How are we doing for 2 days in with 4 of us? I'd say we're doing alright. Subscribe if you're not already! Let's hit 20K today! For those that wanted to know lifespan of a Diablo Router Bit.. That bit did all of Season 1 & 2's windows, and it's still sharp doing the windows here.

MattBangsWood save a good amount of studs if you use off cuts from plates or something for you”channels” and replace that full stud in the middle with 3-1ft ish blocks instead. We call our channels stud black studs. Use then on every corner too instead of California corners. Personally i like stud block studs better, leaves u room to shove insulation in if needed and can be easier for the electricians in some cases.

Hey Matt, did that router bit have a bearing on it? Next time try the Diablo 1/2” shank panel pilot bit. No bearing needed and it has a sharp piercing point for plunge cuts. Most lumber yards carry this bit or a generic version of it.
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Hey! I think you've mentioned that bit before, and I really want to try it. I wouldn't have to claw a hole to start either, which would be really really nice! My local yards don't carry them, I'll probably have to buy them on Amazon! The bit i'm using is a Flush Trim Bit - with a bearing. A few months ago I had a bearing fly off, scary stuff!

It's like watching myself work...pov is Kool. makes 8' look way smaller. i prefer to sheet walls laying sheets horizontal if its possible but i know some places or builds don't allow that. I don't have a cordless/ router so i like to cut my windows out as i go cause ppl cant cut good with the Sawzall or they bevel the plywood so windows flanges cant touch the wall. routers are nice though if you sheet it on the ground or have a lift with a man basket so fast.

I get how blocking the wall like that before it’s installed makes it quicker and sturdier, but doesn’t it lower the r value significantly in that area because now they cannot insulate behind that. Thx
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Not sure - I doubt it, have to think.. Studs are the same thing, but 92-1/4” tall, they insulate above and below. It calls out for a 4’ block line on plans, but we have our ways of blocking that we stick to.

what’s the difference between a shear wall vs a regular wall? are there noticeable differences when looking at them?
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Shear walls will have specified shear nailing (6/12, 4/12, MUST use 10d’s) along with spec’d out sheathing. Shear walls will have hold downs at both ends. Technically, non shear sections don’t need OSB at all. Some framers do it that way.. We don’t. We sheet everything! I’ll explain more in my structural plan reading video!
