#1 Oklahoma Sooners at Alabama Crimson Tide - 2003 - Football 

@chrisjonscott I am a Sooners fan since birth (from Fairland, OK) and just so happen to be a Bama grad. I love both schools and both teams. As fate would have it, I moved back to Oklahoma (to Norman) two months before a probation-saddled Bama came to town. I worked off of Hwy 9 and on Wednesday before the Norman game I saw 3 Alabama RVs pull in front of me. The previous regular-season record for registered RVs was 65. Wednesday, Bama had 82. At kickoff, Bama had 310.

Seems like another lifetime thinking back to when OU could play defense. The 2003 defense was right up there with the 74 and 85 teams as one of the best defenses we ever had. And it's funny to think that of the four teams Bob Stoops took to the national title game, I would have ranked them in order 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2000 but it was the 2000 team that won his only national title.

Bama is an honorable opponent. When their fans were in Norman they conducted themselves with decorum. The same cannot be said of other SEC fans.

@chrisjonscott I went down to a makeshift Alabama "town" and all the Bama fans were smiling and saying how great the experience was. Bama fans respond to high-quality programs and fans in kind (e.g. we have a great relationship with Penn State).

Its the intensity, everyone knows that give a team intensity and great passion and you can play with anyone. That's why you see every year rivalry upsets (USC-Stanford 07)

Man, since Saban took over, Bama has been the program to beat. I like Bama because they have so much in common with OU. This game was a good game, but man, could you imagine if both teams squared off in this decade? How awsome would that be? Looking forward to the 2012 season. ROLL TIDE AND BOOMER SOONER!!!

As much as I would love that, I highly doubt it. Most likely thing you'll see is Bama vs OU in the post season or at a Neutral site. Plus Bama already has scheduled Michigan this year, V-tech next and then WV the year after and then its a home to home series with Michigan State. Sucks, I miss match-ups like this.

@greymoose1000 that was back when Alabama was one of the worst football teams in the country, now we have Saban and were good.

I remember that game. Alabama was horrible those years. I remember Bama had a touchdown called back. The wr. stepped out of bounds. So many smaller school players on the team. Bama's problem was they weren't recruiting well.a lot of athletes that was good in big schools were getting passed over.

Well soon the best of the SEC will match punch for punch with the best of the Big12 in as bowl game at the end of the year. Looks like the football gods heard our prayers! I so can't wait!

One of my good friends got married on this day, his wife still holds it against me that I skipped most of their reception to stay in my hotel room watching the OU-Bama game. I still can't believe how bad the wheels came off at the end of the Sooners 2003 season, I remember reading in Sports Ilustrated that we only trailed for something like 3 minutes and 30 seconds all year out of 600 minutes of football.

@gasperoutdoors yea LSU won the title game but i dont think they exactly 'handled OU easily." The final score was 21 to 14 if i remember correctly with the game coming down to the very last seconds of the 4th quarter.

@stage51manager bama and ou are crimson. though i would say they are a little different in shades. miss st is maroon and is really not red. south carolina is a little maroon too. arkansas is a bright cardinal almost crimson. i would say nebraska is scarlet but im not sure about them

Please...this talk about "We got Saban now, we're good..." That's as stupid as Auburn fans saying every time Bama beats them from now on, "Well we don't have Cam now..." Bama had their shot at OU, twice, and came up short. Hopefully we'll see another home-and-home in the near future, because these two great traditional teams gave us quite a show...twice.

just an observation, there is no SEC logo on the field or on Bama's uniforms. isn't that something I guess the mighty SEC did not exist in 2003!!!!!

Help me out fans...what kind of "red" colors are Oklahoma and Alabama, it looks the same to me. What about Nebraska, Arkansas, Miss State, South Carolina those "red" colors looks all the same to me??

@greymoose1000 oregon= beat by lsu, usc=beat by ASU, Stanford=beat by oregon, okie state=beat by a 6-7 team. All those teams had high scoring games because they dont play Defense, that's why they didn't let osu play lsu, the sec has defense and offense. RTR!!!!!!
