CLIP DESCRIPTION:
D'Leh (Steven Strait) and his tribe take on a herd of wooly mammoths. The hunt master Tic'Tic (Cliff Curtis) takes the lead in herding them into their trap.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A young outcast from a primitive tribe is forced to defend his people from a brutal onslaught in Independence Day director Roland Emmerich's fast-paced period adventure. Despite the fact that he is low man on the totem pole in his tribe of fearless hunters, a brave young boy (Steven Strait) longs to win the heart of a beautiful princess (Camilla Belle) who is well above his station in life. When an overwhelming horde of powerful invaders forces the hunters into slavery and abducts the princess, the once-aimless boy suddenly finds his destiny taking an unexpected turn. Now, if he has any hope of saving his tribe from certain extinction, this young boy will have to fight for the future to his dying breath.

10,000 BC is in my opinion one of those movies that deserves better than what it was given. I honestly think of this as a feature length big budget version of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal. The landscapes are beautiful, the CGI on the prehistoric megafauna still looks good after all these years, and the mishmash of elements from different time periods makes it unique. A lot of people consider this one of the worst films ever made to which I say “Really? THIS is one of the worst? Go watch Master of Disguise and then get back to me about this one. I can also give Roland Emmerich more credit for trying something other than an explosive disaster flick. This movie deserves more love.

It's very unlikely that a mammoth would be able to gallop like that. Elephants only have two gaits, and that's a walk, and basically a shuffling/ running sort of walk (still reaching up to about 25 mph, though.) They can't even jump a foot off the ground. Their bodies are incapable of it.

@@viperwolf2416 Considering it's 10000 bc, coming close to the end of the Stone Age, a lot of prehistoric mammals have become extinct either thanks to the humans, or because of the climate changes. Mammoths and Smilidons and Terror Birds are still around as we can see, but not as many as there used to be. And a lot of the animals are now just fully evolved normal animals, like Gazelles and Antelopes and stuff. Unfortunately for Sid's species, the Megatheriums, (Giant Ground Sloths). I think they would have become extinct at this point.

Okay, I’m pretty sure mammoths cannot gallop, judging how elephants, today, run. Also I’m impressed how 1 man is able to cause a stampede. And kids, this is why you should try and work as a team. If you and others work together, helping each other out in a problem, then the job will get done much easier, rather than try and do something by yourself, otherwise you’ll struggle because there are too many tasks to do and you’ll might not get things done in time.

Killing mammoths with spears and arrows is probably not entirely true. Mammoths were herded towards a cliff with flaming torches until they would slip and fall. In hindsight, large rocks were thrown at them to kill them (similar to a scene from Ice Age). At least that's what we were shown in a film in history class.

If mammoths we’re still alive what would happen?? breaking news: a trainer abused a mammoth and now it’s killing every body
@Baamthe25th
@Baamthe25th 7 лет назад
While this scene is pretty cool, I doubt human back then were able to make net strong enough to stop a friggin mamoth in its course, nor use a complex system of couterweight like that. In fact (or at least, our best guesses) they used persistence hunting, separating an animal from the group, and then just running it down, and killing it after it was too tired to continue. They probably wouldn't get as close tho, and use fire to scare them, not just a spear, lol (that guy would have gotten so trampled irl)
@Baamthe25th
@Baamthe25th 7 лет назад
ant man No, but we have that stuff called science critical thinking, and archeology... For persistence hunting, we know because some tribes still do it in Africa (not on ammoth, of course, but antilope, etc) and analysis seems to indicate we evolved for that (we ar eone of the most endurant animal when it comes down to running)
@Baamthe25th
@Baamthe25th 7 лет назад
ant man I never claimed it was proof, I'm the one who doubted the realism of this version and gave arguments... You just need to imagine how complex and hard of a task this would be, and the logistics. Why complicate your task with a trap that complex, when you could just corner an aniaml near a cliff or run it down ? If you really want to lead him to one place, and keep him her,e you can use fire. Also, you just need to look at Hollywood records for historical accuracy to doubt this. I've researched it a bit, and saw plenty of people saying this movie was bad for that. Anthropologist, archeologist, history students, etc.

ant man we have no evidence at all that primitive man could do this. No artefacts, in fact the most advanced piece of kit we have from that time was probably a spear with a flint tip.
@ap9413
@ap9413 7 лет назад
ant man we have a massive amount of data from these people, even cave paintings depicting their hunting strategy. They may have had bows and arrows too, but no complex mechanisms, as we would have found something by now.

Mammoths were not that much bigger than modern day elephants.
@Brando7867-j1u
@Brando7867-j1u 2 года назад
They were smaller and not as heavy as bush elephants and I don't think they were larger then indian elephants considering there skeletons on display of indian elephants of greater size but know were near a bush elephant.

Mammoths gallopping? WTF? They could run as fast as elephants I suppose but both elephants and mammoths are not able to gallop. The same mistake was made with the dinosaur stampede in King Kong (the one with Jack Black in it).
