How can you forget Bic lighters. They last forever (not the fuel), these lighters themselves and they are dirt cheap to keep a set in the house. I also bought a Nitecore NWE30. It is an alarm system that you can turn on if you're trapped in a car or collapsed building or you're stuck in a ditch or something. Whistles are great, but that uses up your energy, energy that is needed in most of those disastrous situations.

Great suggestions. One small issue but a important issue non the less. You are using filter and purify interchangeably. Filters pull out bacteria, vs purifying kills it all to include viruses. In most of the United States, a filter like the sawyer, works well. In areas one might find viruses, a bandana to filter the bigger stuff, and follow it up with steripen to uv purify it would be a great option. Thanks for a great video!

Don't forget good pair of hiking shoes and good pairs of trail socks because your feet will start to hate you after walking 20km in runners. Water Filter, Food of preference, shelter, tarps tents, fire starting, lighter- Ferro rod, both a good knife and a multi tool, flashlights, headlight, lantern, power bank/ power station, emergency radio. A good backpack for sure. There's an endless list of stuff you could use, you just need to figure out what you need to have with you in the certain scenario you are in. I try to cover as many areas as I can with different things and eventually I try to get the highest quality in each thing I can and so on. Then use the extras in go bags or vehicles etc

The best emergency radio is the Kaito Voyager KA500L. It`s best to get a small folding solar panel with USB outputs to charge them though. You can get them cheap on Amazon if you look for deals regularly. I found a 22 watt double USB folding solar panel yesterday for seven dollars and several smaller wattage ones for under 15. I also bought a 30 watt panel for 28 dollars and a 19 watt one for 23. Just search for "folding solar panel" and then choose "Under $25" in the options on the left.

