What is he studying?! I’m thinking about doing a masters or another BA in Taiwan, preferably in English, but perhaps in Chinese too as my Chinese is almost fluent. Their are so many scholarships it seems! 🤤
Alice Shih awww thanks Alice! You made my day! I do think eating a lot more plants and reducing my make-up/ hair care products has done wonders for my life and stress levels. I have a few posts on our website if ya ever want to read them. They are old but the info is still good. Omg Taiwan’s transport system is so incredible!
Taiwan is a beautiful and friendly country also is a gourmet paradise. I hope you Will fall in love with Taiwan. I sincerely welcome you to move to live in Taiwan.
Wow, it sounds so great! You guys checked off many of things that I am looking for travelling and potentially moving. We are a vegan family with one child and Taiwan seems like a great place for us. I am looking for a place where we can get good quality fresh fruits, friendly people, safe communities, warm climate and lots of beautiful nature and hiking trails. And opportunities for work for native English speakers. Thank you for this informative and inspiring video.
Though Taiwan is safe enough but just take goooood care of yourself when wandering outside at midnight. It's always important to be aware of any thing ...
Excellent! So glad you found this vid helpful. If you have any specific questions about living in Taiwan or moving to Taiwan, always feel free to give us a shout. 😀
i just stumbled across your channel and i’m so glad 😍 i’m vegan as well & plan on moving to taiwan next year! your videos are super helpful 🙏🏽 i had no idea taipei had craigslist that will make my apartment search so much easier. thank you!!!
Very true opinions. I am from Taiwan and have been staying in the US for 10 yrs. I miss the convenience and food in Taipei a lot. And also, the health insurance in Taiwan is beyond amazing. The only thing not good about Taipei is the price of apartment is too high while the salary is too low :(
Yes, definitely agree with you on all of those points! It's always a challenge being in a foreign country where life and culture is so different from your own.
My very good friend one of my best, was born in America. Her and her family moved to Taiwan very early on in her life. She went to school there till she was in the 3rd grade and came back to America. She’ll talk about stuff that I assume is only in Taiwan that I haven’t been exposed to, and I’ll be so confused. But it’s nice to know peoples differences, it’s a good learning opportunity.
As a Taiwanese, the 10th reason really makes me laugh. One of the things I can not get used to in the USA is the price of getting a haircut. It is impossible to find a cheap option.
Health Care system is Awesome. The mountains are magestic. Living in New Taipei or Taipei you can be in unspoiled nature within an hour. Been here 21 years. Never moving home. This is home.
Yes, Taiwan is just such an amazing place. Compared to other Asian Countries they love foreigners there and don't want to exploit you or something, they just like to help. The infrastructure is great, they have black sand beaches and high beautiful mountains and it feels completely independent to China. It's like in between China and Japan, only that it's cheaper and calmer in Taiwan and people appreciate you. By far my favorite country to live in. And if you also decide to move in Taiwan and look for a place to live, check out pop-rooms.com. it makes it easy for people who don't speak Mandarin to find a cozy, homely and affordable place to stay!
I love so much about to Taipei and Taiwan. Do a video about the fish market (Aquatic Addiction) next to the vegetable and fruit market not far from the Songshan Airport. Doing a walking tour will be amazing.
Love this! Thanks for sharing! Hope that more foreigners can know better about Taiwan cos after traveling so many countries, I still love my home town the best.
Have you ever been to Philippines?.. If you go there I'm 100% sure... You will surely love it... In my experience some Taiwanese people are snobbish... But when you go to Philippines everybody even in their difficult times they are still smiling...
Also get a pre paid card called 遊遊卡(easy card) you can buy and go on public transport with the card all you need to do is pay 100 NTD 3 usd and top up any amount you wish
Taiwan's government are planning to make English as the second official language in several years. planning to hire more native English speaker oversea to be school teachers around nation. Taiwan's government hopes English can be one of major language using in daily life.
Oh interesting - that's great news! Hopefully we can all learn both Mandarin and English from each other. That would be wonderful. We hope to learn more Mandarin in the future :)
Taiwan want more and more skilled immigrant world wide can work and live in Taiwan . Taiwan nation will make big change in the future years. Everybody in Taiwan will be watching the truing point of history. From the time of Dutch ruling to today, another turning point is happening.
English as an official language is just an idea. And I will consider it as a stupid move if DPP government really take actions on this. What about Hakka and Taiwanese? What's the purpose of making English as an official language? To remove the Chinese identity? If our government really wants to welcome more foreigners to come and to live in Taiwan, they should try to make the immigration process more friendly first. And not to set up a high standard on looking for different jobs.
@@wilsonwei11 English is one of the official languages in many countries in the world like Singapore, Philippine, Malaysia, and most European countries. Language is a communication tool and it opens the world to everyone who speaks it. So why are you writing in English here since you are Chinese descent? Because you either cannot write in Chinese, or you want more people who can read your comment, right? Narrow-mindedness doesn't serve the country well.
58 and 3 years Vegan...for life. We are looking for retirement possibilities. Looking at SE Asia and South America. Thinking Taiwan might be much more expensive than Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Philippines ? Thx...great video !
