I only had one issue with my 2016 Zero SR but it was taken care of under warranty (it was the AC/DC converter). I averaged about 110 miles/full charge in mixed highway/city driving, with up to 140 miles when going up into the mountains, because it 'regenned' all the way down the mountain. I had 25+K on it when I got hit and run in early November 2020 by a drunk driver. I managed to find the exact same year/model to replace it after the accident, with less than 2K miles and a brand new motor + an extra $1000.00 after my insurance paid off the replacement purchase. Like you, I don't need the extra battery (or charge tank) so I have that nice storage area that comes in real handy. As for the noise issue, remember that Defensive Driving philosophy means YOU are responsible for your surroundings and you SHOULDN'T count on the other drivers to hear/see you. That's why electric is great since you can hear everything around you. The continuous torque is so amazing and fun. And I don't generally do my own maintenance so it's great that I don't have to do any! I have a GIVI case on the back so errands/groceries is no issue. My car sits in the garage and is used only when I take my kayak out fishing. Keep us up to date on the next 20K, ok?
For sure! Currently just over 12k. Yes, absolutely, a rider must always assume no one sees or hears them and ride accordingly. Developing a "Spidey-sense" ability to feel the traffic around you is key, especially if you split. I've also never listened to music or had any comms in my helmet because I've never wanted any distractions. Buuut, as you know, it's no guarantee: I've been hit twice on my previous gas bikes but none so far on this one. (Didn't go down though, which I attribute to extensive dirt bike experience.) Glad you are ok and still riding! Cheers.
i love my 2014 Zero SR, the only 3 mods i did was remove the license plate holder, replace mirrors with bar ends and installed a small usb box fan to keep motor cool
Planning on getting an electric bike soon, I was looking into the livewire but this bike has become a good candidate! So far this bike has my most attention. Thank you for your videos!!!
Love your dog! Looks like a real sweetie. Thanks for the review. I’ve been waiting for the SR/S, but I’m waiting for some charging and/or battery improvements. It’s almost there.
Excellent review thanks. Mine's now on 12,600 miles. Had my fair share of warranty problems but it's an incredible bike. Will be doing my owner's review soon.
@@khrisstake2210 too many to list in detail but all so far have been fixed or being addressed ... Mirror alloy furred.. Replaced, display water ingress.. Replaced, indicator bulb errors... fixed, bad weather protection, throwing mud up... ongoing... Not able to reach top speed... ongoing, ....Water ingress in electronics immobilising bike... Fixed, firmware upgrade bricked bike,... Fixed... You see? And there's some other stuff I can't remember. I'm lucky I have other bikes but still love this
Only 5500 miles on my SR/F(p) so far in the last 6 months here in the UK, but so far all almost trouble-free (front disc replaced under warranty). Got a Charge Tank on mine. Absolutely one of the best bikes I've owned. Got a screen & spoiler on mine, SR/S footpegs, and 1" bar risers, and over winter it's getting Maxton suspension front and rear. I feel like I'll be keeping the bike for quite a while so it's worth upgrading with bling :) And because there's no engine all the money I'd waste on a stupid titanium exhaust system can go on posh suspenders! Win.
Sounds like some nice goodies you’re adding! I might go for the higher seat option on the SR/S as, although I’m short (5’7”), I find the seat a little uncomfortable after about 30 minutes or so. What I’d really like to get hold of is a rear hugger that actually wraps the full length of the upper exposed part of the tyre like on the Livewire. The factory fitment is practically useless and the underside of the seat section just gets sprayed with crap 💩 anytime you go over a puddle. A longer front mudguard option would be handy for similar reasons. Unfortunately I can’t find anyone that produces these particular aftermarket parts. Another part that I wish I had purchased, but now can’t get, is the Accossato handlebar mounted rear brake kit. Goes where the clutch lever would normally be and gets rid of the foot brake. Can’t understand why Zero don’t do this as a factory standard. 😔
@@tribsa7503 I tried to get an Accossato too only to find out they had been discontinued :( ... tho apparently there will be a replacement along at some point
Hello from the UK! I have only done 500 miles on my SR/S so far. Best bike I have ever bought! Wife loves going pillion too. Selling my collection of ICE bikes as they seem, and feel, so old tech and somewhat irrelevant now. Here’s to your next 10,000 miles!
Wife not so keen on pillion here - she says it's so terrifyingly fast that she feels like she's going to get flung off the back. And I only ride it in Street mode :S (And for reference we used to have a ZZR1100...)