For health reasons, I can't really go camping anymore. But I've kept all my gear, and I've even added to it, because I live in an area without family around to help, and I don't drive anymore. So while everybody's carrying on about zombies and bugging out, my reality is a bugging in situation. It's good really, because I would need an RV to carry all this gear and include my pantry. So here are some of the things I've added to my supplies. A solar shower. I didn't want one or need one in all the years I went camping, but if I can heat water without using fuel to do it, that means I can clean myself, wash dishes, etc just by hanging that in my kitchen window over my sink. Thanks to all we've learned with COVID, I have put those cheap single use rain ponchos in with my first aid gear, along with the gloves and masks I already had, to use as PPE. I have a radio / flashlight that also has the NOAA weather band, with a built-in power bank. To charge it there is a solar panel, a mini USB cable, along with a hand crank. I also have two other power banks with flashlights, one in my EDC, and one in my camping gear that has a solar panel. All three are 10, 000 mah. When my sister-in-law moved from the Midwest to Florida, she had ample camping gear, but I found her just a hand crank charger for her phone. And the first time they lost power because of a hurricane, she was the only one around that could keep her phone charged and get the information she needed. Last year I found myself coaching Texans who had never gone camping on how to stay warm. It's one of the reasons I keep a dome tent. And conveniently my dome tent will either sit on the floor, or on top of my bed which is where I spend most of my time anyway. Having a smaller area to heat means I can do it efficiently. And I've done it in cold temperatures outdoors just using my body heat and a couple of UCO single candle lanterns. Regular camping I have a Pur water filter that will do a significant amount and has a hand pump. For individual use, I have a sawyer squeeze. For my day to day life I have taken one of those three gallon beverage dispensers that you see advertised in summertime for family reunions and such, and I've rigged it with a Brita filter. Keeping a Brita pitcher full, means you have to wait a lot of times, especially if you need to filter the water you're using to cook with as well. This way I have a 3 gallon reserve, and because I use it daily the water is always kept fresh. And of course I have my water preps, using gallons that I've stashed in corners here and there, along with several 5 gallon bottles that are generally used for water coolers. I have both a hand pump and a USB rechargeable pump, and the brother picture insert also fits in the top of that bottle. So when I need to refill it, I can fill it and filter it as I go. It's also very beneficial to invest in one of those really large rolls of plastic wrap like you see it Costco or Sam's club. I call it my lifetime supply roll. LOL. It can be used for a lot of different things, waterproofing, insulation, but in a bad situation rather than washing dishes, place plastic wrap over your plate or bowl first. When you're done eating, just peel it off. Also for that matter, use chopsticks when you can. When you're done eating, wipe them off to remove any food debris, which would be pretty microscopic. Then keep a small spray bottle like you see in the trial size section, mixed with vinegar and water. Use that to rinse off & sanitize your silverware or your chopsticks, rather than gathering enough water to immerse them in. If you're afraid of the vinegar taste lingering, or the smell for that matter, use hydrogen peroxide instead. You can buy hydrogen peroxide at the dollar store that's already in a spray bottle, and once it's done with the foaming action, the hydrogen peroxide just becomes water. Make yourself a soda can alcohol stove. It burns efficiently, the alcohol won't go bad no matter how long it's stored, and a little bit goes a long way. I have a homemade alcohol stove, a purchased alcohol stove and I can use either on my old school Sterno stove, my esbit stove, or with this next item.... Hit the thrift stores and the yard sales if you don't have one already, but you can't go wrong with a fondue pot. You can use the can of Sterno, an alcohol burner, or even an old school buddy burner that has corrugated cardboard spiraled in it and topped with paraffin wax. You can cook in the fondue pot, boil water in the fondue pot, or even just use the stand to put a frying pan on it. It's very versatile and accommodating especially for one or two people. And instead of spending all that money on freeze dried food, instead of putting them in a container in the back of the refrigerator where they'll eventually get fuzzy and need to be thrown away, put them on a dehydrator. You can find them every once in awhile at a thrift store or yard sale. I actually picked one up for $5 from a yard sale. I have another friend who has a gas stove, and she just uses the pilot light in her oven to do all her dehydrating. They have an electric stove you can use the warm setting, and if it's too warm just wedgé the door open a little. If you live somewhere like Florida or Arizona where you have lots of sun and lots of heat, make yourself a solar dehydrator. (And look up how to make yourself a solar oven.) I live by myself cook for one, if I opened up one of those big old cans of baked beans, instead of eating it for 3 days in a row, I put the rest of the can on my dehydrator. So there's two more meals that all I have to do is boil water and stir. Homemade chili, spaghetti, stew, etc. Why pay $8 for one serving of somebody else's spaghetti that you may or may not like, when you already know you like yours. Get yourself some Vaseline and cotton balls put it all together in a Ziploc bag and knead them with your hands for a few minutes to get the Vaseline spread everywhere. They are the best fire starters! However, for emergency conditions, get some of those trick birthday candles, the kind that if you blow on them they'll relight themselves. It's the perfect answer to a windy day when you're trying to get your tinder lit. That's it for me, I can't wait to read the rest of the comments! As always thanks for the videos!

Lighters run out or get lost, so I just use my fire flint..I stick to water purification tablets, because filters stop working after a while. I have a good quality head torch so I can use both hands, and take extra batteries. It works as a lamp in the tent and a torch outside the tent. And I always take a good first aid kit.

I've had a Coleman multifuel stove for years, which was sadly underutilized due to the lack of camping opportunities. I've often wondered if getting it was even a good idea (it was a trade), but I was reassured when you mentioned it here so prominently. And why, you ask? Because I was caught up in that Texas Freeze: my own power was not out long, but a friend's was, and I had to "host" someone for several days. So I know very well, what you're talking about.
@fakenews7266

Any Coleman white gas stoves will run on unleaded the multi-fuel ones are a marketing gimmick the same goes for the lanterns , I have 45 lanterns and 18 stoves from 1919 to the ones sold today , I run them all on unleaded gasoline with no problems . The only difference is the silver paint and the markup on the multi-fuel ones , I have converted a few lanterns to run on white gas , unleaded , diesel , and kerosene , the stoves I just run on unleaded because it is easier to find and way cheaper than the white fuel

Many flashlights, lanterns (and headlights) can be charged thru a USB connection AND a built in solar panel. I always keep them charged thru the USB connection; I recharge them at least once a year because when the grid goes down, you do want your lanterns and flashlights charged. The built in solar panels become useful when the grid stays down for a long time.

