Moti Horenstein discusses self-defense concepts and conducts a master class demonstrating how to use Krav Maga for self-defense in various situations.
Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art. Developed for the Israel Defense Forces. It is built for self defense situations and uses simple but effective techniques. Weapons training is also a big part of the practice students will often train offensive and defensive knife and gun techniques and tactics.
Grandmaster Moti Horenstein, born and raised in Israel, discovered his passion for martial arts at a young age. Beginning with judo at the age of 5, he found discipline, balance, and confidence through the sport. His father later enrolled him in Hisardut, a training system combining judo, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and Krav-Maga, under the guidance of Dr. Dennis Hanover. Dr. Hanover's influence and strict training prepared Grandmaster Moti for his service in the Israeli Defense Forces, where he served in the Airborne Special Forces and commando divisions. His army experience, including fighting in the Lebanon War, left a lasting impact on him, shaping his mindset and survival skills. Continuing his martial arts journey, Grandmaster Moti achieved notable titles and championships in different styles, including becoming a world champion kickboxer. He also holds a ninth-degree Black Belt in Hisardut Krav-Maga and a Black Belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In 1992, he established the Survival Center, which later expanded to three locations, where he shared his knowledge and expertise through teaching seminars to various organizations. Grandmaster Moti's commitment to constant growth and development drives him to provide his students with the best techniques in the Survival Hisardut System. Additionally, he holds the distinction of being the first Israeli UFC fighter.

He instructs in the implications of simple movements, in context. I love this kind of instruction. It has the best chance of being employed in real life situations, because it is simple and grounded. The expert will be able hang more onto these techniques and use them more efficiently, but the novice will be able to incorporate the mindset and the basis for the movements.

When I was learning martial arts, I once said that in a real life situation you’re not going to greet your attacker. My instructor told me that the reason we do greetings and stuff is to gain the moral high ground. To prove that you’re “better” than the one attacking you. Basically like getting on a high horse. Doing that just puts you on a higher level than them. Of course, there are times when you won’t be able to, such as if you’re ambushed and you don’t have time to think, but for the most part, I find it very true. Sometimes street kids would pick a fight with me (because I’m well dressed so they assume I’m rich and try to extort money, I assume) and instead of answering their provocations, I just reply with hello/good day to you. Need anything from me? Not only did it make me feel, well, “higher” than them, it also let me buy time and watch their reactions. Once you look at them and how they react to the greeting, you can kind of tell what kind of people they are. Maybe they’ll look confused because you’re not cowering, or maybe they greet back too, or maybe they’ll just go straight for the beat down. It tells you on whether or not they’re confident in themselves, or if they know what they’re doing, or if they just want a fight. And if they reciprocate and it doesn’t look like they want a fight, maybe you can resolve it diplomatically. Once they just wanted my money for some food or medicines. I gave them some cash and told them to buy some stuff for me and them at a nearby store. When they did that, I paid them with some more cash and told them good job, thanks. I mean, I might as well teach them how to properly work for their cash… right? Communication skills. How else did humanity become what it is today?

My friend, I teach my clients self-defense, and MMA also Ihave13 years of experience with street fights as I am on frontline in dangerous places. Just one free piece of advice: when you strike elbow, your shoulder should be higher to cover your jaw. Also, your forearm should go on your own face level. This will protect your face from the counterattack in case you miss or your opponent is quicker.

In the street fights, try not to go to the ground. Stay on your feet as possible. Street fight is not in the ring and with a referee and a soft mat.

The only way to learn how to stay on your feet is to learn grappling. It's always boxers that talk about concrete and broken glass but have never spent any time learning take down defence.

you don't chose to go to the ground you just end up there
@johncollinowensy4255
@johncollinowensy4255 9 дней назад
A word of advice though, if your opponent hits the ground, don’t try to step on the person or try to kick him while they’re down. Sure, you’ll get some good hits in, but you’ll be very surprised at how easy it is to grab onto someone’s leg and, with the right know-how (or luck) bring you down too. Grappling is the best skill to learn for this imho. Vice versa if you’re on the ground, protect your head, keep one foot on top of your other knee (it helps with maneuverability), watch what the other person does. Essentially, it’s the same as when you were standing, wait for an opportunity and strike. If they try to low kick you near your upper body, grab their ankle from behind and roll+pull in the direction of their kick, if executed properly (and it will hurt a bit when it grazes you) you are essentially making them overextend their kick and thus lose balance. Works especially well if they lean forward during the kick. If they aim for the legs, maneuver yourself out of the way, roll, twist spin, however you like. If you’re about to get up and they charge at you, wait for an opening to tackle or evade. In every street fight, it’s really just wait for the moment to strike. Untrained people are random and unpredictable, but only for the first few shots. Once you see it, you can take it. Hit and run, works every time.

@@kravmagaCDK of course you should ask that . Street fights are not choreographed and your assailant will not be compliant or playing along . As a boxer I watch the video and see that an uppercut would penetrate the guard . Telling people something is 100 percent effective when it isn’t might be irresponsible. This is the problem with self defence classes in general. People go to a few classes a month and are led to believe they have a fair chance of disarming a determined assailant with a knife .
@twonganttable

That’s a good question. But if an uppercut is attempted it’s easily detectable because the body movement of your opponent gives it away. Slide the forearm of the blocking arm to stop the uppercut and attack as needed. Non stop.

It's so bad idia to get close on the street with jirks you don't know what's in their left hand, maybe a knife and you're dead! Bad advice, you shouldn't get close only as a last resort, and even then you don't need to, what if the opponent is a combatant and you're done! Very easy advices to meet a god! Especially since there are a lot of people practicing now and they are already higher level than a beginner, you should always treat your opponent as if he is a dangerous ninja, then you have a chance to knock him out. Be cool be good, not dead! Peace!

The first few literally will not work on someone taller than you unless they bend down/in to your level. You can't as a shorter person hold your arms out and touch the persons shoulder level. Advantage lost. You can't come in with a defensive elbow position wrap arms, pull up and hug, either. Not unless they came in diving at you. This is all so completely flawed. Any drunk coming in swinging is going to headbutt or kick/knee if someone moves into them with elbows. In the crazy off-chance, like that girl, you get someone taller in that arm lock (he could easily get out of, btw), you're forced to kick/knee to make it work...why is that? Because science. If, however, your opponent is shorter, congratulations, you're going to make short work of them.
