On Jerry's flags, I really thought they were overkill until last week when I had a "mini incident". I was going to clean my work AR15. I never chamber a round when I place it in my vehicle. I removed the magazine, broke open the AR and removed the BCG when, to my horror, out came a chambered round onto the floor. Glad I didn't pull the trigger first because it was NOT on safe because I (ignorance/arrogance)never leave a round in the chamber😑. New rule: flag that sucker! I like florescent weedeater cord for its toughness and I have a bunch of odds and ends of it laying around. Thanks for the tip and advice, Jerry!👍

Always "Chamber check, mag check". Always, every time you pick it up or do anything with it. Helpful ghost that really isn't helpful? Maybe an angry spirit that hopes that I'll end up carrying a weapon with no chambered round, get into a "dynamic critical incident", and end up dead because I got the loudest click you never want to hear.

I put it on my Ruger .22lr Charger 10-1/2" pistol and generally leave the "sound-forwarding sleeve" off- because every .22 needs an aggressive muzzle break, clearly. I do want to try it on .223 Rem. sometime, I've just been too lazy to swap it out so far (plus it makes me chuckle every time I see it on the little Ruger). Great video Jerry! @@dennisdain987 At least 2 for sure! You can find cheap no-name versions online for less than 50 clams. A few years later, that little Ruger of mine still has one mounted. It's aluminum, and I have one made of steel on a .223 AR as well. It's nice that I can slap the sleeve on any time there are other shooters on the range. The one Jerry tried is pretty slick though, and still dirt cheap compared to a can! That said, even the cheap ones are functional brakes, mine seems to have similar or slightly better compensation than the A2 birdcage. Difficult to say due to the low recoil of the cartridge, but the reduction in blast/concussion with high-pressure ammo is significant. Great if you shoot with friends or at a busy range.

Having used similar devices on various calibers and rifles its a rather small perceived difference in felt recoil once you add the blast shield or mitigation sleeve. The difference in sound between a muzzle brake and a linear comp is significant, this should be even better than a linear comp.

Remembering a sound mitigation story 40-50 years ago in a shooting magazine (the paper kind you read) where the shooter aligned old car tires in a light frame or box and shot through the alignment at the target - not intended as a mobile device, but to reduce noise complaints from neighbors. Don’t remember whether he measured the mitigation level, but maybe effective enough to warrant a published article?

I can tell there is a difference in sound pitch but because of the technology of the recording device it is difficult to understand the real difference in sound. Anyone know of the dB drop reported by the manufacturer?

It's a chambered linear compensator. They're neat, and surprisingly they're not very popular. The best of the breed is the HERA.

How did it do at mitigating recoil? Seems like it would negate the effects of your muzzle brake

@MVia If it's doing its job then the sound downrange will be louder.

@parrisgeorge9708

I could be wrong but the comp still redirects the gas to the sides. Then the jet effect is much less as it vents out the front of the bigger sleeve due to the amount of space/volume between the comp and outer sleeve.
@corat4965
@corat4965 4 года назад
@@parrisgeorge9708 I would agree but I believe the gas would be slowed down by a pretty large margin as with a lot of brakes the gasses are forced back from the brake at an angle.
@CountryBoy-zl4fh
@CountryBoy-zl4fh 4 года назад
It definitely negates the use of the comp by not allowing the gases to escape out the sides and do it's job of reducing muzzle jump.

Most makers of supressors have a similar product. Like the SureFire Warden, etc. But most only work with their own muzzle devices, so that might be the biggest consideration in what brand to choose.

Doesn’t seem like much difference
@AlexBoom73
@AlexBoom73 4 года назад
That is because the Camera's microphone flattens out the deicibel peaks when its recording. thats why a gunshot in a video sounds loud but not "loud" the only way to know the difference is to actually have a decibel meter at a fixed position (close to the shooters ear position) and do this same test again, then you can visualy see the difference
@PB_
@PB_ 4 года назад
Microphones mostly suck at comparing loudness. They automatically lower the recorded volume to „talking“ loudness. Also the Cam(+Mic probably) wasn‘t near the shooters face where the difference is supposed to be noticable. Tbh this video is useless. The only correct way to show its effectiveness is using a dB-meter where the head of the shooter would be.
@jcims
@jcims 4 года назад
@MVia Seems like it would negate some of the effectiveness of the compensator though? Even in this vid it seems like there's a wee more muzzle flip with it on. Are you able to notice that at all?

I use one of these when I shoot around barricades and stuff, helps stop gas blowback hitting you in the face. It also stops that concision that gives you a headache after shooting a couple hundred rounds. I’m running this on a ptr32 in 7.62x39 though.

I’d be cautious - the original colt commando style carbines used by MACVSOG (sorry don’t have a model number off the top of my head ) had a muzzle devise supposedly to make them sound more like AK pattern rifles and even though it did not make the sound much quieter if quieter at all ATF ruled it was a suppressor. Given this seems to legitimately make the rifle quieter or at least change the sound , I’d be willing to bet they’ll do the same thing .
