Another awesome video. Questions: What do you do with your boat(s) when the weather gets bad? You can't keep those at your dock, can you? You must be storing the bay boat somewhere else anyway, right? Finally, a suggestion: Could you do a video on bait -- I know you've touched on it a few times, but I'd like an episode on different baits, different methods of catching bait, types of nets, throwing the net, etc - kind of a "bait 101" video. Thanks again for the great content.
This is what I’m talking about Clay…. Your balance between all categories is phenomenal! Love all the info you provide in each different video. Keeps it refreshing, fun, and educational… well done Sir well done!
You knocked it out of the park with this one Clay! There are so many valid and critical points you make well that will serve new and even tenured old salts like me well.... I recommend folks save this video as a reference to refer to. My family and I are absolutely hooked on your ( you and Stephanie’s) channel and this outstanding video shows why... you are way more than an amazingly entertaining channel.... you share very solid boating and fishing information. I grew up in Miami and am retired on the beach in Oregon and yes.... I am addicted to boats. I always need a deep V hull with twin engines to run out for albacore in often stout seas... hence your logic! Stellar segment... thanks Clay! 👍
Outboard motors are very Relyable these days. One engine has worked fine for me for 20+ years. The simplicity is great! I don’t venture out in seas more then two feet and I’m not running to The Bahamas etc. I run a 24’ Aquasport to and past the reef to 800’ of water all the time. Watch the weather and have all safety gear ready to go first. Maintence is the key and running that motor regularly is another huge factor. Motors that sit have problems and it doesn’t matter how many are on the back of any given boat it’s all relative. utilizing marine fuel is also critical as regular gas collects water causes expansion and causes issue all along the way no matter how many motors one may have. Great Video as always!
Love your channel. Excellent content and advice with exceptional production. Your enthusiasm and attention to detail is apparent in every video. The Keys are breathtaking! You and your wife are the perfect ambassadors. 😍🏝
For a long time I thought single 300HP was enough for my 30 ft CC until I rode on my friends 30ft boat that had two 300 HP Yamaha motors and I was changed forever! I have never regretted it since.
Was out last week out of P'cola (10 miles out in 2-4 ftrs and my buddy sucked 100yds of braid in the prop. Got the line out, shut that motor down (proactive in case the seal was compromised)and preceeded to fish and limp home on 1 motor. 2 motors are definitely nice to have.
Love your videos. Am a subscriber. Always helpful. As a boater myself one comment on porpoising. Yes more weight in back vs front can cause it. Also the combination of speed and engine trim can cause this.
Here in marathon as this videos exists. I have a wife and family. 20 ft robalo r200 but we have had our tail kicked this week as far as fishing or sand bar because the wind has been blowing out of the south. Love your channel wish I could learn more so next year we will be prepared
Clay you should do a video on what gps/fish finder you recommend. I want to purchase one for my 18 foot boat and there are so many brands out there that I’m not sure which one to buy.
I appreciate your videos and after watching I recently purchased a 2021 Pathfinder 2500 and love it.. the 2300 HPS was awesome boat but didn’t fit my family’s need. Recently visited the keys for the first time and stayed in Marathon and loved it..We are going to bring our boat from Louisiana on next visit and was wondering what large sandbar is that in the video? We rented pontoon last visit and found one on the East side of Marathon but wasn’t that large. Thanks for your videos!
You hit on it right away. If you do regular maintenance on your engine, I would bet the single greatest cause of breakdowns is fuel contamination/clogged filters. If your boat (most) only has one fuel tank, two engines isn't going to make much diiference. No surprise that if you think the hybrid bay boats (something I'm taking a hard look at for my first FL boat) are the answer to most boating purposes, then your single engine solution also makes sense. Up in the northern lakes single engines are the rule, but out idea of going offshore is a lot different unless your on the great lakes. Thanks for the videos.
Love the content, was wondering if you could give a few choices of where to stay in Largo with a slip (18ft bay boat). (Affordable hotel / efficiency). We usually stay in Marathon and blow a ton of money for the week / thanks for any advice ….Joe 🤙🏼
Hey Clay, can the outboard stay on the boat when exchanging oil and filter. One more , is you store a boat, will the storage company provide oil and filter maintenance?
Love my twin 115 Yamaha's...makes docking easier and when going offshore a good insurance policy even though I have boat U.S. towing policy. That said if you have a fuel issue probably both engines will go down hence the towing policy which is cheap if you need it but so far haven't needed it. Twins make going to Bahamas less stressful!
I think you can also add in that once you get to a certain size boat you NEED multiple engines for performance wise and i think that threshold is 25ft anything bigger needs atleast 2 and then of course 35 and up u get into triples and quads
Great Info I subscribed. I'm still undecided on my particular situation. I live in Eastern Maryland and I will be fishing the Chesapeake and also offshore Ocean City. The boat I'm looking at for my family is a 23 steiger craft pilot House. I'm looking at either a single 300 or twin 150 Suzuki and also looking at possibly the lighter weight Suzuki 140s? If you would choose twin for this situation what would your choice be between twin 140s and twin 150 Suzuki's? Thank you for any advice you have for me
Clay love your Channel. With that said, I have a 2008 20’ cc glass master triton powered with a 2004 Honda 4 stroke 200, with no trim tabs, I’m planning on adding electric trim tabs to improve performance and so I can plain faster. Now my question is that eventually I know that I want to repower her but I’m not sure if to go with two150 Suzuki’s or one 300 Suzuki. Would like to get more horsepower for increased Speed. My 200 Honda has been GPS at 45 mph. Torn between what would be best for performance on this boat. What would you suggest?
After flying over 40 years in the military and commercial sectors, I can easily answer this question: the more, the better! Fortunately, I only flew single engine aircraft for a couple years, but I ALWAYS felt safer when flying aircraft that had at least 2 engines. Same goes for boats: the more, the better. I'd rather buy a used, well-maintained twin-engine boat I could afford, than a brand new boat with only one engine. Yes, bad gas is always a consideration, but that's a low percentage potential problem. And now being a bit older, I think the multiple engine boat is even more of a no-brainer. Combine that with MUCH easier docking and we've got a winner. Thanks for another amazing, informative video. (P.S. How do you not have over at least 100K, if not, 500K subscribers?)
I didn't put much thought into this until I got a twin engine boat, but a lot of twin engine boats can't plane on one engine because they just lost half of their horsepower, so they will get you home, but it is freaking slow. If a triple engine boat loses an engine, then it's only lost 1/3 of its power, so it will still get on plane and get you home a lot quicker.
Any tips on if you lose a motor to help counteract that yaw effect? I lost a motor once and i had to crank the wheel so hard to the left to keep boat semi straight i thought i was going to break it
The boat I want (for fishing _or_ fun) would need twins. At the small end, a TwinVee 240CC or 240DC with 150's, at the larger end (major dream time) a HammerCat 45 with a pair of the new 600's on the stern.
I suppose it depend where you live..... South Africa law, you have to have minimum 2 motors fitted going on sea with deep sea fishing boats ( of course usually launch of the beach)
Some countries have very specific limitations of how far you may go offshore with a single motor, and for good reason. Personally, I wouldn't dream of going more than a few miles offshore on a single installation.
Bro what to do you for a living lol. I just found your channel and you live the perfect life. You're an inspiration to keep grinding and buying more crypto lol
If your going to spend that many buckets of money your better off going with a super ponga with twin surface drives 😀 Also porpasing has to to do with hull speed Basicly you have to much power. The fix get a longer boat😃
I’m aware Diesel is a little bit more then gas, but anything diesel with outlast anything gas. No reason why a boat “ bust out another thousand” are so expensive.
