The first video I made about the Tandy Stitch Maste machine was one of the most polarizing videos i've posted. I always welcome healthy criticism but most of the critical comments on this machine were inaccurate and it's something i've been wanting to clear up for a while. This is not a sponsored post, no agenda here, just want to help anyone out who's looking into this machine.

I felt like you were hand tailoring this review to me!!! I have been torn between this Sailrite and the Juki 1508, and I entertained the Tech Sew 2750 too, but because I am just getting started I thought I'd get something geared down already and is complete and compact. I found your video this morning, just two days after purchasing this Tandy Sailrite machine. haha My son just put my machine together last night and I am getting ready to sew! Your comments were so helpful and clear, and you made me feel a 100% better because of it. Thanks so much, and I hope you continue to share.

Hi Parker. I bought the Stitch Master right after your review of it. I loved that machine!!! However, for the work I was doing, it just wasn’t enough. Then I watched your video of the TechSew 2750 Pro and I watched Little King Goods’ video of the TechSew 5100. I ended up selling my Stitch Master and bought the TechSew 5100 SE. I looooove that machine too! After using the 5100 for a few months, I decided I also needed a smaller machine for smaller items. Sooooo, I bought another Stitch Master from Sail Rite (Tandy was out of them). Now I have the best of both worlds. I love and use both machines!! Thank you for your great, informative videos!!

Hello! just found your channel 2 weeks ago and just purchased this machine a month ago. So far I love it! I'm only craft level/ entry level in leather goods, but an experienced seamstress.. I agree with the frustration on the presser foot lift along with the bobbin thread running out too fast lol. other than those 2 cons, I'm very glad I bought it and though the price was worth it.. Thanks for your honest review.

Hey Parker, there will never be an end to people trying to criticise top guys like yourself, rise above them and don't worry about them. The Tandy machine is designed as a portable starter machine. Myself & Mrs J think you are fantastic, your youtube video's are doing so much good for the leather industry, please keep them going!

Man, I am so happy you did this follow up video. I was looking at the sailrite LS1 and LSZ1 trying to make a decision about which one to go with. I sew bags out of reclaimed carpet and canvas etc. with some leather trim. I am also a hobbyist and fairly new at sewing. I had decided I needed the additional $600.00 table from sailrite with the servo motor in order to accomplish the type of SUPER SLOW sewing i need for my items. I also own other home style sewing machines and have limited space to work with so that was also a consideration. When I found the stitchmaster on Sailrite's website it really seemed to offer me everything I wanted for close to $200.00 less and took up less space! I started looking around online for more info and saw your original video. I enjoyed your enthusiasm, but really wanted more focus on the actual working of the machine. TBH some of the comments had me shaking my head. I believe it was your video that mentioned the appeal to beginners and that helped me a lot. Anyway... I bought mine from an actual Tandy location near Atlanta and skipped the shipping cost. This machine has been so perfect for me. I like it so much I jumped at the chance to watch this follow up. This is a great machine for a hobbyist and I think you make that clear. Thank you!

Great video! As usual. You have been so informative and not once have I ever thought you said something because you were getting paid. I was looking at purchasing this machine until I took a leap (because of your inspiration) and talked to a knife shop owner about making sheaths. Had to have something a little bigger. Ended up with the Cobra Class 4 now I’m doing 20-40 sheaths a month.

Great video! As a leather worker looking for a machine your videos and Ryan's at LKG have been a real help. Living I Sweden there isn't all that much to choose from. I have an old Adler flatbed that's going to be upgraded with at speedreducer, Servomotor and some smooth feets and dogs but the problem comes to finding something for bags. If I don't want to pay 6000 USD for a Juki it's the Cowboys or a Cobra 4. And I think the Cobra will be the winner due to the fact that they seems to have a better customer service here in the EU.

I love your vids, when I saw the original video I made this my dream machine, I never read the comments, but I'm glad you made this video because I realize for this amount of money I could maybe get something with the knee operated presser foot lift, and I don't mind tinkering with things so changing the motor or adding a speed reducer sounds fine to me, I'd still like a sailrite machine but it might fill a different role

I got this machine because of your last video, i do small production batches 10-50 small pouches/ bags at a time. Sailrite has incredible sewing machines and some of the best service out there bar none. Yes you can buy used....not necessarily for less. Most used industrial machines are dirty and just wore out and as you covered....still are clutch driven. And btw for those who have no clue equates to a very difficult to finesse 1750 to 3000 rpm speed demon. And still....because of the name on them, like Jiki, are still pulling a premium. Especially if you find a walking or triple feed. Big crazy bucks. What you get with the Tandy/Sailrite, is a quality product, pre set-up at the factory by professionals that do nothing but set-up Sailrite sewing machines and back them with unmatched service and videos out the wazoo. And no.... I don’t get paid by them either. They are just that good!!!!
@rohawaha

I do marine canvas , scuba webbing , and some leather , I bought two older " high quality brand name machines " for my work . I became an expert sewing machine mechanic and bought a lot of replacement parts. I now own a Sailright Fabricator and it will sew anything that will fit under the presser foot. One big difference of Sailrights is that when the machines are shipped to the U.S. they go to a separate Sailright facility in the Midwest where Sewing Machine mechanics go completely through the machine and tune it , they check the specs of every part and replace any out of spec parts . These machines are ready out of the box. You should have bought a Fabricator !

