CLIP DESCRIPTION:
With a bit of good fortune, D'Leh (Steven Strait) brings down a mammoth and claims the white spear and Evolet (Camilla Belle) as his reward.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A young outcast from a primitive tribe is forced to defend his people from a brutal onslaught in Independence Day director Roland Emmerich's fast-paced period adventure. Despite the fact that he is low man on the totem pole in his tribe of fearless hunters, a brave young boy (Steven Strait) longs to win the heart of a beautiful princess (Camilla Belle) who is well above his station in life. When an overwhelming horde of powerful invaders forces the hunters into slavery and abducts the princess, the once-aimless boy suddenly finds his destiny taking an unexpected turn. One guy would never take on a mammoth. Even if the mammoth doesn't kill you, a broken leg, arm or rib would be far more serious then than now. More likely they'd trap it and a bunch of them would kill it with spears. A lone wolf would never take on a stag deer. The pack would take on the stag.

This is what occurred in the movie and the previous scene. The hunters of the human tribe laid a trap to isolate and kill the mammoth bull but it broke free, with D'leh caught in the netting they'd attempted to trap it with. Where the others jumped off he was unable to escape, and dragged with the mammoth to that location. Mostly he was trying to protect himself and avoid being killed there but due to accidentally getting a spear stuck in the rocks, caused the mammoth to impale itself with its own momentum. By the time his tribe caught up it looked like he had single-handedly decided to continue the hunt and bring down the mammoth when he knows he was simply unable to free himself like the others and killed the mammoth mostly through self-defence and a little luck rather than strict determination (but, after all, since he was responsible for killing it, claims the spear). His tribe did not see all of this and consider him highly for what they see as a single kill.

Canon logic would not work like what this clip shows, a spear that's made of bamboo would be way to weak to withstand the strong skin of the mammoth, you would get trampled to death and the mammoth runs faster, and in the beginning of the scene, he dodges the mammoths tusks, we wouldn't be able to do that, if you encountered an aggressive mammoth, you'd be dead before you know it, because the chances of you surviving a mammoth attack is very low

+Daffa As - I suppose the alternative would have been gibberish with subtitles. But everything about the movie is wrong. It's not even certain people went after mammoths in the Ukraine as opposed to getting the mammoth bones for their lodges from dead animals. If they did hunt them, you can be sure they did a little risk analysis beforehand. They would have to kill the mammoth without getting into a combat with it. Then there’s the question of whether pachyderms can gallop, and whether it’s warm enough to run around barechested even in summer. It may not have got much above 50F at any time of year.
