Moonveil Dragon was already strictly better than Shivan Dragon. It fire breaths all of your creatures at once and isn't Legendary. I know someone will get technical and say that both are a 6 drop but one is 3RRR and tbe other is 4RR. But if your intention is to get good pumps you are likely playing mono red or a dual land deck that has no problem getting plenty of mana.
Truly fits the dragon, in lore, Inferno is a CR 40 ancient Red dragon, mind you his mom Tiamat is a CR30 dragons, which in d&d means stupid powerful, i’m liking this set more and more.
@@tigerbomb909 I don't know if you care, but "affective" should be "effective." As a side note for if you're at all interested in linguistics, "affect" is a verb which does not resemble an adjective and therefore cannot accept the suffix -ive. The word "affective" does exist, but that's because there is a noun hononymous with "affect" used in psychology, which bears enough resemblance to an adjective to accept the -ive suffix (i.e. affect "emotions or desire" can be modified by -ive to become the adjective "relating to moods, feelings and attitudes" (more or less "relating to emotions or desire")).
A good combo would be Nettlecyst and a card that makes lots of treasures like Ragavan. get enough treasures and other artifacts until he is 19/19, pump him up to 20/20, sacrifice a treasure so Inferno goes down to 19/19 and you get one red mana and then activate its ability to pump it to 20/20 again. Rinse and repeat until all opponents are dead.
After seeing this I purpose built the deck to include a ton of treasure token generation and it has been pretty good. Outside of a vandalblast no one is going to mess with your treasures so they can sit around till Inferno can hit the board.
Not quite that, but was in a three player game with Pramikov, Hydra player is going off, I've got him sicced on RU spellslinger deck, but that luxury is about to end. RU player is like "How many lands are tapped?" to which I respond "In response to that question, I tap 9 lands."
Yeah or on an ETB effect like Dockside Extortionist where ive seen as much as 20 treasure tokens be created. Red has some very explosive ways to generate mana. Perfect for this cards effect.
one aura that could be quite useful for this is Thunderous might it gives the enchanted creature +X/+0 where x is devotion to red. i have gained like 15 extra power with this a couple of times
You don't even need a second creature to use Sigil of Distinction. You can equip equipment to the creature that it is already attached to, paying costs and all the like, it just never becomes unattached and doesn't count as triggering any when this becomes attached effects. Half the effort.
I was thinking the same but wasn't sure. Now i am sure! good to know :) I'm planning on building this too, I think it could actually be an extremely strong deck since (as mitch said) it's easy to kill 2 players in 1 turn. Also don't forget that you can ofcourse activate the firebreathing at instant speed, so if you have an infinite red mana generator that's 20 damage every turn :P
I don't think sigil of distinction needs a second creature. The rules text for equip doesn't specify that it needs to target a creature it isn't already equipped to.
Ah yes, Shivan Dragon 2.0. I am so happy about this because I have a special place in my heart for shivan dragon. I first started playing with a free demo deck from my legs which was mono red and the main big thing was shivan dragon so although I only started playing magic in like 2016 I have loads of nastalgia for shivan dragon.
PSA: You can activate equip abilities targeting the creature that the equipment is currently attached to! With Sigil of Distinction attached to Inferno, you can remove counters even without another creature to attach it to, and you only need to remove one counter at a time.
My friends and I are each building budget commander decks using the Chromatic Dragons from the new set. I was lucky enough to snag Inferno as my commander! Really glad you uploaded this!
Not for nothing, but I'm 90% sure you don't need to have a second creature on the battlefield for sigil of distinction. Pretty sure you can re-equip an equipment onto a creature that's already equipped with it. In 99% of cases it would be pointless and stupid, but it's just an activated ability, and I don't see any rule that says an equipped creature is an illegal target. It would be like regenerating a creature multiple times
As A Certified Judge for Magic the Gathering, I do believe there needs to be some Clarification pertaining to the triggered ability of this creature. It does not activate simply because a player was able to raise its Power to 20, a player must raise it to 20 "in this way". Meaning, if they are able to raise its power to 20 purely by boosting with Red Mana, or, top off the 20 by at least 1 Red Mana, then the ability is triggered. There were some debates about this during our last FNM, so far this has been the official ruling. Have fun and remember, its just a game.
