When you were going through all of those episodes, I remembered watching a lot of these as a kid. It gave me some major nostalgia. I think the one that was particularly chilling for me was the Riddler episode where at the end of it, Bruce Wayne was wondering how much a good night sleep was worth since the Riddler was never apprehended. Cut to Mockridge quaking in his boots, checking his house with a gun to make sure Riddler wasn't lurking there.
I remember watching episodes before dinner back in the day ...came on right before we served...still have the first 3 seasons on recorded VHS....just a great show
I loved the series when it was on. To be honest, the 90's were an amazing time for superhero animation. Besides this show, DC also had Superman and Justice League. Meanwhile, Marvel had Spider-Man, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. I know there were many others but these were a few of my favorites.
This is a great list! There are too many episodes to name, though. I’d put “Heart of Ice” as my favorite because of the great job it did in reimagining Mr. Freeze. I’d include “Legends of the Dark Knight” because of its clever use of eras and animation styles for Batman. Catwoman is also conspicuously missing from this list (though her rescue is part of the plot of “Almost Got ‘Im”, so I’d also include The Cat and the Claw.” You also forgot to mention that The Bright Knight, Adam West, voiced Bruce’s TV hero in “Beware the Grey Ghost.”
The best episode in Batman TAS historical line is Justice League Unlimited's "Epilogue". It really brings out Batman's humanity. Brings a tear to my eye every time I watch it.
The Two Face 2 parter was perfection. Kids today can parade the joker as this poor misunderstood anti hero all they want but Harvey Dent to be the real victim of circumstance.
This is one of the series where there are way too many favorite episodes to name, but for me it will always have to be "Perchance to Dream" which brilliantly explores the dichotomy between Batman and Bruce Wayne being 2 very different individuals. The late, amazing Kevin Conroy voiced Batman, Bruce Wayne, and Thomas Wayne in that episode. "Trial" would also be on the top of my list too because it was such a fun episode that gathers a lot of Batman villains to indict the Dark Knight of the crimes he's committed to them and forcing him to ally with an anti-Batman DA who by the end comes to realize that Gotham needs him, but she still desires a city that doesn't depend on him, which Batman also agrees to.
Yes GREAT episode, haven't watched it in years but reading your comment brought it right back to me,I remember always thinking that one was especially good, knowing that batman is his true identity and Bruce is the mask he wears.Great writing, like the rest of this awesome series.
I like how in its prime this was just Batman’s world where superpowers & magic didn’t exist. Everything had a scientific basis in this Gotham. It wasn't crowded & convoluted with JL super-friends. Its characters were archetypes that were often tragic & you could take a small lesson away from each story.
For as hit or miss as some of the Batman Beyond episodes could be, when they brought Mr. Freeze out of the cold for a spell using his history from BtAS it was another brilliant use of the character. A fair number of Batman's nemeses might verge on parody but Freeze managed to step firmly into the limelight as a classic.
No 8️⃣ I especially love how overtime in other medias their platonic friendship would evolve into a romantic relationship and a much healthier one Harley's ever been in than her relationship with the Joker
Great listing - I imagine it would’ve been really tough to narrow down to 10 - Riddlers Reform, Clayface (parts 1&2), Two-Face (parts 1&2), Perchance to Dream and Appointment in Crime Alley are also fantastic episodes - The Animated Series has been a huge influence on my career, great to see a list showcasing the brilliant craft and storytelling this series gave us
#08 had a tremendous impact on DC as a whole, as it introduced one of the most beloved pairings in it's canon and eventually; one of it's greatest couples.
The Clock King is my favorite episode, I remember how cool I thought it was that his "Super" powers were his obsessive control over time itself! It was at this point in the series that I felt this episode was the most intelligent of them all!
And that says alot because this whole series was smart.people who cared about Batman and how he is handled made it,and I'm so glad it's here for me forever.
@@ArkhamsAngel13 Don't get me wrong, this series was always intelligent, it was just something about The Clock King that clicked in my mind! I really loved this show! I meant intelligent in the way he was not your typical adversary!
@morrisgautreau6704 No I got it,and i agree with you 100%,that was a great episode, after reading/commenting on what you said I started thinking about it to the point where I rewatched it from my box set(and a few more episodes)and it still absolutely holds up as samrt,well-written,and so many other positive features.the series was/is not only one if the greatest Batman shows out of many good ones to choose from, and not just a great animated series, but it's still stands as just one of the best series of ANY genre that I've ever watched.if the WB would put just some of that care into their other IP'S they wouldn't keep putting such flops out into the world.
How did you not mention the fact that the Grey Ghost was voiced by Adam West! Batman confession that he inspired him is also a line from Conroy to West!
In the Riddler ep, I could never get over the fact that Maze of the Minotaur sounded like a just *awful* game. Like it felt really obvious from the description of it that the episode was not written by anyone who plays games, because it would have gotten buried in the desert next to ET Atari
While I would say almost gott'm is one of my favorites Robin's reckoning is probably the best. Only over the edge is almost as close to perfect start telling. Though the later is a terror dream sequence it's still great. But that's just my opinion
Yup! I think it's a testament to the love of the creators because they created a villainous sidekick who fit the noir world so well despite being a 1990s creation.
My own Top 10 Batman TAS episdodes are: Beware! The Gray Ghost Joker's Favor Night of the Ninja Christmas With the Joker Zatanna Two-Face Almost Got Him! Day of the Samurai A Bullet for Bullock The Demon's Quest
Almost got em I threw a rock at him!!!! Ps might be a re-upload but I don't care. I said the same comment I said before best episode in the entire series
My favorite moment is during "Robin's Reckoning" when the Flying Graysons cut trapeze line comes into frame amongst the screams of the crowd, indicating that they've fallen. Simple but incredibly poignant.
The only one that pops in my head immediately is The Underdwellers .. it was about some non interesting 1 eyed villain, enslaving kids who are thought to be Leprechauns or something lol. Batman in My Basement was kinda meh too (the first Penguin episode) And the last Catwoman appearance. I can't remember the name of the episode.
I cannot believe that "Over The Edge" was completely left off the list. Batgirl is killed, landing on Commissioner Gordon's car after a 600+ foot fall. When Gordon unmasks the dying 13 year old girl, realizing to his great shock and horror, that the girl is none other than his daughter, Gordon goes on the rampage after Bruce Wayne. At the end, we find that most of the ep was a drug induced dream Barbara had after being gassed by the scarecrow.
2:19 I’m actually a little mad they didn’t include his dying child. There’s more than one reason he was after those two guys and why he chose the mayor’s rally to attack. When the clock company fired him, his kid was in the hospital. He couldn’t keep up with the bills and had to steal to pay for their treatment. The police, in trying to catch him, smashed into a street vendor. And tried to blame the clock king for it.
Honestly my top 3 were in the top 5 so I cannot complain I watched the heck out of the riddler vhs with that episode and was Enchanted Follow that up with seeing the whole series later I truly loved the grey ghost episode and as I was watching and those 2 episodes were listed I went well surely number 1 is Almost Got Em And my goodness you did not disappoint