@@caspianprince Ha ha! Perhaps you need to get some bungees or Velcro and secure her properly! I must admit though that I can’t use the SR/S to it’s full ‘bullet out of a gun’ potential with the ‘FPO’ on the back. Saying that, I have just purchased the SHAD top rack and top box. That should stop her from being dumped in the road when we make a ‘spirited’ overtake, plus it’s somewhere for her to put the hand bag! I used to have a 1700 VMAX and she hated being on that for similar reasons, plus it was difficult for her to place her feet away from the hot exhausts. Of course that’s not a problem now 😊
@@tribsa7503 I've sort of solved the problem anyway by making her take her own test and she's got a CB500 now :D And there's something about electric bikes, not quite sure what, but even though they can potentially go like a greased weasel I'm content to potter around at any speed at all and it still feels great.
@@caspianprince That's an excellent point that I forgot to make in the video. Low speeds on ICE bikes are a drag but on an electric it's suprisingly a blast. It also makes splitting at low speeds waaaaay less of a headache, and in LA traffic, that is a massive advantage. Cheers.
Great points! Need your input here please, I have the Zero S 2020 with charging tank as my first bike for 6 months now, and I like it a lot! but I have 2 areas that pushing me to maybe upgrade to the SRS or the SRF, am a bigger guy (6' and 240lb) I like to launch it on every red light like my Tesla P, but if I do that on roads with speed 45mph with a stoplight or stop sign every mile or two, it will over heat reaching 250F here in San Diego when it's 82F, the other thing is my commute on a twisty hilly farms road, in open areas when it's windy, the wind can push me with the bike to the side by a foot sometimes, I think because its naked bike, plus am a big guy on a light bike? Also I will look better on a bigger bike, so my question is, do you think these areas can be improved upgrading to the SRS? Have you tried the S? If so how big is the difference? Thanks!
Absolutely yes this bike would be better for you. It has never overheated on me in 23000 miles. I'm 5'11'' 175lbs but I think it would be great for your build as well. Cheers!
Had mine since July but it's been in the shop for a month now. Never ever park the bike without locking the handlebars, even if you think the road is level, don't ask me how i know🙄. Except from that I love the bike, even if there are some issues with the app and how charging works. But on the road it's like a spaceship, love to ride it. The seat is a bit uncomfortable after a long ride but my bum will perhaps get used to it😆 Yeah, it's expensive but to me it's worth it, I didn't want a ICE bike and the SRS is as far as I know the best electric bike around.
Hopefully it's out of the shop soon... Funny story about parking on level ground: if you watch the "Dodger's Stadium" video, at about 1:35 the bike is actually falling over for a split second right after we dismounted due to the sloped parking lot! Fortunately, I somehow slid underneath it and stopped it mid fall. Pointing the bike uphill did the trick. :) Cheers.
Yes, can't wait to get it back. Did 1700 km in the first month and a half and plan to use it for commuting once we can get back to working in the office. I have the top box so my girlfriend feels safe riding with me, I was afraid she wouldn't dare but she actually loves to ride along.
Also look at Energica electric bike. I didn't go for it because it had a chain, which I hate maintaining, and reduction gear box, with oil. But worth doing comparison.
mine has been a piece of shit. back in shop for 3rd time. 1 month out of three in shop..... now they are replacing all the electronics...... they have no clue what is going on.....
It's pretty reliable. I'm at 17k miles now and still not had any problems. (And the only maintenance has been changing the tires.) It tops out at 124mph but off the line it's a rocket! Go for it. I'm still super happy with it. Cheers.
Safety warning: Diablo Rosso III tires have a recommended lifespan between 3-5k miles. Putting 10k miles on them should come with a disclaimer. I ride the same bike that is in this video, down to the same model color and approximate total mileage. My original back tire failed after about 5.5k miles.
With no drafting and highway speeds (70-80) I'd say that's accurate. I believe it calculates based on the previous ride profile so the displayed range will vary. With drafting and a bit lower speed (60-65) you can achieve 2 miles per percent. My lifetime average is 75 Wh/mile which is nearly 4x as efficient as our 2018 Tesla 3. So, with a usable pack of only ~12.5 kWh, its range & efficiency are impressive, considering its high performance specs. It's even more impressive when compared to my old gas bike (2015 Yamaha FZ1): it achieves around 400 mpge so it's ~ 10x as efficient... Cheers.
@@khrisstake2210 Definitely. City riding only, no highway speeds and maybe you'll see that. I think they do accurately depict range somewhere on the site but yeah they throw that out there first as a hook, not unlike Tesla and others...
If you're looking for a faster non toxic fume spewing bike, check out Energica... I don't track ride, so 124 is plenty for a rare open LA freeway sprint. Cheers
