I believe I picked this toe nail fungus up from a hospital. It only affected my big toe on my right foot. What worked for me is cheap and easy. 1. Purchase Original Listerine - GOLD color only. 2. Took one square of toilet paper, folded in in half and saturated it with Listerine. 3. Wrapped it around my big toe. 4 . Put a plastic sandwich bag over my right foot, anchored by a semi loose rubber band around my foot and a cotton sock over it, for 30 minutes. (You don't want to cut off circulation but rather to contain the Listerine.) 6. Later I switched to doing this (#6) at night right before I went to bed. I wanted to speed it up and not interfere with my day. The key us consistency! I have to emphasize it must be Original Listerine, the gold color. It contains thymol, a plant compound that has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It's not found in other varieties of Listerine, so the GOLD color is key. It is very effective. If you do those easy steps, consistently, you will see the fungus area turn WHITE in a week or so. That shows it is working. Keep at it. Your toe nail will grow out and it will be gone! There is no short cut that I am aware of, to instantly get rid of it. The nail has to grow out and as it grows out you are killing the fungus. It truly works! There are no side effects and it doesn't harm you. If it worked for me, and it will work for you! Doing this a night made it even easier and a longer soak with the gold colored Listerine. Also make sure you socks are always clean. Some people soak their foot in this. Since I only had one toe affected, this was the better approach for me. I understand the embarrassment of it and I'd put a band aid around that toe when I wore sandals or where my feet were exposed in public. Now, after I take a shower or have a bath, I wipe my toes with Listerine gold to make sure it never comes back! You don't have to do that, but I do it.

I use 1/2 teaspoon almond oil made for massages. Add about five drops each of clove and lavender essential oils. Apply with a Q-tip. Either leave exposed to air or put on socks after giving a few minutes to absorb. Don't put essential oils on by themselves, as concentrated it can irritate skin.

Good job Doc, offering free laser treatment. Many offices would not be able to subsidize the costs. Contrary to the views expressed here, I find this condition is frustrating and difficult to manage, in all but the milder cases. This can be so even when multi-modality treatments are used (topical and oral). The oral meds are well tolerated by most. Increasingly I am inclined to think other factors, such as diet, high blood sugar, and the immuno-comprised patient, plays large into this.

#2 is what's working for me. I damaged my right big toenail and it fell off. When it grew back it ended up with a fungus infection. I go barefoot or wear only socks on my feet unless I go out shopping. After my insurance denied paying for a $572 prescription, I happened to remember that many essential oils are anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-FUNGAL! So, I checked which EO's I have that have those properties. I mixed 2 or 3 of them with a carrier oil. I haven't used it on a several-times-a-day protocol or even daily, but the fungal infection IS actually going away and almost gone! No need to go to a doctor if you make a formula with the 3 EO's in a carrier oil listed in #2, if it works for you.

I really wish you were in florida! I have been seeing my podiatrist for over 7 years. I have had toenail fungus for going on about 10 years. He looks at it, and says nothing. He's prescribed lamisil twice, but at what cost? I was doing oregano oil, and I saw results, but he tried to tell me it was only superficial, and the Lamisil woodwork better.

My big toe on my left foot keeps growing back with fungus. I have always struggled with dry skin on just that foot. The doctor gave me anti fungal… two different kinds. It always grows back with fungus. Yellow and brittle. Sigh. I clean my shower, I have good breathable shoes, good foot hygiene.

I jumped of a roof when I was a kid and a wire clothes hanger went through my bare foot. The medics at the emergency room on base soaked my foot in iodine, scrubbed out the wound, stitched it up and gave me a bottle of iodine to soak my foot in twice a day at home for the following week. I don't think I even have a scar.
