Been watching MMA On Point for about 6 years and this might be the team's best work. Tommy's tone in the beginning of the video quoting Drake had me in stitches 5 seconds in and the People Just Do Nothing cameo was absolutely top notch in context. Cheers lads.
Damn i just started watch recently, but yea this was a really good video usually i look through comments while watching but this one was 0:00-16:16 interesting subject
You guys underestimate Dana's wealth he don't have to collect personally of course, you know he employees a roster of killers for money already right, who would gladly go collect for 10% Do you get the point?
Folks always talk about how “violent” and “dangerous” mixed martial arts is compared to boxing… yet on average 13 boxers a year die due to ring related injuries (3 amateur and 10 professional) and the numbers have been fairly consistent in the modern era… since the inception of mixed martial arts (tracked since 1994) there have been 16 octagon related deaths… TOTAL. Amateur and pro… in over 20 years. Also… CTE cases are OVERWHELMINGLY higher in former boxers compared to MMA fighters. And the UFC, the largest MMA promotion in the world, since their implementation of weight classes and unified rules… have actually never had someone die due to Octagon related injuries.
Yep. It's a lot less disruptive for the brain to get KO'd by a couple of hard shots in a 15-25 minutes-long fight, than to get hit dozens of time per round with extra-padded gloves in fights that last 30-40 minutes. And in boxing you get a 10 count, which means the punishment gets unnecessarily extended. Add grappling and submissions, and no wonder MMA is far less likely to give you CTE than boxing. Hell, bicycling, basketball, baseball and American football are more likely to give you brain damage than MMA.
I also would like to remind boxing fans that bare knuckle boxing belongs to your sport, not MMA. There are no kicks, submissions or takedowns. It's 100% boxing. That crowd is likely the worst in all of sports. So keep that in mind when we talk about savagery.
The irony of the Darren Rovell situation is hilarious. Everything he said about Nunes (who I consider to the the female GOAT) has turned out to be true. Hell, even the UFC marketed Ronda at the expense of Nunes in their fight.
UFC 224 (Nunes vs. Pennington) and 215 (Nunes vs. Shevchenko 2) have the lowest Pay-Per-View buys for a championship main event since UFC 38 in 2002 so Rovell might have a point about Nunes' star power, especially compared to Rousey's (even after her defeat by Holm).
Dana is the villain that every loves. He can be a piece of shit but he can also be the one who also always has the most logical explanation for shit. I honestly don’t know if I should hate him or like him.
The fact that Frank Shamrock and Fedor Emelianenko are not and likely never will be in the UFC hall of fame shows that it, much like the wwe hall of fame, is not a real indicator of who actually matters in the history of the sport but it's rather just a shelf for the petty, grudge holding, thin skinned, overly powerful boss to collect action figures of his favorite pets.
I have never in my life, and I am no spring chicken, ever heard someone say that "The people in the audience, wear tattoos." I found it hilarious, and this old guy's rant was like something from the 50s, when the world wasn't so tolerant of different issues haha. It was like going back in time :p From now on, when people ask how many tattoos do I have, no longer will I just give a number, I will be saying "I wear 44 tattoos." Loved it haha
The sports editor for the Daily Telegraph (I think, or Courier Mail maybe), Australia's biggest daily paper used to be a vocal campaigner against the UFC. IIRC he went to Hunt vs. Bigfoot then wrote a whole op-ed about how the sport was too brutal and should be banned. They had a banner on their sports page for ages declaring that they would never cover it. These days they tend to give it more press than any other news outlet in the country, hah. How the turntables...
I love John McCain, a man who dropped firebombs on people and helped propogate an illegal invasion of a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, called MMA bloodsport. He's certaintly a figure of authority in that regard
@@veritas4364in the sense of international law there are some valid casus belli. It's all kinda arbitrary and not enforced. But for example the first gulf war was entirely legal. Sadam invaded Kuwait and was condemned by the UN. They had to withdraw. When sadam didn't desert storm happened. For this reason it was entirely legal to invade Iraq. The second Iraq war is viewed differently due to knowingly lying about the preemptive self defense argument. The whole WMDs shitshow. The idea of the legality of war is kinda murky. Since international law is not the same as something like the US justice system.