I have the machine. Like it for detail work. I fixed a couple problems. One was the height of the table. Put it on 4x4 wood under legs, then put table pvc pipe 4 more inches. This reaisd the table 7.5 inches to fit me. The other issue i had was the hole the needle passes through. It is hard to see exactly where the needle is going to strike. So I ordered another center foot and ground it down to form a u instead of a circle. Now I can see exactly where the needle is going to hit. My main machine is the tech sew 5100, love that machine but when you want detail and thinner thread this is the machine for me.

Great vid I bought my stich Master after watching lots of videos and research, and your channel + Tandy's employees helped me pull the Triger. know I'm ready to move up to a cylinder arm and hearing that your more partial to the Cobra than the Techsew. I'm leaning that way. I'm into doing just about everything leather and have made holsters, knife sheaths, tote bags, guitar straps etc. If f you say that the Techsew lacks the power, what do you recommend $$$ CB4500, or Cobra Class 4?

Good followup video. I bought one of these stitch master machines as my first machine getting into leatherwork. It was a great little machine to start with! Does it do everything that I need it to? No. But am I Happy that I bought it? Yes! Will I be buying another machine that does more for me for more complex machines? Yes, highly likely! People are just armchair idiots and you need to ignore them. Don't sweat it.

Great follow up. I'm currently in the Sailrite decision dilemma myself but a little different. Although I like the portability idea of a LSZ1 for canvas, bags and maybe some windsurfing sail repairs but do I pay 1400 for a machine that seems to be Harbor Freight quality when there is a Local Philly supply house that has the Juki 1541 brand new complete with table, servo motor etc for 1600 and grow into it? Your thoughts?

I see what you mean, but sailrite is definitely not a harbor freight type brand. It’s really good quality. But if you’ve found a 1541 I would recommend going with that. It’s a little bigger, you’ll have the leg lift, only thing Is you’ll probably need to put a speed reducer on yourself. It’s not too hard but it is extra work

This is the video you should have done to start with. I was one of those that were critical of your other video. Most people on your channel have no idea the difference between a $100 chinese patcher and the Juki 441 and they easily get misled into wasting their hard earned money on the wrong machine for what they want to use it for. Those of us who have been in this for awhile just hate seeing that...and there is a LOT of that going on on here. I suggest anyone looking into a leather sewing machine to go to the leatherworker.net forum and start researching. The guys on that site have been working with leather machines longer than most youtubers have even been alive.

what exactly did I say to lead people astray? How could i have made this video in the beginning having not used it yet? They sent me the machine to review it, and the first video was my initial impression, that's it.

Ok so I bought an LSZ-1 a while back and I've been eyeballing this Tandy machine for a while but other than the table and the servo motor how different are the two machines? I'm debating about buying the Tandy machine for around $1300 or buying the table and servo motor for the LSZ-1? I'm mostly doing wallets and purses and I have every intention of buying a cobra down the line but other than the table how different are the two machines?

I recommend getting the work horse table and motor. It works for me. I own the LSZ-1 and I added the table and motor. It will go so slow, or zip through. I have not had any issue other than breaking a needle die to the power, while using zig zag on heavy leather. I sew totes and wallets, axe covers, sheathes, and long straps. I also sew rip stop nylon, canvas, cordura, etc.

I'm glad you get help from customer service 😂 I get nothing but crickets. I bought this from Tandy last year after watching your vid and they stopped selling them 2 months later. My question is, do they have a left presser foot that isn't a zippered/saw bottom and where can I find one? Thank you.

In other words when you speak to people on a video you got to act like you’re talking to everybody like a idiot I understand that sometimes things should be crystal clear and you cant have a good time while you’re doing your thing because people have to criticize I personally love your videos and you explain everything and most of the time you leave in mistakes because everybody makes mistakes and if you’re working you get to learn to roll with it

It is kind of lame that you are having to explain the obvious to people. I love you channel I think it is very genuine. There will always be people who talk crap. They can always watch something else if they don't like your content. Keep up the good work.

Looks like Sailrite is releasing this exact same machine in green, priced the exact same, as their "Sailrite Leatherwork" sewing machine this month (feb 2021). Not sure how this is gonna affect the tandy partnership. Regardless love the review!

Tandy decided to go with Cobra, and separated with Sailrite. I have an LSZ-1 and love it. We sew everything from ultralight fabrics to leather for holsters and bags. I added the workhorse table and motor and it will drive through 3/8" of leather with no issues. The Cobra machines are Post type and will work with much thicker threads and are great for shows and inside bags. As for old machines, I owned a model 29 and it was 100yrs old, worked ok. I sold it, and kind of regret it but only because it was such an amazing antique. We still hand sew a lot of our bags and wallets and such.

I bought this machine from Tandy because I saw the first video you posted, and I love your videos, I received the machine and it was missing a screw that pivots the motor, I called Tandy to let them know, this is a year later and I'm still waiting for the screw, and what makes it worst they expect me to call around in order to get the screw, yes, they told me to call sailrite, the maker of this machine, I don't know about you, but I will never buy from Tandy again, they literally screwed me, lol

I'm not seeing this machine listed on Tandy's site. Btw, I just saw one of these listed locally used in good condition for $900. Is that a deal?
