Personal list: 1. DBR1 (Looks) 2. DB4 GT Z (looks) 3. One 77 (looks and sound) 4. DBS Manual (looks, sound ,drive) 5. Vulcan 6. Vantage V600 V12 (looks, sound, drive) 7. Vantage V12 Z QS racing exhaust Concours D'Elegance prototype ( in my opinion, best sounding Aston, if not V12 ever to come from the British isle) 8. Vanquish Zagato (looks, sound, ride) 9. AM V8 (looks, sound) 10. Aston Martin Speed Red Dragon 1936 (earliest model that I can remember liking the looks of.) Honourable mentions: DBR1-2 B09/60 Lola LMP1 (I know I shouldn't because it's a race car but it's the best looking and sounding LMP1 I have ever seen and heard.) DB5, DB6, V8 vantage, DB9, DB7. You know the story.
Vanquish S is the best modern Aston. Fabulous car, looks amazing, sounds amazing at 30mph, rides beautifully and is very reliable, more so than Merc's or Bmw's
Great episode fellas (some controversial pics no doubt)...I love my V12 Vantage Carbon Black Edition (6 speed manual)...one of the best car noises I have heard...it is basically a factory sponsored hot rod (small chassis with big engine), a mini DBS (interior is the same, engine is the same, transmission is the same, and exterior looks very much alike)...I prefer the 6-sp transmission vs 7-sp dogleg (personal preference), but regardless, a manual transmission is a must for a V12 Vantage (IMHO)
Who doesn't love an Aston ?? My neighbours ex-husband has a new Vantage in a sort of mat grey colour, I try to feign indifference when he picks the kids up but my drooling always gives the game away !! Again great video you two, hope you and yours are keeping well, best Damon
Great list and I 100% agree with the V12 Vantage S. It is as awesome as it is bonkers. Like Mercedes dropping their 6.0 V12 into a C-Class. But you really kinda have to spec it in black to make those ugly hood vents disappear.
DB4 Zagato for me... a local fellow has one...stunning! I have seen the vantage zagato in person...and the styling does not work very well. But it certainly stands out...
Great list. I'd only add the DB4. So pretty. I've owned a Gaydon V8 Vantage, great car. I'd like a V12 Vantage S or an 80s V8 Vantage, which I did drive in a treasure hunt/rally 20 years and was very special. Buy a Lagonda. A supplier of mine had one new back in the day. We used to go to lunch in it. It was like being in space 1999.
I wasn't expecting you to include the Vanquish Zagato shooting brake but I am so glad you did as it has to be my favourite Aston Martin. It is just so beautiful/
Before i watch, my top 5 would be - 1989 Aston Martin Series 5 V8 Vantage 580X Pack Saloon, 1990 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato Coupe , 2000 Aston Martin Virage V600 LeMans, 2003 Aston Martin DB7 V12 Zagato Coupe and a 2020 Aston martin Vanquish Callum 25.
Good to see you both having so much fun doing this list. Always enjoy your banter.. that's what makes you so unique. Great list, by the way. Who can't love the Lagonda. There's that car mad collector who has about 5 of them. Probably enough parts to make a going one.
DBR1, then DBS followed by 1980’s DB Vantage....cannot get away with most Zagato’s. - Oh also agree about the Lagonda...DB5 is eye candy but agree not a great drive...
My choice of Aston's would be the DBR1, DB4 GT, DB4GT Zagato, DB5, V8 Vantage(70's/80's), Vantage V600 LM, second gen DBS, Bertone Jet 2+2, V12 Vantage GT12 and the Vanquish Zagato Shooting Break.
My no 1 is the v550 vantage from the 90s, clarkson raced a Diablo in one of his videos and the vantage won, the most powerful production car in the world at one point. 550 bhp 550 ibft of torque, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds , 0-100 in 10 seconds and deristricted 200 mph. £500000 to buy now and the best part you won’t c another one on the road. As these days everyone is driving the same cars.
Good Top 10. Seeing the mid-90's V8 Vantage reminded me how impressed I was when I first saw it on Top Gear when I was about 19. I wrote to Aston Martin and was invited for a tour of the Newport Pagnell factory which I snapped up. It was a great day - sat in an oldy-worldy reception waiting for the older gentleman who was to show me around thinking about the history of the place. When he arrived we walked to a large door and he said "welcome to heaven" before opening the door to a room full of V8 Vantages both new and mid-80's style and various other models. The most memorable car was an almost new red V550 V8 Vantage that belonged to Chris Eubank. The factory was still very old school back then with craftsmen beating panels with hand tools and ladies hand stitching leather. What a place that was...
Well for such a subjective list we have a 50% overlap but where was the 2014-2018 Vanquish, other than the shooting brake, surely one of the most beautiful cars of any make, any time? Fabulous content and comments as always, makes lockdown palatable!