Poor Frank Shamrock. He literally was the first MMA fighter, and can't even get his name on UFC Hall of Fame. Master at both ground and stand-up wrestling, as well as well developed striking. Light years ahead of his time. Nobody even understood to cover all as aspects of fighting before he started mixing things up.
The only reason that No Name McCain was coming down so hard on mixed martial arts back then was because he was getting plenty of "campaign contributions" from the boxing promoters. If you follow the money, it all makes quite a bit of sense.
@@TheEmbalmer13 that’s because other companies don’t have the UFC’s scale. Dana really doesn’t pay enough when you take in paying your trainers, the gym they train at, nutritionist, manager, etc etc..
@@bricktop. we like having all the best fighters under one org and not losing talent to Bellator or PFL because they offer them better pay. Besides, they train their asses off and work for a billion dollar promotion owned by a billion dollar company that is screwing up other investments. They should be payed their worth and not suffer because WME can't invest. Just because you're a broke bum doesn't mean they should be.
Say what you want about him but we'll miss Dana when he is gone. He worked a lot to get MMA/UFC into the mainstream and turn the sport into what it is today.
Still amazes me everytime I see all the trials mma had to go through to get where it is today. Slander, stigma, the entire boxing business, politics, and straight up being illegal almost everywhere at first. Now almost every champ becomes a household name, contenders are becoming some of the biggest stars in all sports, and espn is repping the ufc. Fucking wow
Maybe hockey players are overpaid? Haven't sports athletes always seemed ridiculously overpaid. Getting millions upon millions for getting a ball over a line or getting a puck in a little area.. maybe the UFC just pays more realistic seeing debuting or unknown fighters aren't bringing in big money for the company.
@@salbonpensiero1704 You're missing the point and being obtuse on purpose. Almost all sports leagues (including other MMA promos) pay their athletes 40% of revenue. The UFC pays them 18%. You don't see a problem with that? You don't see a problem with the UFC essentially carrying WME's profits for the last three years and them still deciding that their prospects are ok being payed at or below poverty level salary? They're a billion dollar company not following industry standards. Paddy got paid 12k/12k for his last fight as a big prospect. What's the matter with you? No one's asking them to be paid millions like bigger sports leagues, we just want them to be paid a living wage for being in the premier MMA promo and we don't want ranked fighters like Uriah Hall having to work full time jobs in retail or Norma Dumont having $50 in her bank account.
Well with the NHL and other non combat sports, they actually play way more than mma fighters. I'd like to see an actual break down of time played vs how much they get.
I'm not surprised about No.1, considering how the UFC treats their fighters I wouldn't be surprised the Fertitta Brothers are not popular with food workers as well and probably treat their staff bad as well. This feud was stupid, but I can't blame them.
I don’t like Jake Paul by any means. Trust me. Not a fan of either of those brothers. But I mean, I seriously can’t deny anything he’s said about the UFC and fighter pay.
MMA is for beer drinkers, boxing is for everybody! Beer drinkers, vodka chuggers, tequila swiggers, wine-o’s and flat out alcoholics & drug addicts, EVERYBODY! Even if they “wear tattoos”.
#1 is some evil, corporate shit. “Our employees don’t want to organize.” Yeah right. Too bad Sheldon Silver was a scumbag, but good thing NY can host UFC now. It’s a tricky situation.
Rovell was on point about Nunes. She isn't very marketable so obviously she isn't a good headliner like Rousey. Just like when Dana was fuming about JDS beating Cain. Cain was their guy to help them push into Mexico.
Seems like every beef Dana ever has he is actually saying "I hate you right now but if you wanna do business then I'm down". Why hasn't golden girl taken advantage of that yet? Lol
