As pointed out by Doug Walls... around 10:00, "cylinder deactivation technology" is the technical term to describe the step down from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders... thanks Doug!
Great video. Just purchased a 2015 GMC Sierra 6 days ago with less than 44,000 miles on it. So far all is well. Love this truck. Perfect condition. Also, our dealer here in Palm Beach gives a lifetime warranty on motor trans and drive train. Can't beat that deal.
Thaqks for watching! Curt just bought the new 2018 Denali the last couple days of 2017. (review coming soon!) let us know how it goes! REALLY good deals out there atm.
Nice Truck! I just bought a 2018 SLT Premium Plus Crew 6.6' bed Max Tow 3:42 gears 6.2L. LOVE IT! I agree with your gripes about the back seat, it should be heated. GMC now offers rear AC and heated rear seat on the new generation 2019. I would rather buy a vehicle at the end of a generation rather than the beginning as they hopefully have most of the bugs worked out and you get a few more features.
Exactly my thoughts. Bought my new ‘18 Denali this past July. I could’ve waited 2 more months for the new ones but you never buy the first year production of any vehicle as a rule of thumb. Plus, couldn’t pass on some good deals for the remaining ‘18’s so I had to jump on it lol. I’ll do the same thing when I trade it in later. 😊
i have an 05 SLT with every option and i cant wait to get rid of the pos. its literally falling apart on me but i will be getting this 18 denali in a few months when my bonus comes around. absolutely can not wait
I just bought a 2018 Sierra SLT crew cab that had the heated-ventilated seats, and my iPhone works seamless with the dash info system. I assume GMC will continue to ignore the suggestions for climate controls in the rear passenger area. So far I love the truck.
Good news, we just reviewed the 2019 Denali and it had heated rear seats and a/c vents in the back! check out our review that we just posted! From what I gathered from the dealer, the 2017 only worked with Android only. the 2018 would also charge the Apple. We have both models, tested this and found it to be true. Thanks for the comments!
I sold my 2014 Silverado couple of nights ago and waiting for my new 2019 to arrive. I didn't go with 6.2,just because of premium gas required. Here in CA, having 8 cylinder truck, burning premium, is committing to suicide ;)
9:12 wow, surprised to find out that y’all live by me. I’m buying this exact truck for the same reasons y’all have, good to know it works well around here
I have the 18 denali with the 6.2 and absolutely love it. Plenty of power. Last road trip in it I averaged 25.2 mpg. I have also had the instrument cluster go dark twice and do not use apple play. Solution was to shut truck off for a minute and restart it. Waiting on software update from dealer to solve issue.
Thanks for this, good review. I had an ‘08 Sierra (and several other gmc’s and chevy’s) right when the new body style came. I loved the truck, always been a GM man. I’m in the market for a new truck but been looking at ford this time around. This review has me leaning toward sticking with a Sierra beautiful truck.
Coming from a GM loyalist, you did over sell the HWY mileage, you said 28 mpg for certain stretch of road for a few miles, real hwy mileage on a good day for a period of time would be 22mpg.Maybe a touch better likely a bit less.
Wooahhh... that was an actual demonstration of mixed traffic, 20ish mile drive to my office at the front end of rush hour traffic at the speed limit. I could repeat that performance every day. Realistically, on a hwy, I get 24-25. I average around 22-23 with everyday driving. If I’m driving a little aggressively... tha estimate goes to crap however.
Hope this helps you guys I had a 2017 GMC Canyon, the transmission was “hunting” as well... The result, gm has the wrong oil in these transmissions those were the words of the service department... They changed the oil and it was back to its usual self it took about a week for the transmission to relearn its self... after that no problems.... I hated the truck after 4 months and traded it for 2018 gmc all terrain! No looking back now this is the truck I’m staying with!
We just purchased a 2015 Sierra 1500 Z71 SLT with 50K on it, the Denali is one step up from what we have. Love the truck but your rite, my daughters only complaint every time she has to ride in the back seat is that there are no seat heaters in the rear. And the phone app is great as well, love being able to start the truck near the end of dinner and come out to it nice and warm or cold. The fact that you can set it up so the seat and steering wheel heaters will come on when it's cold or even the seat coolers when it's hot out is really nice.
