I met Crispin Glover after a screening of one of his movies... I brought my VHS copy of Back to the Future for him to sign. I thought he was going to be mad, but he signed it and was polite and thanked me for coming to his film.
Here's a cool piece of trivia. During the filming of Part III, which saw an appearance by awesome rock band ZZ Top, a scene that included the aforementioned band encountered a delay because a piece of equipment malfunctioned or otherwise wasn't working properly. So, to kill time while it was getting repaired, the band took requests and played. After quite a while of this, someone came up to Zemeckis and asked if the equipment would be fixed soon. He replied, "It got fixed nearly an hour ago. I just didn't want to stop the party." Awesome.
Awesome story. ZZ Top was one helluva party no matter how you listen to em! One of the all time greatest rock groups. Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard are LEGENDS! RIP Dusty.
See I always thought of the ending as Marty's parents were much happier with themselves, which in turn inspired them to do better career-wise (and led to having more money as a side effect).
Similarly, George had the confidence to write his Sci Fi novel..and likely other literary projects, leading to a comfortable lifestyle. "Standing up to bullies will give you confidence." Thats what I got from it. Often leading to confidence that leads to some level of success in life. Also Marty (The Protagonist) gets what he wanted through divinity or destiny or however you want to look at it. Getting the 4x4 wasnt a greed based reward. Marty saved the lives of his family in different ways. Changed biff into a more respectful, more humble person. Saved Doc Browns life. Inspired Chuck Berry to completely rip off an unknown artist's work, note for note..lol. Aside from the Chuck Berry thing, which was really Marvin's doing, Marty was being Heroic and brave. His actions helped his parents become less about image, more about family (Lorraine), and Self Confidence, Self Respect (George) leading to a less dysfunctional family. (Sister is a bit of a slut, and miserable. uncle in Jail. George a pushover. Mom Depressed alcoholic). So I disagree with Crispin Glover's assessment of the end of the movie. I think he just didnt want to see a positive message, and thought his fame(haha) would allow him some control of the ending. He didnt get it, and acted like a brat afterwards. Even David Letterman couldnt stand him. And he liked almost everyone (not Jauquin though lol)
@@killwalker : all actors have some input into the films that they are doing, yet I totally agree about the whole ‘they had servants’ thing’, ugh! I do like how you spoke about self image and believing in oneself. 👍👍👏👏‼️ I was going to put something similar, then read your comment. I was surprised that he thought that greed was ever what the ending meant. I mean, when the dad learned to take care of not only himself but also his future wife ........ that led to the better outcome for his family.
@@killwalker I agree with what you said, except for the end. Crispin Glover is pretty much the only cast member who not only still gets consistent work, but I think actually gets better with age
Michael J Fox is one of my favorite actors of all time. He literally put his life on the line for this movie and gives me more appreciation for him. This was one of my favorite movies ever.
Cindy M. D. Well that’s a little extreme. I too love Alex P Keaton , but putting his life on the line for acting is an hilarious statement but I’m not sure you really meant to be funny.
Now when I see that scene of him being hanged, I keep picturing his respiratory arrest and them having to do the required rescue breathing to bring him back.... YICKS ‼️ Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like he need the whole CPR routine!!! The cast and crew that day must have been so shocked while he was being revived, as it doesn’t always work.
Minty, one of my favorite aspects of this channel is your positivity. Even when you're talking about things you don't like. I've simply seen too many movie reviewers using anger and negativity to drive their videos. I don't care if the negativity is just an act, but I need balance and you give me some much needed positive vibes in all the noise.
May I say that time travel is the BEST Sci-Fi genre there is. Nothing like watching a time travel movie/ TV series or reading a time travel novel to give your brain a good logical workout.🤯😂
@@cheneethompson5756 Me too but with a Twist. I only ever heard of AOR and the band Journey in the late Nineties when I was in my late twenties. I listened to more heavier bands like Def Leppard in the eighties. But I'm making up for it now as AOR is now my favourite music genre.
the only reason I knew about Back to the Future the movie in 1985 when I was 9 was there was a parody of it in Mad Magazine, that made me want to see the movie
My sister showed Back to the Future to her daughter and she loves it! It really is one of those few movies everyone can can enjoy no matter how long after it's release!
I still have my October 22 2015 edition of USA Today. USA Today actually printed the front page of the paper from BTTF II. With Griff and his gang on the front page.
I remember when McDonald’s ran a promo where you bought a happy meal and you got to pick a movie from a selection of 5 movies. Back to the future was one of the movies
"They don't want to be following these little sh*ts" LOL! Also, the Jacket that Marty wears in the cartoon series reminded me of the one he wears in part 1 when Doc takes him to his parents' school for the first time; slightly different color scheme, but it just reminded me of that.