I don't do multi-tool. I have had them at times since I was young and never end up using it. I don't end up where I need those things. Out in the woods I only really need my knives (smaller and bigger knife) and folding saw and maybe even my auger for building a shelter or chair or something out there in _the great outdoors._

I just found rechargeable hand warmers on Amazon. I didn’t know such a thing existed! I’m going to be buying two for my husband for Christmas, so he can use them as he goes out hunting (put one in each pocket, and switch out which hand is in the pocket so the other hand can hold the rifle). I think these rechargeable hand warmers will be an EXCELLENT prep for a vehicle emergency bag, or in case the power goes out, not to mention just practical every day here in Idaho. I also wanted to give a shout-out for the LuminAID lantern. I kept waiting for you to turn yours on, but you didn’t. It’s got a beautiful light, though, and I’m just in love with mine. Thanks for the great video!

Check out the heated jackets as well they are great for hunting as well I have a milwakee one that uses the tool batteries. As for rechargeable hand warmers the battery life is usually short. They make hand warmers that use lighter fluid zippo makes a large and smaller one, they are great for longer hunting trips as they don't need to be charged just fill with zippo lighter fluid and the small one burns for 8 hours and puts out more than twice the heat of the rechargeable ones

I don't really need my solar power pack, but I do use it for my phone and my Bluetooth speaker, which has micro SD card slot in it, so I don't really use the Bluetooth feature to play my music. Thing is, I use it when I'm in the shed relaxing or at the fire pit in the yard and don't like to bring it back in the house to plug it in. I just use the solar battery pack and I can keep playing my music while the speaker charges up.

Newbie too. I feel like if we are watching the walking dead the propane tanks will only run until they don't. I think thats for ppl who arent comprehending the shtf totality. I ordered a firestarter and some of the lil packs of firestarter pouches. I feel like those will be good to have but once they run out we still need to start a fire with elements from nature. A person in the comments said he heats his home with wood. He stated a 1lb propane n torch last him through the winter without trying. Idk what i do know is im scared not of a zombie apocalypse (though that im for sure prepared for lol) but of wanting to protect n take care of my parents. Glad tidings sister Marcella. Assalamu alaykum peace be unto you.😊

Use iso butane stoves, because they are lighter weight and way more efficient than propane. Also the sawyer mini that you showed for a water filter has an atrociously slow flow rate of water. The regular sawyer squeeze has a much better flow rate and it is only marginally larger

I have an old two burner Kerosene burning Coleman stove. Works great. Have been taking it out truck camping truck for years. All I have to do to use it in the house is keep it outside on the patio or in front of an open draft, like the patio door-no problems. I also have a Kerosene lantern, but it's only good for outside; too dangerous with those mantles burning. Propane refills are expensive as is a new stove, even a one burner. So I'll stick with this. I will, however, look for an in house rechargeable lantern. Don't have money to buy all new stuff.

I prefer chemical glow sticks for lighting when the power goes out. They will last all night and I put then in the stairwells, where you need light. After the sun goes down, you go to bed, so you won't need any lantern in the house.

For safety always remember to use a propane burner outdoors or in a ventilated area. It is not recommended that they be used indoors. For example in a power outage it’s best to take it outside, or open your garage and use it in there. If it isn’t safe to use outdoors as in a severe storm, maybe it won’t be an option for you.

As good as these are you need a wind screen, you need a measuring device to measure the amount of gas left in the cylinder, you need an alternate method if you are not near a walmart, or sporting good store. At least with sterno if you run out of fuel you can refill the can with hand sanitizer and burn that? And when finished replace the cap. But the burner attachment does not have multiple uses that other pocket stoves might offer. And the empty cylinder cannot be refilled.