I actually designed a ran a 5e statblock for Inferno of the Star Mounts a while back, and may I say, it was soooo much fun. Just an absolutely challenging blast.
This would actually be really cool in a Syr Gwen of ashvale deck because there are 2 equipments you can use to make it count as a knight and then it's just equip stuff to it and have enough red mana source to blow up your opponents.
....Fiery Emancipation, plus this guy, plus God of Fury(I think he's the Excess Damage one)...Since Fiery Emancipation tripples all damage dealt, you do 60 to on creature, then triple the leftovers to another, then triple, then triple, until you're killed every creature on all the opponent's boards, and *then* kill someone with the excess damage.....unless that's not how it works, but that's how I'm reading it.
I’d use Pemmin’s Aura. That gives him -1/+1 and works around the problem that you’ll eventually kill the dragon with lots of -1/-1’s. The best I’ve found until now is a 5 card infinite combo with Pemmin’s Aura, with the pirate Malcolm, Arcane Adaptation and a (treasure) token doubler like Xorn.
There has to be some combination of permanants that you can just slowly build up and combo off uncounterable at instant speed and win with this ability. Equipment can't do that at instant speed.
Add chandr's incinerator and toralf. Deal 20 to face, then 20 to creature, remaining damage to face and repeat. Toralf will even let you switch to a new opponent in some cases
@@destinal_in_reality so does it have to be exactly 20? like if im running a boros deck and swing then use sword dancer to give it -1/-0 then pay a red with a double activation putting it at 21/6 would that stop the effect from going off?
My only question is the text reads “when it’s power becomes 20 this way.” Is the rules going to state that the 20 power has to come from the ability to cause the 20 damage? Otherwise really fun card I want to build around.
They can both copy the ability, but unless the copied ability is specifically getting Inferno to 20, it doesn't deal the damage. You can't just copy the Damage ability.
Good job on softening your voice, it's so clear how much better this is for your vocal cords just by listening. We're watching for your content anyway, no need to force it!
I don't think artifacts can be used. The card literally says "gets +1/+0 until end of turn. When it's power becomes 20 'this way', it deals 20 damage to any target." It's ability only activates if you use mana to buff it and no other sources i.e. most artifacs, sorceries, and creature abilities.
Well this is my new go to dragon, feel sorry for my play group, none of them like commander, so we play modern, and i watch alot of commander stuff to get ideas of combos, and well to their annoyment, i really love dragons, and like 6 of my 10 decks are in some way based on a dragon, and this will be number 7 whenever i can get the money
Oh, time to build a second mono red dragon commander... And get an extra copy for Lathliss. This set is making my dragon power fantasies spiral way out of control~
BLAZING SUNSTEEL!!!!!! Equipped creature gets +1/+0 for each opponent you have!!!!!!!!!!!!! One shot for days. Also Kediss feels like an auto include in this deck.
I’d be interested in seeing a infinite mana outlet with this guy. Make infinite red -> deal 20 to someone -> make an infinitely powerful dragon and swing in.
That wouldn’t work. His ability need to be the thing that gets him to 20 power, and that increases it until end of turn. So if you had it on him, you would activate, hit 20, take it off, activate and hit 20 again.
@@Melkorios My bad, I usually listen to the videos, so I was undee the impression it was a triggered ability below firebreathing. Oh well, could've been cool.
Ahh yes my Sylvia Brightspear an Khorvath Brightflame, Dragon Knights deck needs another double striking monstrosity, with options to just end mf on the spot.
Skull clamp is +1/-1. If you start popping players the most efficient I have found has been Blazing Sunsteel but beyond that there are a few that can be quite useful as well. I enjoyed the idea of contagion clasp because it gives a -1/-1 as it ETB’s and works well in conjunction with the Serrated arrows because it has a tap ability for 4 that proliferates, replenishing the arrow counters and the -1’s.
Man, I love your work Mitch - but lately, your content is bogged down with self promotion/call backs. Nothing wrong with that, but the crux of the episode doesn't start until a minute into the video, sometimes more!
These titles are getting really clickbaity. The last one stated a one-card combo that was nothing like a one-card combo. This one is NOT 1mana = 20damage. It's building a whole freaking deck to get to that 20 damage... which is what all decks try to do and not what the title suggested.
