDE the didge with the seal touching the lips. It obstructs me from produsing any buzz whatsoever. The seals ring just traps my muscles dead, i let the didge rest on chin. I tried putting didge on the floor and not to rest on chin to remove the pressure. Doesnt matter, as soon as the didge seal encloses my mouth - its dead. I can buzz without the didge, reproducing what is shown in the video. I have Meinl Trombone Didge, complete beginner. What am i missing?
Hi D, You probably need to make the mouthpiece bigger. Or really learn to make a perfect duck face. I will be happy to help if you are up for a Zoom class? Love and light
Thank you for your comment, and how wide is your mouthpiece? Because it might be on the small side. I hope if you can provide me with more info, I will be able to help you! Love & light
@@DidgeMama I was gifted a mid sized dedgeridoo here in India . And have searched the net for videos and urs is the only one which explains it the best 💐💐👍👍thanks
@DidgeMama I bought one a few years ago and couldn't make any sound close to what it should be , so I gave it away . After watching this video , I'm thinking about trying again. This was absolutely the most simple and informative video I've seen on the subject. Every other tutorial seemed to make it way more complicated than it needed to be . Thank you .
This is marvelous, I started with a 2 evening class from Sky Guasco, who played keyboard and Didge with the band Sol Seed from Oregon when they came to play in Billings, Montana. Got a PVC didge as part of the mini class. As I am a carver I decided to make my own didge from Diamond Willow, my favorite carving wood in spite of the unsuitability of it. The reason it isn't ideal is that the diamond shapes invert towards the center so when split and hollowed you wind up with about 3 dozen three dimensional puzzle pieces that have to be custom made and fitted to seal it up. Took me about a year of part time working to finish it, but as I said I love working with Diamond Willow. That being said, my focus was more on making, but continued to practice as well with my PVC, but missed out on most of the basics of playing. Have especially struggled with circular breathing, I keep thinking I am doing it and people in Didgeridoo Learning Community have been helpful, including sending me a link to your CB tutorial. After seeing it I am now starting with #1 and going to view all of them to give me the basics. Once I work my way through all of them, probably multiple times, I plan to reach out to you for lessons to tie it all together and tweak what I have learned. Thank you very much for putting your experience and excellent teaching out there for us!
Your awesome mama ! I’ve been following a few other teachers. But your instructions are simplified clear and very understandable, I started from the side of my lips as I had more success in drone cb bird calls. But’ I couldn’t make the voice the toot’s. I’ve been following you the past few weeks I’m so grateful in your instruction. I have now beeswax my dodge to 28mm. I’m starting again from the front. Tho my drone is not yet apparent. I tried some voicing ✅ CB✅ I believe once I get the drone happening again, like you say at the end of your videos you will be a good didge player. I do this for the soul the harmonica use to bring this to me. But I really feel the inner soul buzzing inside when I’m droning. Love and light to you Mama D mean AZ buzz Chur Te
Thank you my friend!!! And a tiny bit on the side is okay, just make sure the lip edges are not covered by the mouthpiece. And I understand that the drone on the side is nicer now, but if you can do it well on the front, it will benefit so much the coming techniques. Good luck and if you keep struggling, let me know, I will give you some more pointers. Have fun and good luck!!!❤️☀️🎶
I’m finding that my mouth is open more to make a drone when I cheek in On air is coming out. So I’m practicing your lip drills will this increase the strength of my lips. Any way I’m trying this, I do go to the side (nownthen)to see if it’s the size of the new mouth piece. As it feels a bit different. But thanks again Mama D
That's what i was trying to explain to my friend. It's not about how well you breathe, it's about how efficiently you can buzz your lips with as LITTLE air as possible. The better you can buzz, the less air you need to play overall.
I am a beginner player. I have an inexpensive synthetic didge: Toca DIDG-CTS Curved Didgeridoo Brand: Toca. I want to get a good, easy to play wooden one. I would like one with a higher drone. Do you have any suggestions what I could purchase and where to purchase one. Thanks.
In aboriginal culture, it is considered disrespectful for a woman to play the didgeridoo. I am not being sexist, simply stating that this is culturally inappropriate. You are great at it though. Just wanted to let you know. Keep it up 👍
My absolute please!!! And it was fun doing the class with you. How is Circulair Breathing going and hitting your perfect note, straight away? Have fun and see you soon for your next lesson ✅❤️🎶
I've been playing a little for about 18 months, watching lots of different teachers, and found that useful, so I'll follow you. My biggest frustration is can't seem to hit any high notes and I'm not sure how to improve this component. I still have a gap in my circular breathing unless I quicken it up with a bounce breath. Maybe you might cover these points in future tutorials. Thanks. Peter, Australia.
@@DidgeMama High voice, would like to improve animal sounds like dingo kookaburra dog bark, any notes that add more sound variety. Much of my playing has a sameness about it. Thanks.
@@petermarshall7882 in the tutorial about the voice, I explain that the high voice you focus it from the stomach. So stomach goes in and throat is open. Good luck 👍
Thank you. Wish I had found you years ago. I have been playing on side of my mouth, badly haha. So now I am trying to correct this. Thank you for your help
Wow! That is the best explanation. The only one who actually teaches about the lips needing to move and doing a side view. Wow. I will practice this. Actually, amazing. Yes. My tone is very, very deep/low. I will practice now this lip exercise. Amazing. I am excited to get the right tone.. FINALLY! I'll message next week when I've completed this. Thank you Didge mama
@@DidgeMama haha. Thanks didge mama. Still working on it for now. When I get it, I'd love to have a lesson, possibly leading on to regular lessons. If it suits you, of course. Thanks again
Hello DidgeMama...I was introduced to the sacred instrument many many years ago the sound grabs my soul I just ordered one a beginner one to try..i was searching and searching.. and found you're RU-vid so I will be practicing thank you
@@DidgeMamaHey Mama! An update, there is quite a lot of progress. Well, the lips don't lie😉😂 I'm working with the cheeks a bit, as the lips and tongue work and coordinate and bring out good music. Circular Breathing is also a challenge... Will keep you posted! Thanks again for these lessons! Sending love and peace from Ukraine! Stay healthy and strong. Later Gater!