We are real people with real budgets unfortunately... I would like to get the 6.2 on the next round. As I said before tho, the 5.3 pulls my collector cars and trailers just fine and it beats the Hell outta the Nissan Pathfinder I had b4 as a company truck. Thanks for watching and comment , Justin!
@George Best , could you please explain a bit further : do you trying to say if the audio -device is an android it works perfectly fine ? ? With the Apple App , coz I had issue has described on the video with a pioneer device , I am looking to buy an android 12,” to set in one of my car .., not sure if sound quality wd be as great ... as with pioneer
I had a 2020 2500 silverado 6.6 gas and now 5.3l 2021 GMC SIERRA and it amazing how little difference there is on gas mileage....maybe 2 mpg overall.....
These are by far the easiest vehicles on earth to park. I have way more issues parking my Toyota Yaris than the Chevy. Seriously, if you can't park this, STOP DRIVING, because you suck!
A company truck. A fiscally responsible truck decision. I wrote a check for 2 on the same day and I had no corporate use for the 6.2, which I of course would have taken , as a car guy.... I was just taking care of the entity that just bought me a Denali to drive the crap outta. Is that fair?
lol... Im the VP.. not the President... yet... hell, my last company truck was a Nissan Pathfinder so Im smiling anyway. Curt did exactly as you recommended and bought the 2018 6.2. I put around 35K a year on this truck and we usually trade around 100K so......... 6.2 it is for the next round. Got to admit tho, except for a little acceleration, this truck has done everything I have asked of it, including pulling my 18ft enclosed trailer and some of my show cars for over 3K miles in the past year. but.. you are right. check out our review of Curts 2018 6.2, it is a better truck. Thanks for watching AND commenting!
5.3 will do it fine the 6.2 does it more fun.Your trade is rock n roll across the land,in 2007 and up you had be be glad to have a company car let alone Pathfinder. So keep getting stuff to go vertical and enjoy these new glory years.cheers!
I fell In love with this truck and I don’t even own one. There’s this dealership that’s selling one for 32k it’s a 2015 Denali 6.2L but it has 103,369 miles on it already I’m not sure if it’s a good idea buying a truck that already had 100k miles on it and it’s only 4 years old. But then again it’s a beautiful truck.
Fair enough.. esthetically the this now almost 2-1/2 year old truck with over 70k miles still looks like new. Issues.. had to replace the seat motor that vibrates with the proximity system, had the transmission remapped for a stuttering issue, had a brake vacuum pump replaced and some outdoor temp sensor that affected the climate control. I have spent about $1500 out of pocket. Not really too bad considering the mileage. I think you should be able to find a lower mileage example for that price. Good Luck!
Congrats.... we just had the 2019 Denali Ultimate for the weekend to shoot a review... look for it soon. While we were at the dealer the sales manager told us there was going to be some huge sales on the 2018. Btw i hit 65K miles in mine over 2 years... thumbs up!
@@Fulloctanegarage . Yes my dealer offering 15104 off . Love their math logistics. Luck to find 1 still available. Think it was due to it being a 5.3 over 6.2.
The new Ram is so appealing due to the rave reviews it’s interior is getting. It has one of the most important features any vehicle can have. A well positioned mile wide armrest. My problem is that it’s exterior styling is so mild and boring. The Denali interiors haven’t lived up to the reputation they have, yet whether we are talking the 18 and older trucks or even the new 19’s, the truck is gorgeous. Also, like others have said, the wife is stunning. Blessed life man.
My wife and I are about to have our first baby in 5-6 weeks. I’ve been wanting a truck like this but would it keep the baby comfortable back there? Heat/cooling etc
yes... its not that there is no air at all, it just takes a bit for it to get to temperature because it is being handled from the front. I just use the remote start to get the process started earlier.
