I agree, 2009 was near the beginning of the PG era but had a lot of good feuds. Randy Orton and Triple H, and CM Punk and Jeff Hardy were really good storylines.
"My Way" really was an unironically good choice for the video package of Rock vs. Austin. Heck, the song works so well, it could heighten up a WWE2K19 feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Brian Kendrick. (Thanks newLEGACYinc lol)
@@pottsie_era Bro I swear all the classmates I had form elementary school to college from the two cities I lived remember this angle, and even in circles like Twitter or RU-vid, I don’t know probably it was just my close circle that’s why I said that all that “I knew of”.
One of my earliest memories of watching wrestling is the angle between Macho Man & Rick Flair. Especially when Flair accompanied by Mr Perfect were showing off the pictures of him & Ms Elizabeth. My little mind was being blown, then immediately thinking to myself that the Macho Man's eyes might actually pop out of his head lol.
Randy Orton vs Triple H at WM25 is easily top 3 for me. The match couldn't meet expectations but the road to it was fantastic. All my friends loved the house invasion angle and Randy's psychopath persona was top notch.
I vividly remember stumbling on to wrestling as a child and watching the Triple H invasion angle, and sadly enough it’s what I credit as getting me into wrestling
WrestleMania 3 had a phenomenal build up. Half of the card was literally built up for almost an entire year. WrestleMania 17 as well, which is considered to be the greatest WrestleMania event.
I disagree: Kofimania was an unplanned moment in history. While important this wasn’t “planned”. All the ones the list were planned and done on purpose.
@@Zebojr2kool it doesnt matter if it "wasnt planned" it still happened. writers still wrote the story, the wrestlers still wrestled, and kofi was still a part of one of the best wrestlemania world title builds ever and it should have been on this list
The build to the first match was better but didn't feature the title, I don't even really remember the build to the sequel. All I can remember from around that time was everything with Rock and Punk lol.
That Daniel Bryan win was the last time I child-like celebrated pro wrasslin'. Me and my cousin watched as kids and, after a few years out, got back into it in the late 90's. But that Daniel Bryan win, man, it was like Bulldog beating Bret at Wembley or something. An actual celebration like a goal going in, haha.
the build for Rock/Austin at WM17 was beyond legendary. it encapsulated that time almost perfectly - two mega stars at the peak of the wrestling boom, the intensity, the promos, the soap opera elements, Limp Bizkit! The fact that the match itself delivered on all levels too only solidified its legacy, although in hindsight we can say the ending was a mistake. one thing WWE got very right was keeping Rock vs Austin matches only for their biggest occasions.
The Rock vs Austin for their 2nd mania match is easily the best promo package ever, with My Way playing over it, if I ever needed to sum up wrestling at its peak it’s that My Way promo
The big problem I have with the promo package is that it has almost a full minute of it is devoted to Debra and that part of it suuuuuuucks. I love the rest of it but that part makes me place others above it like the monster video for Daniel Bryan at WM30 and the running up that hill promo package for Michaels vs. Undertaker at WM26
@@VERDICTInsanity yeah that’s fair, I’m only 15 now lol but I’ve really gotten into going back and watching early 2000s wrestling because raw is so dogshit now
I thought the match build between Triple H and Randy Orton heading into WrestleMania 25 was awesome. Too much I can’t say the same about the match itself.
I still say that angle should not only have been earlier, but start with HHH immediately losing on purpose kicking Orton in the balls and beating him with a weapon. It being clear he only cares about vengeance and is going to make sure Orton doesn't get to have the title as he planned by ending his career or at least hurting him enough to have to vacate it. The match then proceeds as a very violent unsanctioned hardcore match with Orton effectively trying to KO HHH before HHH ends his career. The affair ending with Orton getting so hurt he has to vacate the title and take a little time off, coming back later for revenge. That would have been fantastic and show a dark permutation of the Game outsmarting the situation.
@@JungleBunkRootsMusic2022 something maybe just a simple street fight it was never going to be able to outdue taker and HBK but it’s better than rest holds at the 3rd hour
I'll never forget that Hogan vs Warrior face off at the Rumble for as long as I live. I remember I was with my dad and we went to a friend of his place who had orded it on pay-per-view. The guy's dad was also there and for a good section of the actually rumble the grown ups all went to the kitchen to have some beers and chat. Then that happened and I yell "It's Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior!" And the three of them come running back into the room going "WHAT?!" and just stared with me in disbelief at what was happening.
Honorable mentions: HBK vs The Undertaker at WM26. Quite possibly one of the finest piece of modern day WWE storytelling. HBK vs Kurt Angle at WM22. Both men showed respect but tried to constantly one up eachothers craft. Also...Sexy Kurt
Sorry youngsters but this old man has wrestlemania 1 on the list. The build up to Hogan MrT vs Piper Orndorff was epic. All be it nobody knew how big it would've turned into. It had everyone buzzing with anticipation. From Ali guest outside ref to Billy Marten time keeping to snuka/Orton at ringside. It was very well orchestrated! Just an old man opinion.
Seeing Rock/Austin II in the top three would’ve been enough, but to see the main event in what’s still my favorite WM at the number one spot was great. It was just a month, but(as you mentioned) the sit down interview, then the execution of each other’s finishing moves in the following weeks, & that very aggressive beer toast was just an awesome way to boil over aggression in a main event between the two hottest faces of the company.
Daniel Bryan's journey FORCED the hand of WWE management and the fear that a HUGE number of fans would've left viewing the programs of the company and watch other things more at the time.
@@BabyKnukleDustr Yeah? Or they could've done the "If Triple H gets disqualified or counted out he loses the title" & have Randy win the title by provoking Hunter.
i'm only seconds in to this video, but if rock v stone cold X7 is number 1 and we all know it. nothing else can compare to the JUST ONE.... video package alone. it's been TWENTY YEARS but i still get so crazy hyped from that video package.
No Kofimania seriously? No women's triple threat mIn event build match was underwhelming but that build was HYPE and now both are old part timers but around from SS16 to WM 33 Brock bs Goldberg had awesome build and there was electric atmosphere for that match.
So... did Cultaholic just forget that several weeks of the X-7 build revolved around The Rock being forced to have Debra as his manager? Seriously, all time great video hype package aside, the build for that match was wildly inconsistent. Honestly I would say the lead up to their first match at WM15 was better.
Say whatcha want about Cena vs. Rock, the build up (to both matches) was damn amazing. Cena remains the only one to actually 'Game Over' The Rock cause of his unparalleled ability to blur the line between reality and the show.
Conviniently not mentioning the stupid addition of Debra to the Rock/Austin build seems like a good way to avoid saying that it wasn't perfect. But even still, if you cut her out then it is a perfect build. So at least there's that.
I know, I know; Chris Benoit did not go out like a man; but how is his Wrestlemania XX match build with Shawn Michaels & Triple H not on this list? Seriously? Am I the only one?
what about cena vs rock mania 29? the first year, they went months trash talking which was very entertaining and then cena lost and basically lost every ppv match. Then he won the royal rumble to get his redemption. Also Michaels vs Undertaker mania 26. That whole thing was a good build up.
I disagree on this. It could've been a good build but Cena's talk about it being a year of hell meant nothing when any setback he faced he took with a smile and a positive attitude like he always had. If he'd have shown any kind of negative reaction at all to the losses, it might have meant something.
Didn’t JBL pull the same anti straight edge story line on CM Punk prior? That seemed to water it down and Punk didn’t often seem engaged in his feud with Jericho IMO
How is Edge vs Undertaker not on this list. Edge made you feel he could break the streak and everything he did week after week made it seem like he had found the Undertaker's weakness
