Wow, thanks! I just try to create fun videos where I can share the important things I've learned about interior design from being involved with craft for almost 8 years, and getting my college degree in interior design. :)

@@GarrettLeChic I'm agreeing with Tiffany, and also wanted to say that I appreciate how you repeat yourself much less than do some of the other channels. I get it: longer videos, more time for ads, more money made, but it becomes tedious enough for me that I've had to unsub from some channels just because of that. Your style is a breath of fresh air in comparison! : )

@@aMoodWithaView Thanks so much. We feel that around 15 minutes per video is where we want to be. I know the subject well, and I realize my subscribers have other things to do. I like to keep it fun, useful and to the point. Even when we do brand sponsorships we are able to keep the time in the optimal range. I don’t think the majority of viewers have the time or want to watch long drawn out content or fluff. I certainly don’t. Thanks for the comment and your support. 😁😁😁

@@mulliganstew72 honestly it is a sellers market right now. We moved last August and when we sold our home, my realtor told me don’t do anything. I just focused on giving the house a really good cleaning and I decluttered about half of everything we owned. Some I donated and the rest I packed and put it in storage since we were moving anyway. We sold our house in one day for over asking. When we were looking for houses also, we did not focus on the cosmetic appearance of what we were looking at. We focused on if the homes seemed well built and had everything we were looking for and functional.

I couldn’t agree more on the gray tone wood floors. As we look for a house, every time there’s one with gray floors all I can think of is that it’s a trend and will have to be replaced (not a cheap replacement). How did that even become a flooring color?
@karenokeane6461
@karenokeane6461 2 года назад
Agreed! How did ANYTHING gray become such a ghastly trend? Will never forget the first time I saw that color in a decorating space----hope this isn't too catty----years ago on a cover of Martha Stewart Living Magazine which caught my eye at the grocery store. The headline proudly read: Martha's new signature shade for her farmhouse (or something like that) Bedford Gray. Nestled around beautiful green trees/lush flowers, was this (for me) jarring and sterile hue. I cringed, but immediately reasoned how she MUST have been influenced by her (at the time) recent stint in jail; as she had just been released, and was back at work. I'd thought the great domestic doyenne had laid a rare clinker! LOL Never did I think how seemingly everyone in the Western World save myself have gone bonkers for a hue which for me remains forever devoid of warmth. LOL

I looked at an apartment and they were redoing ALL of the apartments with gray flooring and gray walls. Im like, what if I wanted wood tones? I ended up not taking the place.
@karenokeane6461
@karenokeane6461 2 года назад
@@GamerChefGirlie Had the same experience touring an otherwise lovely home I was considering purchasing. The entire flooring space (almost 4000 sq ft) was newly renovated in very costly, very gray ornate tile. The walls were also in that hue, but paint is cheap by comparison, and I would've been okay with changing it. But ripping out all that gray grout and gray tile.....no thanks.

I totally agree. I redid the floors in my entire house last year and it was actually difficult to find floors that weren't either very dark brown or gray. I finally did and I love them. And I still hate gray floors anytime I see them. And everybody I know who has put them in wishes they hadn't.
@Card_Crazed

Where I am, there isn't a lot of natural light coming in.. so we are looking at grey vinyl plank flooring. it does have hints of brown and black in it, but all the other colours in the company that we are doing the flooring in are either way too light and washed out, or a dark brown. I have a seizure disorder, so while I love the lighter flooring, I can't have it. If I get disoriented, I need the contrast to know where my feet are.

I will tell you why I adore this video so much. I don’t do design work anymore, and most of my work was as an assistant. But the ones I learned from, worked for were “old money decorators“. Sometimes I get a little bit self-conscious about my house, but deep down I know I that I know what is chic (How’s that for modest?). There are just wonderful things that you can fall back on over and over, and you hit on several of them that I too wish we saw more of. I love our 1927 condo, which I prefer to call “an apartment”, as its layout is reminiscent of a New York “classic six”. (We can all enjoy our delusions!) The apt building next-door in this historic neighborhood was exquisitely restored over a 2-yr period and I was so thrilled to tour it, but my heart sank when I saw all the gray: gray floors, tiles, cabinetry…oh what were they thinking?? Anyway, I sure do enjoy your videos, thank you!

