Finally SOMEONE slowing this down a bit .... as Andres Segovia said "you rush past many beautiful things in a great hurry". Slowing this down a bit brings out some wonderful things that just are not there when played fast.

Interesting observation about 3/8 and not 6/8, what is the reason to choose for the slow version.

Was actually thinking a couple of right words to describe the slower tempo. I think "more arieggiato", "more respirato" should be describing it( or as I call it "breezy bonheur".)

How is your clavichord tuned? In my opinion you may want to play it *slightly* faster the more of an unequal temperament that is used due to the restless nature of the C# major harmonies with wide thirds.

Werckmeister 1707, he called that Wohltempererierte Stimmung, which is undoubtebtly the temperament for the whole 18th c. when musicians wanted to play in 24 keys, all sources after that repeat that temperament. I'll come back to temperament soon in one video and in next Bach project extensively.

Thank you. I guess it is much harder to hear since I'm not used to listening to clavichords. On pianos in temperaments like that the beating is much more noticeable on C# major.

You put BWV 847 in the title, 849 in the description when it's neither, it's 848.

i don't believe this sort of microanalysis is justified in Bach. At this tempo you get stuck on this harmonic progression for an eternity for the first 20 sec for example. Looking at the rhythm is oten misleading in Bach. This is a man who composed dance movements in the least dance-like rhythm. If we look at bwv 891 fugue, just looking at the sheet makes one take a moderate tempo but it makes no sense contrapuntally, it has to be somewhere near the speed Gould takes (who often has ridiculous tempo but has many ingenious ones as well)

Then why would CPE Bach and others say that the notation give the proper movement to a piece? With Wim Winter's interpretation you really feel the 3/8 pulse and the dance-like feeling and it gives room to do some 'inégalité'.
