Starting a new series (already have episode 2 recorded as well!) that lets me play, practice, AND make content for you guys. If you have any questions for a Q&A for the breaks between matches, please ask away in the comments and I'll respond to them in future episodes. Hope you guys enjoy!
Credit to my buddy jrsteelman for the idea 🤙

This is my girlfriend's channel (what a plug!) and we have a few let's plays together, but she mostly does her own thing (and in my totally unbiased opinion, I think she's awesome at it). Would love to get her an audience as she's just started out, and your support would be hugely appreciated!

Here are my ranks if you're curious.

Camera Settings (Modified Scrub Killa Settings):
FOV: 98
Height: 100
Angle: -5
Distance: 280
Stiffness: 0.40

Why the change in camera settings? I just wanted a direct reference to a pro player when I watched replays.
Controller Settings:
Air Roll Left: L1
Air Roll Right: R1

First video I've seen of yours. You have perhaps the best in-game breakdown commentary while actually playing that I've heard. I love how you can explain not only what you're doing, but the actually strategy and concepts behind it all while doing your thing. You have gained a sub from me!

i really dig how much you you can calmly explain some of your thought processes while you're playing. frankly, you do it much better than a lot of other youtubers i've watched.
@Carathai

This is so useful for me! I'm really interested in getting better at 1s but a lot of the time I'm not really sure where I should be improving outside of the obvious things like getting rid of whiffs and working on mechanics such as delayed flicks etc. Being able to hear your thought process is that extra step of information that you don't get when watching high level 1s. I really hope this sort of content continues even after the "'til I lose" series is over.

Kevpert, you used to teach us that the camera settings that you are using right now was a shitty thing, because you can't see your opponent when you dribble. Can you tell me why are you using it now? Or maybe you uploaded a video explaining it, i didn't watch it yet.... thank you!

I always thought my mechanics were the issue in ones but its definitely my mindset. Watching you play i realised i would be the easiest person to read. I could do pretty much everything you did in these videos mechanically, so if I just slow down a bit and think I feel like I would easily get champ in 1s. I tilt super easily in 1s haha. Thanks for the vid!

@Kevpert 7 лет назад
Could you explain what you mean by placeholders? Sounds like a cool idea!
@gauthzu5359
@gauthzu5359 7 лет назад
I don't know if i'm using the right term sorry :D Like a black screen saying "this is a placeholder, there is no more content to see" for maybe 10-15 minutes at the end of the video. So if I'm at 30 minutes and the video is 50 minute long, I don't know if it's gonna be the last game or not! Adds tension, especially if you're down a couple goals =)

i agree with this. years ago when people like huskystarcraft or HDstarcraft would show b03's or b05's they'd put placeholders at the end so that if someone was up 2-0 or something and there's a lot of time left the viewer wouldn't know that the guy won 3-0 or something along those lines.
@gauthzu5359

@LostSkull1
@LostSkull1 7 лет назад
Joe Schmoe when you shadow someone, on defense, and you turn towards the enemy player(who is on offense) hold boost. fully commit to the challenge. if you dont, they will have time to flick it or juke you. so when challenging either GO FOR IT. or fake a challenge to try to bait out a flick or juke of some sort.
@LostSkull1
@LostSkull1 7 лет назад
Joe Schmoe don't boost half way to the ball and drive nonchalantly towards it. gives the opponent way too much time to get around you