You are so right on those gray floors, and a touch of lavender, love it. I like the dark rich brown tones of cabinets. Not black, not the reddish mahogany tones, but just a dark chocolate brown, a bit of gloss, tall cabinets, not the 30 inch high. But I think with the right lighting kitchens with those kind of cabinets look gorgeous to me, maybe white tone countertop, but not granite. I have never liked white cabinets. But this is me and that's what I like for me. Haha.

Greco-Roman accessories impart a classic, old-world elegance and that gets a big thumbs-up from me. Shag carpet only belongs on the business end of a dust mop as far as I'm concerned. Always a treat when you post, Garrett. Sage advice and snarky, tongue-in-cheek shade. Yum!

Garrett, you are so right about the diamond pillow layout! I love chandeliers too, I have two venetian glass chandeliers and I love that the crystals just drip with elegance and it's my mission to keep them sparkling. I adore roses, peonies, and cherry blossoms. I also love orchids but they are so hard to grow! I agree plates on the wall are very special and ties your beautiful china into your home décor! I am going to have to replace my kitchen floors in the very near future from these old square porcelain tiles and I just am not sure where to go, I love marble but I know it breaks so easily since I had it in my previous home. The rest of the house has real hardwood so I need something in the kitchen that sort of breaks it up and gives it a high end feel. My pastel right now is an iced mauve. I am doing my upstairs master bath in Hint of Mauve with white trim and cupboards which I am so excited about. I hope it turns out good! Hope you are doing great! Have a happy day!

LOVE the Jasperware…dislike the faux tulips in that magnificent piece, sorry. I am not a fan of faux. That’s me. We have a natural stone wall of Israeli Stone, which is white, gray and some pinkish tones throughout, and chose a grey floor. Never regretted my choice. I do have a white fur area rug to ground the furniture…(yes, the up keep is horrendous). The dated trend that won’t go away: I HATE recliner sofas! The cup holders 😵‍💫…the pillowy arms🤯. Just please make them go away. They make me feel like I am in an AMC Theater without the buttered popcorn, (which is a very sad thought). On the topic of pillows I entirely agree with no diagonal…and a trend I also hate is the karate chopped pillows. I'm sure there will be a lot of hate towards this "dated" decorating idea, but when it comes to dated furniture... DRESSERS. I HATE big dressers. Now, smaller dressers or highboys are one thing, but I'm talking about the enormous 12-drawer units that take up an entire wall--plus their attached mirrors. Some of our possessions need to be in drawers, especially in homes where there isn't a lot of closet space--we don't fancy hanging our underwear in pouches on the back of a door with a dollar-store hanging piece--but, more often than not, a big dresser is little more than a heavy dust collector and a key spot for both open (a messy dresser top) and secret (stuffed in a drawer) hoarding. "Where do I put this?" Stick it in the drawer. "I don't have a place to hang this!" Stick it in a drawer. "I'm not in the mood to fold this!" Stick it in a drawer. "As long as things aren't out and lying around and messy, so it's all right!" No. No, it's not. I'm sorry, but it is just wasted space for a piece of furniture that is difficult to move and even more difficult to keep organized.

I never had that "not so fresh Daytona time share" look, thankfully! LMAO! I love muted/grayed pastel shades, if that makes sense. Just a wee bit of gray in the color mix makes it look sophisticated. I changed my bedding for my birthday this year, and switched the teals and rust for slightly muted teals, greens, and blues and a hint of clay rose, and I am in love with it. I haven’t bothered to do anything with it, because I had kids and animals. Now the kids are grown and animals dead. I think I will redo my house which is why I’ve been watching your videos. My house is a one of a kind architecturally designed after an English hunting cottage. I want to design it exactly like that with some deep rich browns, black, red and green. I have oak doors cabinets and molding everywhere and gold metal already, I just need the oak floors, some beautiful tapestries and oil paintings. Still love love love single color matte Weller or Van Briggle ceramic vases. My dislikes- I dislike luxury vinyl tile. Don’t care for it. I would go for ceramic tile in a kitchen and/or bathroom, and a refinish of old hardwoods everywhere else. You do a fantastic job.

