01:21 🍞 Avoid "naked" carbs, like toast with jam or fruit juice, as they cause significant blood sugar spikes. 02:29 🥑 Cover carbs with fat, protein, or fiber (e.g., Greek yogurt on cake) to slow down glucose absorption and reduce spikes. 04:06 🍳 Opt for a savory breakfast (e.g., omelet instead of pancakes) to avoid blood sugar spikes; fruits should be consumed whole. 06:10 🚫 Avoid coffee on an empty stomach to prevent blood sugar spikes, as caffeine can impact adrenaline production. 06:53 🍽 Sequence food consumption: Veggies first, proteins/fats second, and starches/sugars last to potentially reduce spikes by 20-30%. 09:08 🍴 Eating slower and taking breaks between courses can reduce blood sugar spikes, especially in carb-heavy meals. 11:27 🍰 Consume sweet foods as dessert after a balanced meal with fiber, protein, and healthy fats to moderate blood sugar spikes. 13:30 🥄 Drink vinegar before meals (or include in salad dressing) to potentially reduce glucose spikes by about 10-15%. 14:54 🍔 Stop obsessing over calorie counting; focus on food quality and impact on blood sugar levels instead. 16:05 🚶 Move after eating to help muscles absorb glucose; for insulin-dependent diabetics, consider pre-bolusing (injecting insulin before meals) based on CGM trends.

These sorts of ACME general guidelines are just concepts for people who don't actually have Diabetes at all, are very new to being diagnosed with it, or are Type 2....which to be honest isn't even close to the same illness. Type 1 is deadly serious, and is based on having a non functional pancreas. IE: a vital organ that doesn't work. Made up for by taking synthetic insulin, which has quite it's own number of issues. But it's that or death, and fast....so you take it. That said, it's incredibly complex to manage as time marches on. The things you mention, most Type 1 people have always done. Because if they didn't, they'd probably be dead or missing limbs years back by now. That said, I usually find the people with so much advice to give are usually the people least qualified to say anything about it at all. Minus guys like Tom on this channel, who is truly Type 1, and talks about all the realities of it. He gives really good advice and things to try. As others have said, nobody is exactly the same. So some things work for some of us and not others. I love Tom's channel. Thanks for doing it Tom! I've been asked for years to do something similar or teach newbies at a hospital how to cope, manage, deal with the emotional and mental challenges of it all, etc. Because I've worked very hard and figured a lot of things out over decades. But alas, I'm not quite as courageous in that department as Tom to be in the limelight with it.

@ArqaDeaTribe incorrect.. there are type 2 diabetics who are insulin dependent and also have exactly the same seriousness as type 1.. we are a minor group which is more like a 1.5 .. My pancreas no longer produces its own insulin .. and never will again.

Hach #7 has been a game changer for me. I would drink 2 cups then drive to work then eat breakfast. My stress level was already high before starting work, everyone iritated me, and I would have a wicked crash in the afternoon. I now drink coffeE after eating breakfast. No more afternoon crashes, much less stress, and my BP has gone down.

The problem with taking your insuline 10-20 minutes before you eat is that you are not guaranteed to eat what’s on your plate, so it’s a big risk for hypoglycaemia

I found Jesse’s hacks including the injecting insulin about 10 minutes prior to meal the best thing that has worked for me. I have also gone a little further by including cruciferous vegetables (eg broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) with every meal.. if I’m making stews, casseroles or curries I cut the veggies in big chunks and place them in the pot for the last 10mins cooking time so that it steams and easily pick out when serving. Eating extra vegetables has really been a game changer for my diabetes and jesse’s hack helped even more..
@_Mikekkk
@_Mikekkk 11 месяцев назад
You need only 1 hack = zero carbs in your diet. Go for keto or carnivore diet and forget about your diabeties forever. I almost do not eat any fruits/vegetables, I eat meat, fish, eggs, butter and my blood sugar is the same before and after meals nice and stable. My body weight is perfect.
@jeffchastain2977
@jeffchastain2977 8 месяцев назад
Injecting insulin 10 or even 15 minutes before eating is not a hack. It's something that has been recommended to Type 2s for years. But one caveat: If you are eating out, make sure you don't inject your meal bolus before the server takes your order AND you ask your server how the kitchen is doing as related to time. If he or she says your order is going to take a while(explain to them why you are asking), then wait until you actually get your food to inject. I had a difficult time once when a favorite restaurant that normally served dinner about 20 minutes after ordering, didn't serve my dinner for almost 40 minutes after I took my dinner shot. I was going low, fast.

I recently discovered your RU-vid channel and I really appreciate the free content. I’ve found it very helpful as a type 2 diabetic. I really wanted to book a 45 min consultation with you Tom but the $199 USD fee was a financial issue for me. I know you’re not offering medical advice and your time and is valuable of course but this fee is even more than what a medical specialist would charge for an initial consultation. This is so crazy that I found this video. I was researching BGR from Duncan Hines Keto cake mix. Being a RU-vid creator sometimes I just don’t have time to mix up my own so I’ve started using it lately in mug cakes. My BG didn’t seem to budge, even eating a couple crumb cake cupcake’s after my latest recipe. That brings me to my modifier, heavy whipping cream which added FAT!! Now have to make the recipe both way and see what show up on my cgm😊 Thanks for the excellent info

Tom, thank you so much for all your information. My first husband was diabetic, so I am familiar with it, and at the age of 45, I developed severe reactive hypoglycemia. So need to follow the same diet, watch my blood sugars, etc. Medicare won’t pay for a CGM for me, but your vid’s convinced me that it would be money well spent to pay for one on my own instead of continuing to live in fear of another seizure from low blood sugar. I found Jesse a few months ago, also, and I don’t follow all her hacks, but through trial and error have figured which ones work the best for me. Between that, and the information you have, I have been able to slowly get back out into the real world again. Thank you so much for all your hard work !