Yea, I often wondered how our parents and grandparents ever raised us without heated or cooled seats! Stop being so prissy, trust me, your child will know more about raising itself then you will ever, newborns don’t sweat hence they stay warmer than you can when it’s cold, when it’s warm take their cloths off
IDK why, but you remind me of Dan Akroyd lol. Oh yeah, I should or should probably mention I'm about 23K miles into my GMC 1500 and still enjoying the heck out of it. Still get "giddy" when it's time to drive and the "newness" still hasn't worn off.
thank you for your review sir. I have a 2018 GMC Sierra SLT thats identical in color to yours. May I ask what made you choose the undercover classic over the elite or other models?
Hey Robert, Thanks for watching! Sure. It is a very strong, reinforced top that we stand on for an elevated video platform. The top is a single piece that wraps over the top lip of the bed so water penetration doesnt happen. it locks which is great because we store stuff for the car trailers in it.The truck can be driven at highway speeds with the top up. It does limit large square objects that extend to the cab end, but it is removable. ( 1 person can do it, but it is a LOT easier with two. We are about to post the installation video in a couple of days. We have already shot it, just got to finish the editing. This is the 3rd Denali pick up that Full Octane has had with this top. Check out our accessory video, it goes into a little more detail. let us know what you end up with!
You telling me you spend that kind of money you can get heated seats in the back you can't get air ducts for the back what they call that truck the denali the top of the line that sounds like a rip off GMC get it together
Full Octane Garage Um, dude you have a crew cab!!! who needs air vents when you have air. From outside? I have been on 8+ hour non stop road trips on a heat wave with no AC. In an Extended cab! You've got an anamazing truck. Most people only dream of trucks like these.
I really enjoy my 2017 Sierra Denali 1500 with the 6.2. The huge power and yet excellent economy is just two things you would not think would go together. It is quiet like a sedan inside and rides smooth. My only major concern at this point is the 8 speed transmission as it seems like it is a weak spot in the drivetrain. It occaisionally cannot find the gear it wants to be in. I am in touch with the dealer to try to remedy. That being said it is still a superb truck to drive.
I noticed your outside temperature was 42 F but you had your A/C on ? Reason for that? You don't buy a truck for good gas mileage but all in all it was a good video.
This was a nice video my friend just bought a 2018 Denali. I kinda was asking a few questions why not just buy the GMC Sierra ? It would be the same truck. Well that’s him .
I believe the transmission issues are too common based on reading complaints on online forums. I drove a 16' quad cab Chevrolet 5.3 with the 8 speed transmission for the past year, and it was plagued by the same transmission issues you spoke of in your video. Apart from replacing transmissions and repeatedly flashing the transmission software, there wasn't any "final solution" for the problems. Hard downshifts, slipping, and shuddering were daily issues for my truck. I just rolled the dice last week and traded that truck off on an 18' GMC with the 6.2 and 8 speed transmission. I'm hoping that GM's engineers have worked out some of those issues in the past two years.
Really good info and thanks for watching! This surfaced just as I was making the video. The dealer changed the fluid to address it. I have noticed it again today and will contact them again. I had never heard of this problem until it occurred to me, but now I am hearing it from others. I will keep everyone in the loop as I look into it. I have not heard of it at all with the 6.2. Did you get the 6.5 ft bed with your new truck?Let us know what you think about it.
I got the short bed. Apart from keeping some gear locked in the bed under a hard tonneau cover, I don't use the bed for hauling much. I use my truck to pull a Jeep on a car hauler trailer a few times a year to do some off-roading. My initial impression of the 6.2 is very positive; lots of power. I'm really hoping this 8 speed transmission doesn't have the same issues my 16' had.
My 2017 Sierra Denali 8 speed transmission broke only after 16000 miles. It took the dealership over a month to replace the transmission. Thinking about buying an f150 instead.
thanks for the review, whats the acceleration? like on that 5.3 v8 , any any delays in between gears? im looking at a 2018 premium plus SLT with same engine.
The 5.3 is good, especially with the close ratio 8 speed automatic. If you can, get a 6.2. Nearly same real world mpg as 5.3 but 420hp and 460tq and the beautiful v8 sound it makes when you press the go pedal! Just make sure the truck you get does NOT have 3:08 gears. You want 3:23 or 3:42 with the 8 speed.