Some of these are right. My top 10 are: DBR1, DB3S, DB4GT/Zagato, DB4, DB5 Convertible, V8 Vantage (70s model), V8 Zagato, Vanquish (original), DB9/DBS, One77

Well: I miss the unique Aston Martin Cygnet, guys!!! 😂 Incredibly rare too... And: serious: the Victor! Amazing car!
My choice would of been that wedge shape Lagonda from the 70's. I remember first seeing it on the front of a car magazine when I was a kid with it's digital dashboard and thought.. Wow !!!. Of the modern Astons, the Vanquish is a very pretty car. Great vlog, love these top 10 lists.
Aston Martin DB5, One-77, DBS V12 (6MT), V8 Series 1 Lagonda and V8 Vantage Oscar India are my top 5 Astons of all time, in no particular order. Honorable mentions would be DB6 and Vanquish Zagato coupé.
A blue 1980s v8 vantage x pack with a light coloured interior would be my favourite Aston , maybe my favourite car of all time Maybe my favourite sounding car of all time Absolutely magnificent 👍🏻
I really like Aston Martin’s more modern cars, particularly from the DB7 onwards... to me after DB5/DB6 up to the DB7 (about 30 years between these models) it looked like they were trying to design Ford’s rather then Aston’s... by the way, can’t get it why I never the word “Vanquish” (I’m excluding the Zagato here) during the video... Still, a great video guys 👏 Thank you for entertaining us 🙏 We want BMW, Mercedes, Rolls Royce or McLaren next (although McLaren has not launched a lot more than 10 cars to date 😂).
AM are one of them brands that don’t stack up on paper when compared to competition and for what you get for the money but, but, the brand heritage, the build quality, the noise etc all make you feel special, it’s the closest brand to Ferrari for making you feel like a rock star I think but with a suit on haha. Something about seeing those wings. There’s always something that you want to spruce up, whether it be the heavy clutch, or the slightly dated interior but you fall in love with it anyway. Driving a last gen AM over a modern car brings back all those original driving pleasures which aren’t about out and out speed. Don’t think I could go back to a modern car now. I’m going to disagree with you about the DB11, I think it’s a much better looking car in the flesh than pictures suggest but it was completely overshadowed by the DBS. The DBS would have been a triumph if they had given it a proper none Mercey interior to stand it apart from the DB11 for the 100k extra. Would love a drive in a dog leg modern Vantage I feel that will really up the fun factor of the new Vantage. Anyways never had AM on my radar and then instantly fell in love with one and bought it and haven’t looked back 🤣
Great list of AM’s. Owned a 1987 V8 EFI for 10 years. It was amazing. Totally agree with all your comments about it. Also love the V600. Great shows. Keep it up.
My life is complete, my Vantage V12S comes in at the start did not have to hold my breath, love the list the DB7 Zagato should have been the standard DB7 as a cat that was/is stunning and one of many to have "saved" AML. The Vulcan and Valkyrie I assume miss out given not a road car and not yet released. Was at the Concourse de Elegance in 2019 when the Vulcan was voted the future classic most likely to be highly collectible. Mine is in black so the carbon offsets are not carbuncles. One of 27 here in Oz. As always a great video. I would probably have preferred the Vanquish S over the Shooting brake which is novel but not stylish like the Vanquish.
Back in early 2000s i owned a 1985 V8 Vantage and while having it serviced at Roos Engineering in Bern Switzerland i was given a V600 to take out for a test drive. All i can say is it sounded good however i was happy to get back into my V8 Vantage which felt lighter and more nimble which is saying something. I very nearly purchased a 1980s V8 Vantage Zagato coupe which i was told being lighter was a nicer drive than the v8 vantage. I also owned a 2005 Vanquish S, and apart from the terrible gearbox it was a nice car again great sound but dated interior. Today i would go for a late 80s V8 Vantage X-PACK.
Nice selection guys especially the Lagonda and the AM V8 the Oscar India is a personal favourite I’m surprised the DBS/DBS V8 (the Roger Moore Persuaders car)wasn’t included in the list my personal favourite Aston it was also a Bond car in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. I would have had also included the DB6 Radford Shooting Brake both for its rareness only 6 made and looks 👍😎
With the db5 though, there are companies who can give it a revamp underneath so you keep the 60s styling with a more modern car underneath. Like eagle with the old Jaguars
Aston martin is truly a British icon. Legendary models and of course James Bond like them. But after 5 years , it depreciates to about 20 % of the original cost. yet to mention the maintenance bills.