The decor item I think should be deleted is, colored backings on window treatments. I feel you should have a neutral uniform appearance from the street. I am riding around with scissors and rubber bands to spot some full pampas to cut, that's the only way I can justify securing some grass. 🙄😃🌝Then I will buy a can of hairspray from dollar tree to minimize the shedding. Watching your videos is equivalent to a , master class in home decor. 👍

Can you please make an video on how to elevate the bedroom with edroom.sets...I know...bedroom sets are not curative....but. just to play safe we went for it...than being non cohesive... Please give us some tips on woode ....bedroom sets how to make more interesting....bedroom with it...thank you in advance!!

Thanks so much! I would eventually break up the set, and use pieces of it in other rooms and then add other pieces to the bedroom that are different, but work with what you have. You could also bring in interesting decor pieces and lamps, fine curtains and bedding to add more interest and elevation to the room.

I grew up with lions, and tigers, and jaguars, oh my! I never got over it. Ceramics, I mean. When I do find them, $$$. My friend sent me a picture of a lamp she was considering at her favorite vintage store, and all I could see, buried in the corner, was my darling, Savanah (I name my favorite pieces, and, yes I know, she’s Siberian). She was less than most ceramic tigers, and before you could say “Dorthy,” I had her home gracing my mantel. I love her, pet her, and have given her her own spotlight. I wish I could send you a photo (you: I love it for you, sniff!) but I put it on my profile pic 👈 just in case you own an electron microscope and you can see her.

Shag? No. Just NO. Looks awful, make it STOP! Another thing that always makes me cringe are those recliner chairs. Or sofas. Chairs can have ottomans. Recliners just look so tacky! I know it's a 'guy thing' but really. No. Guys can get used to an ottoman. Junk the recliner!
@GarrettLeChic
@GarrettLeChic 2 года назад
Agreed! Great comment Kathy. However, with respect to recliners I don't think it's just a guy thing as I've gotten many comments in support of recliners from ladies as well, and in a past video I've shown stylish examples of them for those who are considering recliners. :)

My brother had a cobalt blue, medium green and pale sea green shag carpet in his room in the 70's, wall to wall carpet. Yes, three colors in one rug. Then his room walls were a pale sea green. It was nasty. My other brother had cobalt blue (all one color) shag with bright yellow walls and cobalt blue trim around the windows and doors. Also a color nightmare. I have a stained glass square-pyramid lampshade on a bedside table lamp, and it's Mission/Arts & Crafts, so fairly timeless. Tulips are one of my FAVORITE flowers. My bridal bouquet was large white tulips and peach roses 20+ years ago. I even made a special trip to visit Keukenhof Gardens in 2014 at the end of daffodil season and beginning of tulip season (got to enjoy both!), and it was GLORIOUS! If you love tulips, I highly recommend in 2nd week of April, travel to the Netherlands and visit Keukenhof Gardens. It's tulip heaven!

Garrett, love tuning into your videos. Entertaining and educational. There is one trend in decor that I neither understand nor like. Perhaps you can address and explain the concept of putting books on a book shelf backwards (so the pages are showing rather than the spine). I love browsing books (yes, in my friends homes) and when they are all backwards that is impossible. In addition, it looks so bland, don’t you think?!

Shaggy is fabulous as a wall hanging. I have pets and friends with crawling babies in diapers. There is no way I can have shag on my floor. I feel the same about Pampas grass, twigs, and branches. Why? Feels like the person can't afford fresh flowers and is trying to pass sticks off as vogue. In this case, don't have anything.

Great video. One dated decor I love is MCM furniture. I flip over furniture at Goodwill and if it’s stamped Mercman and in good shape, I have to have it, and also I love Chromecraft tables and chairs for the comfort. I like both the modern and vintage. I can spot a set instantly by the great craftsmanship. Modern decor I dislike is Farmhouse. It’s been done to death already and a little goes a long way. Hate the Rae Dunn stuff too. I know what a cookie jar is, a mug, and a cream pitcher without bold ugly font telling me.

Oh Garrett, I love your sense of humor! I chuckled a couple of times, 'reminds me of a timeshare' and then pampas grass, never for me! As for the long stems in the middle of the room reminds me of the tall display of bamboo in the '80s. No, just no!

Shag carpet needs to go... I had it in several apartments I lived in and it was horrible. It trapped dust and hid Barbie shoes and legos like tiny land mines. I used a child's garden rake to keep the nap up. On the other hand stained glass is timeless. Especially the Tiffany inspired pieces.