Lee Kilgore The 5.3 is a good engine. I’d buy a 6.2 over a 5.3 if both are offered. There is ALOT more 5.3 avail than 6.2 like 95% of dealer stock is the 5.3. Avoid the 3:08 gear ratio at all costs. The gear ratio is on the window sticker. 3;23 and 3;42 are good ratios for power and economy. Check laurabuickgmc for the lowest new prices on trucks. Brand new trucks are 12 - 16k off MSRP. No BS. I flew in, they picked me up from airport and I was driving my new truck home within a few hours. I still saved thousands vs my local dealer prices and added BS charges.
On my 04 sierra crew cab....i am a big guy and the back seat is no problem for me.even laying down lol. I have been threw hell and back with my truck....i hauled quads dirrbikes scooters a few harleys....i moved several people with it..moved a pre school with it...my truck has done it all and she only has 100860 miles on her i got it used with 56000 on it. Even though my milage is low. Shes done alot and only got stuck in the snow once and was during a blizzard.
I have 2017 Sierra Denali just like this one same color and everything 6.2L fully loaded sunroof etc. 69k miles and runs and drives like new. I love it.
Next time your in your garage connect the truck to your home WiFi and check for updates or new downloads available It helped my ZR2 car play performance
Great review! I've been a ford, dodge fan for ever...I've worked for my company for 26 years and have always had ford 2500 diesels and loved them, every 150k I get to pick out a new model I've kept the ford because of dependably and why not..... Until 2019 out of popular demand "and a little pressure from my coworkers" 😁 I decided on a GMC Sierra HD 2500 Denali Duramax..... Damn what a truck...like you, I've had it for a year and just under 60k miles, I hate to say it but I REALLY enjoy driving it I'm an electrician/hvac tech for a communication company and work on our business, cellular towers and small offices throughout our area and have a inclosed utility box on it I average 15 mpg all the time when I'm pulling a mini-X or skidsteere I average 12mpg! Well... Long story short it's made me decide to give my personal pickup (2012 ram power wagon 1500 4x4) to my younger son he is 23 and responsible!! and get a damn 2020 gmc sierra 1500 denali 4x4 with the gas 😁 I was laying in bed early this Sunday morning watching videos on the 1500s and yours was the first to pop-up and thank you for being honest I was definitely interested between the difference in the two engine sizes and wonder if it's worth getting the 6.2 vs the 5.3??? I rarely haul anything other than my flatbed utility trailer with sleds, quads, or bunk of osb or 2x6s....whats your opinion vs the two engines?? Thanks sir!
6.2 for the win since we have both... love the passing power. I have had some minor glitches since the video but everything has been solved with software updates
Doesn't Sierra Denali come with the auto park assist package ? I'm not used to parking large vehicles, so if I have a truck, I'm probably going for the canyon since its more suited to my size preferences and I don't need auto park assist to help.
great question... this truck did not and I did not see it on the build page. Honestly, I just bought a pair of Canyons and I have bought a couple of Denalis (I own a construction company... my drive way is not that big...lol) I find the 1500 just as easy to park due to all of the driver assists like the back up camera and the proximity alerts.
"Heavy use" cracked me up. The first gripe was the radio. This isn't a truck, it's a station wagon with less interior space. Most new trucks are grocery getters and useless for people that actually use a truck.
talking more about mileage. I do own a new construction company and I do usually haul crap around on a regular basis such as HVAC equipment, ductwork etc... not a lot of towing tho. fair comment, it is a 1500, not a larger 2500 or bigger... thanks for watching
Well we had a 2015 2500 Diesel and I was very happy to go back to a 1500 with a 6.2. Main reason is the 2500 was too long even in the shortest format and I hated having the DEF fluid, poor fuel mileage and higher cost of maint. Having had the 2018 1500 or 6 months or so I have no interest in going back to a 2500 for the way I use the truck.
LOL it means Heavy Duty. They make both diesel and gas for these models. I personally own a Denali HD and love it, but a friend of mine has a 1500 and it rides like a Caddilac compared to my HD.