I agree, I am very surprised that he doesn’t have at least a million followers, I have watched other reviewers of movies and I keep coming back here, as his are much better!!! Plus, I like your comment about that boy probably having to pee. Maybe there were several takes of that scene and that was a signal so that he didn’t interrupt the dialog. Interesting theory. 👍👍 FYI: though I really do like CinemaWins too.
As soon as Minty mentioned this, I cringed at the visual of what probably would have happened!!! Kids do like to imitate what they see, especially in a great movie like this‼️
I found the story of Stoltz getting fired, with his Method Approach, demanded everyone call him Marty on set and when Spielberg fired Stoltz he called him Eric, Stoltz said 'It's Marty' which Spielberg went on to say 'No it's not, your Eric and your fired'. Apparantly he would ignore anyone on set who called him his real name... Sure Tom Wilson once said that he actually thought Stoltz's name was actually Marty
I remember coming across a clip of a Q&A session Wilson was a part of years later. According to him, he thought he was the one getting fired because Bob Gale (I think) wanted to tell him in person instead of over the phone.
I've heard about this before, but I've got no idea if it's actually true. This comment is making me realize that it's not as ridiculous as it seems. Don't get me wrong, I know there's some real Method Actors out there, but there's something about the story that's never seemed right to me.

I broke up with my girlfriend of 5 years a week ago and have been so down about life since. I've nene binge watching these videos and there's something strangely comforting about them and the way Minty presents them. I appreciate these more than ever dude!
Crispin Glover's account of the contract dispute is wildly inaccurate. Zemeckis, Spielberg, and Gale have all given detailed explanations of what happened. Basically, Glover wanted to be paid more and have more lines in the sequel. He also had his own ideas for how his character should have developed. Glover wanted his character to become a cool, hip guy. Glover and his agent knew B2TF was a huge hit and thought they could negotiate their way into getting what they wanted, but from the point of view of the directors and producers, their demands were just too high. As time went on, and B2TF 2 began shooting without Glover having signed a contract, Glover and his agent continued to play hard ball. Eventually shooting began, and Glover still hadn't been signed to a deal. Approximately 2 weeks into filming, Glover and his agent realized the studio wasn't going to give in to their demands and suddenly they went crawling on their hands and knees... but by that point they had already soured their relationship with the producers. Zemeckis and Gale had already re-written the script, accounting for Glover's absence. The whole thing became a huge headache for the cast/crew and a failed power-play for Glover. His career never recovered.
I’ve heard Gale give different accounts. Not so with Glover. Then they did steal his face and mannerisms for part II rather than completely recast like with Marty’s girlfriend, so it turned out they did need him and he got paid by suing their pants off, so he ended up on top.
I find this a one sided version of events. I honestly loved Glover’s performance and let’s be honest, the studio had more than enough money to pay an actor. As I grow older I can see how the bigger corporate industry is more about making money and not doing the people and actors right, but you have one side of the story.
@@letsgo214 No, he mentioned 3 different people's account....and everyone always says Crispin is weird an unlikable. It's easy to criticize a company, but they are responsible for far more than one person. It's a business that has deadlines to meet.
@@lookbovine sued their pants off huh? No he was awarded 760 grand minus legal fees....which is far less than the million he was demanding to be in the movie.
I heard that it took more than Spielberg's involvement to get "Back To The Future" up. The studios only showed interest when Robert Zemeckis made "Romancing The Stone" and it was successful at the box office. This convinced Universal that Zemeckis could direct a successful film, and took on BTTF. Of course, Zemeckis would not only have success with the BTTF franchise, but he would win an Oscar for best director for "Forrest Gump".
I was 8 when the cartoon was on. It was okay at the time. I haven’t looked at it as an adult. The franchise is timeless even more so than Star Wars. Gonna give the comic a read also.
The ‘Star Wars’ movies that followed the first trilogy, just didn’t seem to capture the same magic. There are some interesting scenes and new characters yet ...... nope, just didn’t accomplish it.
@@slcRN1971 I blame the cgi Droid vs gungan battle and jar jar Binks. Also the main antagonist was mostly silent. The pod race is really good though if you have a subwoofer.

Between 22nd December 2010 to 21st July 2011, Telltale Games brought out Back To The Future: The Game for PC/ Os x, PS3/4, Wii and Xbox 360/One. The story was about Doc Brown as a young man, that Marty had to convince to go into science, so the delorean time macine can be built.
