@@Adrian_Nel ground effect is why it has no front wing it just gets sucked to the ground

@@Adrian_Nel And for that run the ride height had probably been set up pretty high so that the car doesn't break, and that will effectively disable the ground effect, leading to the handling difficulties.

The Beast wasn't designed as a GP car, it was a straight line monster, aiming for the land speed record. Originally, it wouldn't have been run in anything less than clear weather on a straight road

High centre of gravity, chain drive, rear drums, no front brakes, motorcycle tyres, ancient steering and suspension on a car that's specifically designed to go fast in a straight line... The amount of skills and cojones required to drive it on a wet track is immeasurable..

@@ArmyBoiSweat Never met him, but I went to his museum in Ocala, Florida and thought it was outstanding. Only museum I've been to that has Crosleys! My grandfather had a couple of Crosley wagons that he used as inexpensive commuter cars, so he loved seeing one again.

I want to live in the alternate timeline where Group S came into being and we had many happy years of it. And turbo F1 cars didn't get banned and continued development. Of course it may well also be the timeline where hundreds of drivers and spectators died every year. Egads.

Yes it did. Much work was put into it to try and reduce understeer, which it was very prone to with 4 driven wheels at the rear. They experimented with the design to overcome the drag of a large single rear wheel, mostly because they were trying to find a way to counter the horsepower advantage of the turbo cars that were starting to appear. Sadly the FIA deemed it illegal because it had 4 driven wheels so it never raced. Super interesting concept though. If they'd solved the understeer problem it would have been quite a weapon.

it was audis prototype car that would have run in group S, the successor to group B, however the group was scrapped with the end of group B and all that remains are a few rare prototypes (like the toyota 222D, or Lancia ECV)

tetchily the engine only drove the back 4 wheels i believe. it was a concept F1 car built in the 80s after Tyrol had made a 6 wheeler that had 4 at the front but the Williams never raced F1 as the FIA stpulated all cars most have a max of 4 wheels and only two of which can be driven
