I sort mine into categories, such as clothes, misc, letters/receipts and then go through them one category at a time that way I don't get overwhelmed and only focus on each category at a time and then after I've completed them all then noticing how much I've done :') also I only keep birthday cards and Christmas cards from loved ones that are the last birthday or important birthdays such as 18, 21 etc and the only cards I keep that are every year are from people who are going to pass soon such as my nan, it keeps me from hoarding loads of cards but also having them if any family or friends happen to pass away so I have an item to reflect on, I keep all of these in a business file in the loft, that way they're not cluttering my mental space constantly but they're there if I feel I need to look at them, although I am getting more interested in the whole photograph memento photobooks concept people keep mentioning :') but then I don't want to hoard loads of photo albums over time so idk what to do 🤔
@@igshwote985 Yes, that is a great tip. I always take my time to do most things, not only decluttering. I believe in slow living - best way to go. But it is easy for me as I recently retired. Am 67. Have a good week.

One of my decluttering tips is to think "If I didn't have this and saw it in the store, would I buy it?" Also, something I said to my (very non-minimalist) mom while shopping recently was "You can admire without having to acquire." Just because something is beautiful or unique or interesting doesn't mean you need it in your life every day. I'll take a picture of an interesting find (I love browsing antique stores) if I don't want to buy the item and that's good enough for me
I’ve been the watching Sophia at “My Great Challenge. She has a really great idea this year. She has written down small decluttering jobs that she needs to do in her home. They are for the most part small jobs....ie. cleaning out a drawer, pantry, fridge, etc. She has written them on small post it notes and then folded them and put them in a jar. She videos all of these jobs and in every video she picks out a random job without looking first. Whatever the job is she does it that day. This way you are not confined to one room until it’s finished. You can complete small jobs throughout your home and you will start to see progress all over. This especially works for me as I tire easily. I am writing down jobs that will take me 10-20 minutes. When I complete a job if I feel like I can do more and have the time then I will. By doing it this way I don’t feel overwhelmed and know I will be able to accomplish each task. Sophia is calling this her D.O.C. (Declutter, organize and clean) challenge. So far I am seeing a lot of success and feel very motivated to keep going. With you and other youtubers I have plenty of inspiration and motivation. Thank you!😊❤️
Appreciate your kind comment Debbie! Glad that this can help. That's an awesome way to make decluttering, organizing and cleaning fun. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
The collection thing is really important, and a stumbling block for many in how some minimalist writers / RU-vidrs put it across. Yes, collections are fine, as long as you're selective what you collect. Most RU-vid minimalists would be horrified at the thought that I'm minimising my guitar collection down to 16. But (a) that's significantly less than the 35 it started at, and (b) I play and teach guitar for a living, so these are tools I need to do my job. They do bring me joy, and they do add value to my life. As you rightly said, the minimalist path is different for everyone. It's just about having enough. Happy Chinese New Year!
Thanks for the comment and sharing your own experience of decluttering. Totally agree with what you've mentioned and it's beautifully put. Appreciate it Martin!
My favorite part of your videos is how you speak with that more relax pace and the familiar Asian slang. The way you talked slowly really helped me to feel less anxious trying to learn minimalism
Thanks, your tips are so practical. In my own experience, I have some books which have the authors' autographs. I would surely keep them on my bookshelf. But for those which have been sitting on the shelf for years and I would definitely not turn a page for the coming year or two, send them to second hand shops or friends. Same as DVD, I have loads of them, and I sent away those which I have viewed for many times and have no particular fondness.
When I first pursued decluttering in 2019 I tried the Marie Kondo method and failed. Ultimately I wish I had started on the 30-day challenge. I'm still in the de-cluttering process. Great video as always CK Space.
I have read so many books and watched hundreds of RU-vid videos on decluttering. This video still taught me alot of good tips. I especially like the 90 day rule.
Decluttering needs time. Maybe you need months or years for it until you reach your personal goal. I try to do it bit by bit and for me its the easiest way. When I move I'll use it as a chance to really take the stuff with me I really want and need. Its the best, easiest and fastest way to declutter but not everyone is going to move. I have to when I go to university so I'll try.
Thanks for the comment Marc. That's one important point which is time and agree that moving out is one of the best opportunity to let go of things. All the best on your journey to the university.
Marc you are right. Consistency is key. I did set a reminder, every saturday at 10am to declutter for 15 minutes. sometimes i just did the 15minutes, sometimes i was more motivated and it turned into 30minutes.
I have a long way to go yet, but my aim has been to get to a monthly review. I appreciate your very helpful example, non-judgemental, I think is the difference from others. Enjoy your content.
Happy New Year from Mexico, CK! I love your videos. Your edits are super! You are one of few RU-vidrs whose videos I actually sit down to WATCH (as oppose to listen to while doing dishes), because your footage and edits are so artful. Your advice on minimalism is very practical, too. Keep up the fabulous work!
Thanks for the nice comment JoAnn. It means a lot to me that it can be something that can relate to you and help you one way or another. I'm glad that you enjoyed watching them. Will continue to work on more meaningful videos!
I've been slowly adopting more of a minimalist, frugal lifestyle. Mostly in the mind of reducing waste, but also having more time and space and less stress. Your videos are a lovely, calming way to discuss minimalism and decluttering :)) Subscribed!
Please do a video on compulsive decluttering! I love your videos. They are very peaceful, aesthetically pleasing, and the most helpful minimalist videos I've seen on RU-vid
Just recently discovered your channel. Love your content and aesthetics and the effort you put into researching! Started window cleaning after watching this! Halfway through...
Great video CK Space. I find the 1 out - 1 in rule great. Not 1 in - 1 out. Also when I buy food, clothes or whatever, I think is it a want or a need. Kind greetings from Switzerland.
Love the style of your videos 👍 Some great tips here! I am currently in the middle of the minimalism challenge for January, i love the challenge it makes you look in areas you forget about. I will use your 90 90 tip with clothes I like that tip . Thank you 😊
thank you so much for this video! amazing tips, its really important to measure the importance of bringing something new into our lives. Good leason, thanks again
Great tips esp 90/90, 20/20, and 30 day wishlist/conscious purchase. I learned a lot. Thanks. Been binge watching your vids and I make it a game thinking which items you may have wanted gone but kept as props just for making videos.
Another excellent video with real and practical tips. I really liked your point about it’s ok to have collections or a group of items like plants but to set some realistic limits on the number of items. This has definitely helped me to enjoy my items more because they don’t lost in a sea of stuff. Very impressed with you and your channel.
Thanks for sharing your tips! Can you make a video on how to take "artistic minimalist pictures" of the sentimental things we plan to let go? It would help a people alot. One of the reasons I can't get rid of my collections is that I take crappy pictures that I'd rather keep them than be stuck with an ugly picture of them. I hope you consider this suggestion & may your channel keep growing :)
Keep your ring. When you marry and have kids so much more will come into your home. Don’t get so caught up into getting rid that you won’t be able to add family in.