Yup ; I have 17’ Silverado crew cab shirt bed 4x4 : You right parking tight- Had to move garage door out 2” in 20 ft garage. Nice ride- 5.3 nice mpg. Miss my 90 ‘ standard cab short bed - Thanks fer the video -
fuckinmetal1982 Availability on the lot, money and really didn’t need it. On hindsite, after seeing Curt’s 6.2, I think I may go that direction next time just for a little more towing capacity. Thanks for watching , Fuckin!.. (lol...ok, I’m laughing a little at the moment)
Forget the convertible. I'll take the truck! Any day. Minor problems, in my book. The Denali is a great truck. I'm in the market to buy a used 2020-2022. Love! It!
I just bought a sold my 18 1500 GMC for 6.7 2020 limited so much nicer conpare to gm trucks and cars. The new 2021 ram limited is my dream truck going trade the ford next year.
For what that truck cost it should have ALL the amenities...GMC needs to stop skimping on extras! Also...the trucks ain't worth what they cost...period!
@@Fulloctanegarage ya all 4 of mine are shot. 45,000 miles. Dealership quoted me a minimum of $4000 plus taxes & wheel alignment. Possibly more depending on time spent. Quote was just the block value time. No impressed for "Proffesional Grade" equipment...
I really like gmc but I tested a F-150 And yet me tell you gmc is behind the time No adaptive until 2020 no rain sounds wipers Need a key lol no passive entry and the list goes on
Bryce Burgeson lol... Well, it was my first company truck and I bought 2 at the same time and I was trying to be corporately fiscally responsible. It really did everything well, including pulling a 18 ft loaded , enclosed car trailer... That being said... Curt bought a 2018 with the 6.2 the next year (got a video on that also..) and.... it was bad ass. My next one will be the 6.2. Thanks for chiming in and hurting my feelings, Bryce. Lol.. seriously.. thanks for watching, Man!
I have had 2 F150 King Ranch and now currently a Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and never have owned a GMC. But looking at this Denali and will be trading my Dodge Ram for the Denali
Hey Paul! This trailer was manufactured by Husky Cargo and is 8x18 with a V nose. It is about 5 years old and still going strong. of course, for motorcyles you could use a much smaller trailer. Thanks for watching!
2019 Ram is the only truck that has everything that everyone wants and needs, period. Ram all the way now and I'm a Ford guy until I studied all of these trucks.
What specifically makes Ram a Good truck? There is no good all around truck in my opinion, for example frame material, or engine/transmission problems. Which will it be? Look all trucks break down, yes all trucks do eventually and they need to be repaired. Some quicker with less cost, others later with more. Infact i see alot of people simply hearing their engines dying before my drums and they don't care. Whenever i see a truck "rolling coal" it usually happens to be a dodge by the way. So if it's reliable it is gonna be ruining everyone elses day and probably the earth. All trucks Have their upsides or downsides in their own regard. I am yet to say my 6.0 big block black block vortec is the best and I know it'll last me the rest of my life if i wanted to with respectable repair costs. For example if my frame rotted out I can buy a new frame for around 3,000.
Yes it is for farming and towing horse trailers (nothing against farmers working hard) But ram looks boring for most of the time and the same model after model( except the last 1500 ‘s) Why every one has to get so personal what they drive it’s a truck.
Devo Dar completely ignorant comment. You do realize not everybody needs or likes what you may need or like...right?? Or are you even dumber than you sound?
6.2 8sp 323 gears is good but only AFTER a good tune, cylinder deactivation DEACTIVATED. Pulled the trigger on a 2018 Denali Ultimate. 22's with the magnaride suspension isn't for me. I'm in the Philadelphia PA area and pot holes and winter can make for challenging road conditions. I'm selling the Denali and going back to an SLT Premium All Terrain 6.2 with Z71 suspension. I would recommend going with the full size standard bed if considering the Denali model and stay away from the 22's, stick to the standard 20' wheels and tires. The 5'8 short bed is just about useless.
Thanks for watching... I went with the 20"s after hearing the same thing about the ride. Curt moved to the 6.2 on his 2018 he just bought. I think the bed length is situational... we drive in town and have to deal with little parking spots so the 5.8 works for us but we have have definitely had "bed envy" issues at times when load the bed with stuff!. Great comments!
