Training Vacation in Singapore►bit.ly/FightTIP...
Hey guys, Shane here with 10 MMA footwork movements taken from different martial arts styles including Karate, Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and Boxing. Balance is key, so make sure your weight is evenly distributed between both legs; keep your shoulders level; and practice these movements daily in your shadowboxing!
I am beyond excited for this training vacation at Evolve MMA in Singapore, and hope to see you there! If you've been wanting to train at a legit' fight camp in Asia, this is the one to go to. I trained with Petchboonchu, Kru Rong, Orono, Bruno Pucci, and more world-class trainers earlier this year at Evolve, and had such an incredible experience. Everyone is so friendly, making you feel welcome and comfortable, and their knowledge & instruction is of the highest quality. See you in August?

As a southpaw I started using the diamond step on instinct since I wanted to find a way to move out of my opponents power arm while still being in position to throw mine and circle out of my oponent's center line. Still one of my favorite kinds of footwork

A lot of these techniques are the same as, or similar to, techniques used in Filipino Kali and European fencing (historical and Olympic style). He also mentioned kendo in the beginning. You sometimes hear boxing referred to as "fencing with the fists," but it's interesting to actually see all the parallels and universal concepts, with and without weapons involved. Great video.

I’ve been watching you for many years Shane. I finally swallowed my pride and joined an MMA group with a very skilled MMA fighter as my coach. He sent me a link to this video with the words “study this.” I find it absolutely awesome knowing a going pro MMA fighter recommended studying the video of a man I’ve been following since the beginning… much love, and keep posting vids! (I know this one is old but it’s gold. Maybe a good video on specific partnered and solo drills to practice movements such as these?)

Diamond step looks interesting, im gonne check some tutorials on that... Btw, can you do a video un "chin na" and/or other styles of using locks to throw people?
@jtwhalen5438
@jtwhalen5438 6 лет назад
Not many people know about Chin Na. Not to say it can't be used effectively for self defense. But this is more of a combat sports channel. Try looking into aikido and the locks of hapkido. More videos to explain how they work. Same technique just different martial arts name (:
@gingercore69
@gingercore69 6 лет назад
JT Whalen i know, its one of the reasons i wanna learn hapkido, im actually a boxer with some experience in subakdo, so i learned about, 6 techniques that hace the same concept, wich is not much, and since i didnt practice them with live resistence i thought it was useless... Until i fought with a guy who prwctice taekwondo, he tried to punch me and for some reason my reaction was to grab his wrist, push his elbow and twist him to the ground like i had practiced in my old days... It worked, it was pure luck, but it worked... Then, i was watching a mma instructor talking about savate in mma, and he told a story about one of his students using an "aikido throw" in a sparring, and how that surprised him... So, i was thinking it might be a good idea to talk about something like that... So i looked up how it was called, and the names i got were "lock throws"(usually like "wrist lock throw" or elbow lock throw") and chin na... So i asked with those names
@eborge9711
@eborge9711 6 лет назад
So, Chin na is kind of difficult to find by itself, but almost all styles of kung fu teach it. Chin na isn't really useful for fist fights, it's best before the fight starts (when things are about to break out.)
@gingercore69
@gingercore69 6 лет назад
E Borge interesting, since i posted that comment ive been trying it out with a friend, we tried it against grabs and punches(including boxing punches, since im a boxer) and we had some succes here and there, we both managed to catch eachothers punches and use wristlocks and elbowlocks to throw the other to the ground... Didnt look as fancy as the original chin na and aikido videos we were watching as reference, but the concept of redirecting the oponent by their joints seems to work even against resisting oponents(you get punched a bit if you are not fastcenough, but the other guy falls on the ground) but now that i think of it, it seems to be better to "stop the attack before it happens" instead of trying to catch punches in a fight... Wich is pretty hard... We got it about 3 out of 10 tries...
@eborge9711
@eborge9711 6 лет назад
As someone who practices kung fu, I warn you to be careful. Never "chase" their hands. If perchance they hold onto your gloves or try grab you (Never really seen this too much outside of amateur fighting). Kung fu and aikido fighters will get demolished a lot because they try to chase hands instead of defending. Remember, getting hold of them doesn't matter if you get hit in the process. It seems like your having pretty good success with it though, good on yah!

Seems like footwork is more interesting than punch, so many variations and style. I think footwork carries the signature move of a martial art style, like in a fighting game for example Tekken, we can recognize the style by just looking at the footwork.

Another good footwork that i used in sparring is the passing step! Similair to the walking but insteadof just doing it like walking down the street you throw your rear leg in front of you while at the same time throwing a cross! So when to use it i would suggest you stay out of distance and threat them with weak jabs, and try to make em come forward while they try to time your slow jab but stay in a distance where they need to step into hit you, so once they step in you launch that passing step with a cross! It has so much power....ive hit my sparring partner a lil bit and it staggered him... if done right its supposed to be were they think you cant reach em but timing that foot with the cross will cover so much distance that he wont expect that at all he will run in to your punch.

Fooxe That would be nice. In karate I try to let them throw a few techniques until they start to get a little slower(and sloppy), and then I counter them and start my own attacks. Idk if that'll carry over to what you're looking for, but if it works for you plz let me know. P.S if I evade enough of their initial attacks; that'll often get frustrated and start to "over commit" and then I can get them off balance.

Oh, i know its kinda late to post something like this but. Isn't your 180º spin too big? Your leg its going outside too much, that only makes you take more to fix your leg again. The leg you move should make a straight line to where it will stand at the end, yours make a big curve.