Wow Erick S. I never knew. I loved him in Some kind of Wonderful. He is a very serious actor. There's a big difference between him and Fox. Love love all 3 movies! Great job Minty.
Dave Booshty I saw it in the Theaters too! I was 5 and it’s 1 of the 1st movies I actually remember seeing it and I can remember I was quite the whole time so intent watching. I’m sure my mother probably remembers it to be the 1st movie I was totally quite @ throughout and didn’t get bored. Lol I loved that movie and still do. It’s such an achievement whenever any work of music or film holds up and stands the test of time. BTTF is most definitely 1 of those movies even with how far the special affects have come, BTTF is still Great.
Biff becoming an auto detailer makes perfect sense. He hated having to spend so much money on having his car repaired that he never wanted to have to do it again, so he took to doing it himself and eventually made a career out of it.
I never saw the end of part 1 as that money makes one happy, but that ONE tiny little change in the past can screw up the future as we know it. Just one punch into Biffs face made George more confident and that made him more successful while Biff turned out a bit more humble
Me too:) I even feel like Biff is always pushing George around because he's trying to get him to fight back...that would've been neat if it was the case, then at the end they're friends.
"Doc: Marty!! Marty: Doc? Doc: Marty, you have to come back with me. Marty:Back where??Back to The Future?? Doc: No,back to the Grocery Store!...We for got the Milk and Fig Newton cookies! Marty: This is heavy Doc...I told you not to for get the damn Milk and cookies.",ha!
Marty: Doc, we just need some milk and cookies. Doc: In 1985, milk and cookies are probably available at every corner store but here in 1955 they are more difficult to come by.
Production designer Andrew Probert (also designer on Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek) drew the comic book cover, but the kid's thumb covers his signature.
I think Crispin Glover was being a bit short sighted. Speaking for myself at least, the takeaway at the end for me was that Marty’s parents and brother and sister became who they were supposed to be. Also that Biff got what he deserved. Marty’s involvement in past events was key to bringing out the best in them.
I saw an interview with Glover. To me, he came off like he had the higher moral authority or that he knew better than the writers or director. I mean, dude, you're an actor.

Here are a few BTTF facts. The Tell Tale BTTF game featured the voice work of Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. However Fox didn't record his lines as Marty as that honor went to A. J. Locascio. Fox did voice William McFly and his future version of Marty. Also Christopher Lloyd is open to the idea of a IV BTTF movie. Michael on the other hand flip flops. One hand he would love to." Zemeckis and Gale both have contractual final say on any sequel or remake, and are adamantly opposed to either as long as they live. Fortunately, the CEO of Universal agrees with them, if he's still in charge.
You Got number 10 wrong Minty! Bob Gale (one of the writers of BTTF) visited his parents and looked through his father's yearbook and dreamed of travelling through time to be friends with his father as a teenager and go to school with him. Not Robert Zemeckis.
Totally correct on the fridge thing. Friend owned 64 Nova. Because the mall was our mall at Puente Hills she'd drive out and push the car to 88 mph trying to get to the future.
I absolutely loved the trilogy and have seen them dozens of times. I did know that Michael J. Fox was not the original Marty McFly. I remember an animated show that had Doc and Marty traveling around in the train seen at the end of the 3rd one. The only part that I really, Really hated was at the end of the 3rd movie, the dreaded C word, Concluded. LOL.
The first movie deals with the issue of self confidence which both George and Marty lack at the start of the movie, the only Big difference is that it shows more in George via his wallflower behavior. The fact Marty ends up with the 4x4 he spies earlier is merely a fringe result of the change in life path of his father George
the moral of the story.. never agree to be “hanged” as an actor, it seems to go poorly incredibly often. Brendan Frasier almost died in The Mummy doing the same thing

Back to the Future is an awesome classic movie. Crazy to go so far into production and recast the lead character (Eric Stoltz to Fox), then recast Jennifer and have to refilm the ending to match the sequel, and the whole Crispin Glover drama. The latter: just show up to work, shut up, and be happy to be there. Everything else will take care of itself; a way to wear out your welcome in Hollywood is to not be an A-list actor, and offer an unsolicited critique of the director and Steven Spielberg's story. There's something just so natural with Michael J. Fox that it's really hard to imagine someone else in that part. I rewatched II again and it makes me laugh when Marty goes to 2015 and he is in awe "The future..." And now imagine him seeing the real 2015. "It really doesn't look much different other than people are fixated on their handheld devices which are apparently phones and computers all in one". I'm no neurologist, but if you're working around the clock and have a latent neurological disorder, wouldn't that aggravate and possibly increase the chance of it occurring? i.e. Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's.
