There are so many amazing country music artists that were hot for a few years, but then either decided to leave the limelight, retire from music, or perhaps ran into roadblocks in their careers. Today I'm looking at acts like The Wreckers, Chris Cagle, Bobbie Gentry, Jamey Johnson and a bunch of others who all just sorta...stopped.

It’s quite depressing to me too, when they were just blowing up back in 2011-12-ish I seen them at a free concert in Louisville Kentucky. Most of the time when “label disputes” happen, its because the artist that has the surprise hit has a little “too good” of a record deal-they are getting writing credits and publishing rights and now that they are popular, the label will not get the majority of the revenue...label just gets rid of them and uses the “Nashville” formula to use studio musicians to pedal copy and past the exact same type song and style to some young artist who doesn’t know their way around the music business and sure enough, they get a hit, tour, but don’t end up with any money.

It got me thinking that this could be a great series of videos if you ever wanted to go that route. The cool part is that it may help remind people of some talented folks who could use a resurgence. Just quickly went through my head, and here are some other artists that have split up, left the business, turned to songwriting, acting, and one that has passed. Here’s some for you: Clay Davidson, Emerson Drive, Little Texas, Gary Allan, Gibson Miller Band, Hal Ketchum, Highway 101, Jack Ingram, James Otto , Jeff Carson, Josh Gracin, Keith Anderson, Kevin Sharp, Larry Stewart, Lisa Brokop, Mark Collie, Michael Peterson, Phil Stacey, Ricochet, Shelby Lynne, Suzy Boguss, Trick Pony. Seems like Everyone in the comments missed this one: Jamie O'Neal. had a massive hit in like.. '99 or 2000 with 'There is No Arizona' and 'When I think About Angels', both off her debut album 'Shiver'. She ended up releasing a new album around 5 years later with the single 'Trying to Find Atlantis' from the album 'Brave', and then the album God Don't Make Mistakes in 2007 (Going off my music collection here). Haven't heard anything since then. Brave and Shiver were both excellent albums. John Michael Montgomery would be an interesting one. He released some good albums in the early and mid 2000s (little girl, letters from home, etc) and then I think (and could be totally wrong here) had some sort of drug issue. His vocal chords were severely messed up. I saw him in 2012 and could not believe it. Any person could've sang better than he was doing on stage. I heard he had some surgery last year and is now singing back at a similar capacity. I'd suggest looking up his live performances over the past 4-5 years to hear what I'm talking about. No vocal control or range. He was still lip syncing sold, i love the way you love me and I can love you like that.

I'd love to see Frankie touring smaller venues. Of all the concerts and festivals I've been to it's always the smaller places that were the most memorable.

I stumbled into a Band Perry gig several years back when they played a Forth of July event at a restaurant/bar in Beaumont, Tx. I was staying in the hotel across the street for work and decided to hang out and listen to some live music after eating lunch. They put on a good show.

I always wondered what happened to Ty Herndon, Paul Brant, Lila McCann and Brian White. I have albums (Cassettes & CD’s) by all of them that I still listen to today.

Ty Herndon is still around and tours. He was my favorite in high school. You should google him.

First off, Jamey Johnson still tours. Second, he wrote a lot of songs for other people like Trace Adkins' "Honkytonk Badonkadonk" and "Ladies Love Country Boys" and composed a ton of other songs for various artists. You make him seem like he's a nobody.

Gary Allan has consistently put out top tier music and has never got the love he deserves.

Gary plays mostly the Southwest, esp New Mexico - California. His released a new song last month (Waste of a Whiskey Drink) but it has yet to chart.
