awesome biotope tank, love the giant pleco chewing on the cucumber (sound of scrape scrape scrape), although I am a bit worried about your arrowanas jumping out. but maybe because they all have drop eye they will try to jump down instead. 😜
Just a piece of advice. Arowana get spooked easily. With that being said if they do, they are for sure jumping out of your tank. All it takes is one of your peacock bass to nudge it and it goes flying into death. Nice tank though.
Tyler Steier agreed... 7 years without a Problem and 2weeks ago... I lost my Alpha male that way. Simply getting rough with the beta male, he jumped too far on the lenght during the night.
Eltofi1 sorry to hear that. There is folklore that says of an arowana dies it's because it's owner was going to have something bad happen to them so they take their own life instead. Maybe it happened for a reason, maybe it was an accident. Either way it sucks.
They COULD be capable... IF they were not completely lazy and fat... I had a sliding doors system during the first 4 years... and from 2 years on, I simply took it off, cause I proved the Silvers are not "wild" enough to jump and hunt... even when I feed with frogs or crickets or live stock, they barely take a look at the upper part... the residual risk is affordable... based on the last 2 years... But I admit there is a risk... which I'm ready to take...

now that would be a good test; "they don't bother" i guess to us we can think that but we really don't know the impact of noises in an aquarium. That would be interesting experiment.
Agreed again, we'll never know for sure. What I was pointing is that Cichla, Astronotus, Myleus and even Osteoglossum had spawnings in this tank. They grew up better that normally, faught for territory, for food too, and after 6 years of this noice, are still doing fine.
not doubting you at all...i noticed this myself on my tanks and the noise it puts out if you stick your ear against the glass. LOL my fish are all growing up fine as well. Congrats on your monsters in either case
Arowanas are always fine... well the 2 last of them (a pair)... Considering the cost, it's a wrong question... because the answer depends on where you live in... and which level of excellence you want... I could have done much better... But as Switzerland is madly too expensive for any project, I have made a low tech version... back in 2011, it cost me around 15,000 € (insulation of the room, humidity extractor, compliant electrical system, concrete wall, by-pass from the house heating system directly in the basement of the tank, glass, waterproof resin, and so on...)
@@StanTheObserver-lo8rx pretty sure you're right... BUT... as I have Panaque schaeferi and Acanthicus adonis, it's simply impossible to use acrylic. the teeth of the Loricarridae are simply destroying the acrylic. After only a few weeks, my "front glass" would have been white from scratching teeth.
no. I bred them for pleasure in 2016-2017. Then my male killed 3 females in a row and I gave him away to the same public aquarium. Now I have 6 females between 14 and 26 months old. A bit young to consider breeding. Anyway, from Switzerland, it's quite difficult to export (CITES and mandatory Capacity Certificate for the buyer). Let's wait a few years (2020) and then, I'll add a male in this group.
as explained on the MFK topic, it's a drop-by-drop permanent system, with an overflow going directly to waste waters. Weekly, I do a back-wash on the mechanical filter (around 3'000 liters) and clean up the bottom of the mud... and the drop-by-drop system refills it, slowly...
