You always pick such beautiful places to visit. Thank you for showing me a country that in all honesty I probably will never have the opportunity to visit. Norway is stunning.

When it comes to pirices and economy you of course need to tak into concideration that salaries are also higher in Norway than many other countries. Although many Norwegians find Norway expensive, compared to many other countries we spend less percent of our salary on groceries than many other countries.

How to fall in love with Norway? Go to Norway….

Norway is an expensive country, that is true. The reason is that the country has some of the world's highest living standards in general. The United Nations collects data on life quality and other factors to create its so-called Human Development Report ranking all countries in the world, showing where people are healthiest and wealthiest. The 2022 report placed Norway as number one for the 13th time in a row. So expensive is a relative term. Example: Certainly cheaper in Albania but what good does it do to the Albanians? Another example: Switzerland is about as expensive as Norway and that country ranks second after Norway in standard of living.

Somehow you manage to choose all my favourite places and Norway is definitely one of them! We've crossed the country all the way from east to west and south to the very most northern point, the nordkapp. We've never focused on the cities (though we did visit some) because we traveled in our camper van together with Aranka and Anyó, our two Kuvasz dogs. It's a country full of magical nature and it's a real joy you can place your camper or tent anywhere in the magnificent countryside, make long hikes during the day and have a barbecue over a fire in the evening ... Also, compliments on your Norwegian pronunciation! 👍

Norway used to be an inexpensive (not exactly poor) country until around 1970 when the oil industry got started. Drilling for oil from platforms in the North Sea/Atlantic require lots of skilled people and large investments which drove salaries up in the whole country. It also meant huge increase in income (taxes) for Norway as a country, so the oil started the uplift, but there are several smaller contributors (hydro power, salmon farming etc). For someone living in Norway to have a standard of living comparable to someone in Germany, France and other central European countries they need more expensive houses (and clothes) because of much harsher climate, more expensive roads and railway lines because of the mountains, rivers and (again) climate. Norway also has a good health care system, pretty good education and (necessarily) high taxes. It all adds up and for people with basic jobs to earn a decent living mean that are no inexpensive production of anything in Norway everything gets expensive - also for Norwegians. Btw, the beer prices you found - you could have done much worse!

Thanks for the detailed comment! It never occurred to me but it makes so much sense that a lot of the infrastructure must be more regularly maintained, more challenging to make due to the geography and climate. And it's all connected, bringing up the cost for everything basically. I now have a more clear perspective, thanks 😊

Fun fact: It was actually Norway that introduced salmon to Japan and sushi. Before Norway did a major marekting campaign in Japan in the 90´ties slamon was considered not suitable for sushi. :)

A very good video ❤ But as a Norwegian I must say I am fed up with the talk about weather and especially bad weather. Most tourists don’t get that Norway is situated far North. It’s kind of stated so in the name of the country Nor way. Few know that Oslo ( being situated far south in the country) actually has a latitude, 59, between Kodiak and Anchorage in Alaska. So if you’re going to Tromsø you are pretty far north

My family and I LOVE your show! We recently moved to Budapest and have larned SO much about the city and surrounding areas from it. Random question: I see that you have the Peak Design Everyday backpack (even in the rain when you fimled this episode); I've been considering buying it, but am l curious what you think about it after having it for some time. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! 😊 The Peak Design Backpack is one of my favorite backpacks as I love how I can setup the interiors to have better access to items. I am not a professional photographer, but I can still utilise this feature if I just travel or go to work. There are a few things I may also note after all these years : this is a 20l pack, and because if the setup and sturdiness there is less flexibility in terms of how much you can pack in. So 20l space here may not be equal to 20l in other packs which are a bit more flexible. But I still love this, have it for 6 years now, and only 1 zip gave up so far. If this one needs to be retired, I will think about getting the same, but maybe in 30l edition. (I don't have PD sponsorship, but open for it 😅)

Bryggeloftet is expensive, but excellent and you pay for the surroundings. Not for everyone to eat in a building from ca 1400s

As an Norwegian commenting on our economy and with the current inflation we are experiencing, prices has really skyrocketed the last year and it is getting harder and harder to buy what you want, I've never been the one to go for things that are on sale / discount but right now I have no choice, I have to be more picky and choosy with what I buy.

Thanks for sharing, it certainly helps getting a better perspective that we don't get just as a visitor.