Thank you very much. I have the e-book version of Jessie's "Glucose Revolution" book but I very much liked hearing your thoughts. I don't have Type one or Type two diabetes, but I do know the importance of monitoring and managing blood sugar for everyone. Jessie's 10 hacks made great sense to me, but it's reassuring to me that a very knowledgeable and articulate person with Type one diabetes (you) also sees the 10 hacks as legit and valuable. I also very much appreciated your review of all of the CGM's. In the near future I'll a CGM for a month too and really see how what I eat and how I eat it translates into my blood glucose levels. Nice job! Great content.

I have to disagree on the vinegar at this point in time. Being a research scientist I have read many papers on this and some studies say it works, some studies say it doesn't work and some studies are inconclusive. So do it if you wish, but the science does not support it at this time. There is a theory that the people who do gain a small benefit from drinking vinegar feel that it helps. In other words it's a placebo but there is nothing wrong with a placebo because of placebo, if you believe it works, will lower your stress level. This lowers cortisol which can affect the uptake of insulin. Stress can help produce sugar spikes. This is not proven by studies yet as it's just a theory. But more and more stress seems to be able to aggravate more and more medical conditions. And let me emphasize that there is nothing wrong with the placebo effect. If it works, great.

Hurray you’re back 😁 A lot of these I’ve been doing through trial and error from my own “errors”. I ditched cereal for breakfast, for a while I’ve been having kefir, raspberries and blueberries. I then wait 1/2 hour and have a slice of whole grain toast. I always eat some greens with my lunch niece I typically have Cous Cous with mackerel or any oily fish, with spinach and red onion and other bits. We always have salad with our evening meal, tonight we’re having pork, salad, and baby potatoes, I’ll apply the order you suggested to eat that meal. I’m not a sweet tooth but I’ve found the best ice cream hitch hardly spikes me (I know you love ice cream 😂), it’s Carte Dore, Light. It’s 11g carbs per 100ml, low sugar too. I’ve started bolusing a lot earlier too. These past 3 weeks on my Libre 2 target has not dropped blow 90%, I’ve even achieved 100% for a few days which has blown me away 👍🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Today I’m at 99%. Ive also really lowered my carb intake so I don’t need as much insulin now. It’s working so far and I enjoy the food I eat.

@Vegan-Ish73 You are correct. Our body, brain etc need sufficient clean carbs, unless one wants hypoglycemia and pass slam the hell out. Not what I want.

Dude, you are the greatest. Traditional (Braziian savory free) breakfast is our killer. Yet changing it for LITTLE savory, will let us hungry and craving enough to ''face'' a big starch free salad with preffered proteins at lunch, with great pleasure. oR JUST START your day nutrition with an early starch poor lunch. This hack is also magnificent for weight control. Hate hotels with breakfast included, lol

Thanks for the video. I always drink coffee with unsweetened almond milk in the morning. I have my savory breakfast around 12. Almost always within range until 4-5 am. "clothingc coffee with milk saves my morning. Give it a try

I knew about these techniques from other RU-vidrs so nothing is new. The only thing that is is that the info is being presented by a diabetic. That is new and a billion times more relatable. You made a good point that I totally overlooked. She and the others don't have this disease. My A1c is at 5.4 (T2 and on no meds) and I still get spikes up to 180. They come back down but they shouldn't go that high. I think the hacks work for a while and the body gets used to it. The results I saw before don't seem to be happening now.

My a1c is 5.7 and no Spikes. Fasting 100-110. Doesn't make sense why my a1c is that high

@@nickbardan3867Don’t forget that stress can be a “silent” factor that everyone tends to overlook. It’s effects vary, so it’s hard to control. I’m T1 for 58+ years on pump therapy since 1985 and cgm since 2017, now with IQ control. I always say, if striving for a low average, then into every life there will be some highs and lows-that’s what makes averages! Best of luck.

From the list- lm inclined to agree with 2 points. The rest I think would be tempting for someone who wants to be disciplined with food. Good information for someone who doesn’t have blood sugar sugar trying to watch their weight or have a balance with food. Not so much with someone with elevated glucose.

One thing I learned is that to have your level @ 4-4.5 before eating. That will help. So 2 hours before I eat I check my glucose level and if it is high, I'll try to get it lower. If I start off eating and I am high it only stands to reason that my sugars will only go higher.

🌼Tom, I've been following your videos for several years and I continue to do so, as your info is so helpful. Thank! . 🍁I must add, THIS is the most important and helpful video you've ever made!!! 🌿 ANY Diabetic who is tired of reading all the tips, tired of learning that they must do this or that, can easily follow this video. Your tip at the end, about pre-bolusing is so incredibly powerful, I hope everyone watches this video & shocks their doctor the next time they get their A1C test. I shared it with my friend who's 7-year-old niece is a new diabetic, type 1. ✨✨✨ Please continue to make your videos, we are all healthier because of you. 🌞 ps I try to keep my A1C between 4.7 and 5.1 🌺