Nice, cerebral play and a really helpful window into your decision-making. Great work! Unrelated request: AFAIK a comprehensive kickoff tutorial video has never been made, and I would REALLY like to see your take on it with your usual attention to detail. I'm a Rising Star, and my kickoffs are still essentially random (i.e. I have very little control over them and don't know how to improve the outcomes). I have no idea how to do fast kickoffs from any position except the center-offset one, and I'm not sure I'm even doing those right in the few instances when I don't completely bean them. Looking at pro matches, the kickoffs don't always even look like the archetypal diagonal "fast kickoffs" and yet they often end up very neutral. It's like there's this whole world that's severly underexplained. Somebody needs to do it, and you might just be the best man for the job with your combination of skill and ability to both teach and craft training drills.
@KillerKabel
@KillerKabel 7 лет назад
jklaiho Johnny_Boi has a tutorial on kickoffs but I think his main point there is just to get perfectly between the ball and your own goal. Would also enjoy a full kevpert tutorial.
@Kevpert
@Kevpert 7 лет назад
jklaiho I like it. To me the only reason why no one (except Johnny) has tackled it is because the scope of the tutorial can get way out of control. Squishy was talking about showing a counter for every single popular kickoff, and there's so many variations that a tutorial isn't feasible. Johnny on the other hand didn't even go into technique, he only went into some key principles of kickoffs. So the scope of my tutorial will be small, I'll cover some solid techniques and some principles, but little in the way of the nuances you'll pick up through playing experience. I'll start writing something up and see if I can get something going.
@KillerKabel

so ball cam all the time isnt good? (serious question)
@jhzerhere2573
@jhzerhere2573 7 лет назад
Jeffrey Infante no, when you are dribbling it's better to have it off because you have more control when the ball is on the the top of your car, also it allows you to get more powerful shots, hence why pros take ball game off when they shoot. Ball cam is useful to see where the ball is on the pitch but certain situations require you to take it off. :)
@luk17032000
@luk17032000 7 лет назад
Yes. When dribbling (air, or ground) turning ball cam off is preferre by most, to get the touches you want. Also when the ball is up very high, its sometimes useful to turn it off, so you dont confuse yourself :)
@luk17032000
@luk17032000 7 лет назад
So by saying "no" you actually mean "yes". -> "yes", it isn't good to have ball cam on all the time :P
@ZekeF
@ZekeF 7 лет назад
Also, the more you practice finding when you like it on off the more comfortable you'll feel. I find I turn it off for a lot of hits to get either a better angle or better view of where the ball is going

think2x Good question! Yeah I tried our scrub settings since I started to watch him play, and I began to like the lack of distortion around the edges (FOV). Definitely saw an aerial improvement once I went to a flatter angle, so I stuck with it. Yes, dribbles have a lot of guesswork now, but outside of 1s I don't really on it that much.

Right on man, Thx 4 the response, I know it's hard with all these comments. FWIW really enjoy your content. I'm lowly rising star but I saw a pretty huge improvement in multiple aspects of my game (recovery, confidence, etc) after using some of your "aerial car control" practice techiques. My life (old) doesn't afford much time to dedicate to the game unfortunately, but even just a few minutes here and there in free play has made a difference. Thanks again

I'm happy to see some more 1's content. Is there any reason you pick the Twin Mill over Batmobile when the nose model doesn't match the hitbox at all?

saya Originally I just liked the Twin Mill more because the visual model seemed taller. Still feels nice for Air Roll shots, and the nose isn't really an issue for me.

hey kev, love your vids! was thinking it would be cool if you could do a replay analysis sort of thing like gibbs does? would be rlly cool to see, as you have some cool insights into the game!

Rishi Mantha he does. He has like 12 1v1 replay analysis and he's starting to do 2v2 and 3s

Rishi Mantha Ah, the paid ones via patreon? I thought long and hard about it, but I came to realize that I simply don't have the time to put in professional hours AND make content where I personally don't get learning out of. This video is a perfect example of putting in high quality time and still learning, so this is the kind of content I'll be transitioning to. If I do quit my day job, then that kind of content will come for sure, since I can still play professionally and have enough time over for various types of content creation like Gibbs.

Hey Kevpert, love the vids, are play styles are alike, and I too am good at ones, but could you do a video of you playing doubles and describe what your doing as you're doing it? Like in this video?
@Kevpert

Absolutely, I'm gonna give it a try and see if I can provide some good commentary.
