California is full of incredible state parks and state historic parks. For this video, I just wanted to focus on some of my favorite state historic parks in California (even though I haven't been to all of them). These parks have historical or cultural significance to the state and add to the diversity of what California has to offer. Let me know what I left off in the comments and I hope to visit all of them one of these days.

Fort Ross outside of Jenner, CA that explains the amazing connection old CA had with Russia from 1812-1841. It’s sort of stunning to see this huge fortress as you are driving hwy 1 along the Mendocino coast. It’s an amazing piece of history. The Presidio in Santa Barbara is small but the fact it’s in the center of town built around it makes that a great place to check out. They rebuilt it from scratch the way it was originally built with actual Adobe bricks from clay soil from Santa Barbara. It was fascinating watching them reconstruct it

Great suggestions, I have been to the Presidio, but never Fort Ross. Sounds awesome and I will have to add it to the list!

And, I think the botanical garden is second to none. Plus, there's the petroglyph just off Camino Cielo.

I was just trying to remember what fort is north of Bodega Bay and I open the comments of this video lol. I heard of it recently and have been to Bodega Bay many times. Now I'm really interested in learning the history.

I recommend Fort Humboldt State Historical Park in Eureka. It has some well preserved buildings from the time that a young army lieutenant named Ulysses Grant was stationed there. They also have displays about pre-colonial history and the local timber heritage.

We spend a lot of time fishing the Eastern Sierras so when it was slow on one trip, we visited the Bodie ghost town. It was a unique area and very crowded that day. The drive in and out was so dusty I decided to check my air filter and was I surprised! I've done my share of off roading in my youth and this was equivalent to that!

Anderson Marsh SHP is one of my favorites. Honestly, there's not a lot of 'historical' content there, basically just an old farmhouse and some outbuildings so it probably didn't have a shot at making the list, but it's awfully pretty and absolutely full of life. There's lots of flowers and birds to see, and at the right time of the year it has wild grapes growing along the edge of the river trail. I found a gorgeous gopher snake there once, too, that must have been over 6 feet long. I'm also a little surprised there aren't any more gold rush era parks on your list (though Empire Mine was definitely an interesting visit). Malakoff Diggins, Columbia, and the Marshall Gold Discovery SHPs would have been good additions.

Very good. Your kids are LUCKY to have such an interesting dad. I've visited all but the Eagle Mine. And, you have only scratched the surface. Keep it up. You could do a mission tour and compare and contrast. As I think about it, you may get me into a lot of trouble. My kids only let me drive short distances for groceries and medical appointments. Now I'm planning an escape.
