I love the Tactical Solutions barrels, but I have had good luck with a heavy barrel Clark, and one of the Buttler Creek carbon barrels. It just depends on what you’re wanting the build to be like. I think my next build I’ll try one of the Faxon barrels. I have way too many 10/22’s but I love them all. LOL
Looks like all nice stuff. I like the Brownell’s receiver. The Ruger BX trigger is decent and can be made even better with just a little gunsmithing. I'm not familiar with Pike Arms but the bolt looks very nice. The choice of the trigger and stock really depends on what the rifle will be used for. Full bull barrels and large adjustable stocks are great for target and competition shooting but not ideal for the woods, while light barrels and more sporter styled stocks are better for the woods but not great for the bench or competition. Personally, I like fluted stainless steel ER Shaw barrels for targets. The fluting lightens up the barrel a little and provides excellent cooling. Many swear by Green Mountain barrels but I haven’t shot one myself. On a hunter a good compromise is a TacSol aluminum jacketed bull barrel or the same thing offered by Volquartzen. They both shoot tight groups for squirrel head shots but are far lighter, than full diameter or fluted steel barrels allowing for a more balanced hunting rifle. No matter what the purpose, I like thumbhole stocks on a 10/22. They can be made of many different types of wood, polymer, fiberglass, etc., but my main concern is the fit to the rifle and fit to my face & shoulder. I like the Richards Microfit stocks, specifically the "Tac-Driver" Silhouette Style Gunstock for the 10/22. This stock is laminated birch and is very, very strong but extremely light weight. Take a look at their site to see if anything looks good to you. There tons of different stocks and a great many are very good quality but they must fit the body of the shooter (And the wallet) and the purpose the rifle will be used. The one thing I really don't like on a 10/22 hunting gun is an oversized lever type mag release. If the spring isn't super heavy, you'll find it is very easy to drop a mag unintentionally in the woods. They get caught on jackets, belts, ammo carriers, and other items. They work OK for competition but that's about it. This is going to be a good project filled with lots of great videos. Looking forward to it.
Thanks Frank!! I'll definitely check out that company for the stock!! Iv looked at tons of companies for the barrels, I haven't quite yet decided what I wanna do. Totally agree on the bx trigger. It's good but not the best. However it's way cheaper then competition triggers. It's a work in progress tho. I may swap stuff around several times who knows haha. But that is the joy of a 1022.