Yeah the AM catalog is an eclectic collection of style, power and money , Some great looking cars with super Top Trumps scores. DBS would be the one for me :)
Jason I Can’t believe you got a trip to Newport Pagnel with your school. We got a trip to the local village farm, Im feeling cheated . Love Aston Martin, you guys chose very well. Best wishes from Spain
Hi The car guys. Is it possible you want to make a movie about the cars that people do not like from the big brands? Where you try to drive for example porsche 924, Ferrari mondial and maybe a DeLorean DMC-12 lamborghini urraco maserati bi turbo, and so on, and hear your opinion about them if they really are as bad as people say they are.
I’m going to be controversial here but I’ve never rated Zagato. An appalling design house IMHO. The original designs are always prettier, better sculptured, balanced visually. I’m perplexed as to why people love them so much.
I think it is connected to their rarity and I understand your point of view... up to the point when you see a Vanquish shooting brake in the flesh. In my case this was in the foyer of Aston Martin Gaydon HQ. I was so overwhelmed I didn't even take a picture of it!
Right it’s the last straw now, I don’t know what to do. I’ve worked damn near 7 days a week since I was 19 (I’m now 30) for nothing. My first big chance at a promotion I was told to move location only to find out there was never a promotion intended, when I’d spent so much time and effort moving and working hard. Secondly a colleague stole months of my project work to gain a promotion that was meant for me. When I had a meeting to prove it was my work I still didn’t get anywhere just a good old “good work keep it up”, whilst she didn’t even get a slap on the wrist and kept her promotion. Then my dad tries to commit suicide because he was diagnosed with cancer and my mum had been cheating on him for years. Then my car got hit and I couldn’t afford to repair it. Then I got targeted by fraudsters and lost the majority of the money I had for my house deposit. Then my wife i and have lost three children during pregnancy. Now I’ve been working for years to get back to management for them to hire someone who has been sleeping with the senior leader. I feel exhausted and feel like nothing has gone right despite my hard work. I can’t sleep and I don’t know how much more I can take. I’m sorry for venting and I know it’s not on topic with the episode but the car guys are my distraction and a channel I love. I feel comfortable for sharing and at least got something off my chest.
Sounds awful, but chin up my friend - you can get through this. If you promise to keep watching, we’ll promise to keep you distracted and hopefully entertained. Deal?
Really enjoyed that Damian . A few years ago I got to sit in the the actual 1970 DBS in Bahama yellow used in the tv series " The Persuaders " driven by Roger Moore my all time favourite TV show growing up, it was like meeting my childhood hero , something I will never ever forget , the owner at the time a chap called Edd told me lots of stories and anecdotes about the car over a 2 hour chat at a car show, like the "BS 1" numberplate to denote Roger Moores character of Lord Brett Sinclair was actually on personal loan from Billy Smart the famous circus owner . ! Edd later sold the car at Bonhams in 2014 for £533,500 a world record for that model of car that still stands today. 👍
But not good enough for the Garage for some reason .... seeing as they do not have an AM in their collection ..... buy British I say not all these ludicrous Italian numbers that look like Del Boy and Rodney dressed up like Batman and Robin .... give me a Vanquish any day ?
V600 !!!! Virage vantage db2 1990 Zagato if i remember my observer pocket guide from 90 200ish mph. Another class video boys.... cant wait to see you together again
Funnily enough I went to Aston Martin at the time of the Lagonda best school trip ever no robots then just a old man with a sheet of metal rolling it back and forth through a wheel then on to a wooden frame of a wing
By the way...up to 11. Seems like the latest DB is not your cup of tea, but I‘m pretty sure it‘s gonna save Aston‘s pretty ass like Mr. Brown in the early days and the DB7 back in the 90‘s. Especially the V8 version is gonna be a winner I guess, against all V12 purists.
The thing about the Lagonda is that it was designed and built with the same stone tools used to make the Giza pyramids. So only proper geezars bought them. Aston Martin always puzzled me, they make some of the prettiest cars out there but don't seem to have all that much success. Or it could just be me, even out here in the middle of the atlantic there's a few Vantages bobbing around, so maybe they do have sales success but nobody drives them with fear they will fall apart. A stock black Db 9 is just such an elegant thing... but you could probably get more fidelity out of a nymphomaniac than reliability out of that car. The old vantages to me just seemed like a posh mustang really. It's almost as if the design is too perfect, that they follow the golden ratio so much that there's no actual personality in the cars sometimes... and then they overdose on Zagato. hic*
Wow I did a lot of agreeing in this ep! This was really enjoyable! Thought you were joking about the drunk board meeting. Love those anecdotes. Like the Woolf Barnato Bentley Blue Train Special story. Makes my spine tingle. I’ll throw one in... Honorary mention; 1970 DBS in Bahama Yellow - The Persuaders. Great stuff. Thanks.
I remember the AM Lagonda appearing at the British motor show and because no one saw it running, some other manufacturer (Enzo ?) spread rumours it was just a mock up and would never be made in an attempt to stifle any orders.
