Since I always forget, this was roughly Attempt #30! I wasn't able to get a good run in my first batch of attempts so I took a long break from it but after I figured out the best strategy it took me 6 more attempts to get this run :)
This challenge was basically the reverse of that Wings of Liberty mission where you try to survive as Protoss against infinite Zerg until they overrun you.
That mission was stupid. Specially because we dont gain anything for surviving long. I didn't read the objective, was playing on normal so i played the mission for over an hour
"Ah yes, I remember the time that uThermal was a Terran main, before he switched to Zerg, unretired as pro player and won 3 consecutive world championships in a row" -People in 2027
All the time you think it is impossible. Then uThermal takes it serious, and changed the mind of the entire world. This Zerg wall is legendary and hopefully will find a place in bronze silver or gold games. Turtle Zerg to Grandmaster incomming XD GG WP
Yeah. I am not a massive fan of zerg series but i would love to see walls of spores and viper, queen, lurker brood lord nastiness. There is a famous AoE3 player called Wall. Maybe name the series after him. WALL
According to his channel there are five "insane" challenges left to do. 1 Zerg v 7 Zerg, 1 Zerg v 7 Terran, then the three Protoss challenges. All of these should be extremely entertaining for us but might give uThermal an aneurysm just thinking about them. Still, he has been getting better and better at these challenges since his Terran v Protoss challenge only took him 19 attempts IIRC.
Holy crap, that's incredible. This challenge looked impossible and I'll be honest, it was over 20 minutes into this video that I STILL thought it looked impossible. Your creativity and tenacity shine yet again. Well played!!
Marc truly has cemented himself as one of the greatest SC2 players of all time. The game has been out for almost 13 years with everyone, and i mean everyone, thinking these challenges were impossible...until Mr uThermal came along. LEGENDARY.
Cheater ai didn't exist 13 years ago bubba. But yeah Thermy is fkin goated, I remember watching his pro scene games and hating in him cause he was terran now he's my favorite SC YTer lol
@@stevenhetzel6483 Well.. there have obviously been some changes to the AI over time, but as far as I know the "cheater AIs" in general have always existed, they just didn't always have the same name. I'm pretty sure the hardest difficulty has always gained more resources than you're supposed to per trip.
Damn man, so impressive! I appreciate how much time all the attempts must have taken you in order to give us this one 30-minute video... cheers to you for your work in expanding human horizons!
I'm glad you were able to have fun with the challenge as Zerg. I'll try to record some commentary for my runs and post them too. Still have not been able to get Zerg vs 7 Terran Insane AI completed, I do think that one might be impossible.
I am pretty sure somebody said something before me , but you should make a playlist of these give it to who ever runs blizzard now and demand your achievements be put in the game , be sure that it will help with interest in SC2 for the casual player and everyone also to have something new to do in the game , most likely one guy in blizzard can do this in about 10 minutes to 1 hour easy :) UPVOTE this please , we need uThermal to extend that lance :)
I'm loving this content; thanks for rekindling my interest in SC2. I'm still working through your channel, so maybe you've done a 1v7 human challenge. But if you haven't, I'd love to see you play 1v7 novice/low ranked players. I think that would be really fun. Thanks for making entertaining content with a positive attitude. GL HF GG
Well done! If I don't remember incorrectly, I think Vibe did this on his Twitch stream, but not Zerg against random, only Zerg against Protoss, like uThermal did. Vibe did it on the Rooftop Terrace map, I think, so that might be a map to check out
I played this game as a child and i have never been good at it (including SC2) - i am only stepping forward to mention that i take my hats off to uThermal for this INCREDIBLE PLAY. Excellent.
Have you done a speedrun through Starcraft and Broodwar's campaign? If not, would you consider doing one with live commentary? I'd be fascinated to watch that series.
Incredible! Now me and a friend are going to try and do a 2 vs 6 Hard ai on the same map. One question, though, why didn't any of them attack you until 8:40 (game time)? They were all on "Any Build", so was it just luck that none of them rushed/harassed you, or was was something about your build discouraging them from attacking earlier? I mean, you had virtually nothing to defend until about 6 minutes in, so why weren't the cheaters with their map hacking skillz swarming you with early game units? Could it be because you tech up to Hive very quickly so they read you as a high tech opponent?
This would so work if the enemy had but 1 human player, he would just move arround with air or destory everything in a row rather than weird AI walking arround.
these types of challenges have historically been 'my thing.' i did a lot of ladder for the first 2 or 3 years of sc2 then switched almost entirely to playing against ai since then. main reason being that i was too busy with work/family that i couldn't play as well as i wanted to against other people. i found the perfect alternative was to challenge myself any way i could against ai matchups and it allowed me to play the game stress free with the ability to pause the game most of the time if needed. i didn't realize that certain things were deemed 'impossible' by people in this subgenre of the game. i know in the last 10 years i've beat a LOT of matchups similar to the one in this video. this is almost exactly how i play my zerg vs ai. the only thing i would do differently is utilize viper abducts much more. maybe even cut 3 or so broods to build more vipers. i always feel like 50% of my apm is devoted to abducting voids/disruptors/colossai/sentries lmao. always struggled more against terran ai when playing zerg so gonna have see if you've uploaded that one yet! keep up the great vids marc :)
I think the benefit to leaving the smallest amount of minerals in the last patch to force the enemies to pull their workers isn't 'there are less units' so much as at the cost of 5 minerals you are buying the knowledge to know that the ai is mined out
This is excellent. One suggestion. The AI will avoid the location of a ravager bile attack. Like they’re going to not want to go in a liberator siege zone.
What the fuck how have I been alive since 1994 and playing StarCraft basically since it's release date and only now have I found out that an archon walking into a forcefield cancels it 😮
@@atrtsh well thank you you learn something new every day.. I guess you could say... How Tell them your a dirty cheeser without telling them... Cheese is love cheese is life
Thank you for your amazing content 🎉 congrats! (And if you need to regularly take time off for your mental health, please do! We completely understand)
I imagined locust waves to split up the armies, perhaps to harass neighbors later in the game. Maybe just too slow between attacks to make a difference. Brood lords are just a much more constant attack.