Yes. Taiwan is more expensive than SE Asia but cheaper than Japan. It does not offer a retirement visa. You will have to get a job or get used to doing visa run in order to stay long term. Vietnam is a much better option for American in term of cost and ease of visa. But I still prefer Taiwan.
Its interesting, I am half-taiwanese and staying 2 months here...some points I dont agree and think its funny, to see it totally opposites xD I found it really annoying to get vegetarian food...for that you have to search for a buffet restaurant, but at the street most foods are with meat. Getting food was always a daily struggle for me. Besides I think the food is after a while all the same, not the Food Paradise like many people say. I missed the western variety I have at my hometown a lot. But you're right, taiwanese people are sooo kind, they also cooked me a vegetarian dish if they dont have it on the menu ❤. Also the public traffic in my opinion is not good, for me its sometimes bad, only in Taipei City its ok. But in my opinion you need horrible long times to get somewhere, even if the way is not that far. Also many busses are so old, loud and unconvenient. I often missed the comfort. But I also agree how safe it is...I also feel it...and the lovely people 😊
Taiwan's government has made conclusion today, starting form next year, English will become one of two official language in Taiwan nation. related laws and policy will show to public next month. Let's wait and see.
im 18 and i planned to live in taiwan for 2 month next year.... i speak very basic chinese and i barely can understand it... and i dont have a lot of money but i wanna experience Taiwan!!! im french btw!!
jui nrv Salut! I studied and lived in Villefranche when I was 18 and I adored it! that’s great you speak basic Chinese - that will get you far! You can live in much less expensive places in Taiwan than Taipei. Do it!!
You can definitely live in Taiwan with zero chinese ability, don't worry. Choosing cities like Taichung, Tainan can be much cheaper than living in Taipei.
Hi! I loved this video. I am a vegetarian and I am moving to Taiwan soon, I was so worried about the food and finding a video that said it is easy be plant based there was great! Do you have a specific video or blog of places where to eat vegan/vegetarian in Taipei?
Healthy eating .... don't eat too much red meat and if you do, try and eat organic ones... exercise, exercise, etc.. take time to take of your health and mind.
We love your place! Where can we find an apartment like yours? What district is it, and what is the rental price for it? More or less :) we are planning to move to Taipei sometime soon ✌🏻
Hi great report. How long can a u S citizen stay before having to leave? I get 3 years in the Philippines before leaving for one day and coming back for another 3 years. I saw you get 90 days but what kind of visa do you apply for? Thanks 😊
Hi guys, awesome channel! For a vegan who doesn't drink and have a reasonably calm lifestyle, what is a monthly salary you would recommend for living in Taipei?
Never heard anyone says good things about Hong Kong. In fact, listen to the first 3-4 things, all are easily accessible in Hong Kong. Everyone in the streets know English, but not everyone want to speak with tourists.
Hi Roger - yes we heard that, too! Unfortunately, we didn't get to use it while we were there so we can't speak to it for our audience. But we wish we could have :)
Hi! I so appreciate your videos. I am moving to Taichung in three weeks. I am trying to figure out the dog scene there. I will be moving my dog Arrow over in 6 months after his rabies titer. He's a 70lb collie. Are there dog parks and places for dogs to go off leash there?
Tabitha that is so exciting - you are going to have a blast. I hope the video give you some more perspective going into this experience! I will ask my friends about dogs in Taichung and get back to you. Are you going to have to put your dog in quarantine in Taiwan? We didn't bring our cats because they could have possibly been in for two months and it was sooo expensive!
Hey, I might possibly move to Taiwan for a year. Watching this video is helpful. 你们还在台湾吗?不好意思,我只知道怎么写简体字,觉得繁体字太难了(哈哈)。从你视频的时间到现在,4年过去了,所以我希望你们的中文水平提高了!对了,我也是美国人,学中文学了3年了
Bit over done! Well all but the food and easy shopping, the U.S. is owned by a few companies who control far to much And don't forget the hair cut places with black windows
Gustavo Rodriguez hi I’m sorry for the delay. It’s hard to find a job if you aren’t Taiwanese. There are a lot of restrictions without a resident visa unless you’re going to school, have a visa and can get a job. You may want to ask others since we didn’t teach there!
It does have it's challenges. We were mostly working for clients back in the US so didn't work too much in Taiwan. Your best bet is reaching out to small companies that are founded by foreigners.
Nastja Grašič no problem! Feel free to email us with any questions. Also, a lot of expats live in Da’an neighborhood! Near the universities. A place by yourself would be pricey but you could also find roommates to live with. I think there’s a Taipei roommates site on Facebook. Looking for roommates in Taipei or something similar. :)
Just curious: What part of the US are you from? By now it's probably too late for you two, but maybe somebody out there can produce a video on Taiwan from the perspective of a specific state in the US. For example, Georgia, Illinois, Washington, etc.
Gene Tsao that’s a really interesting question and one we haven’t been asked before. I grew up in Chicago, Andrew grew up in California and Singapore. We both have lived in Denver for 5 years. So we are a bit of a mix! How specifically would a POV from different states help you?
Taiwan's culture is a product of the Chinese civil war. Taiwan's food culture, likewise, is also a product of the Chinese civil war. Some aspects of the American food culture are, I believe, results of the US civil war. For example, where in the US can you find grits widely available?
