My grandfather and father used to hang iron for a living. The old man use to walk across beams a couple hundred feet in the air in the days before OSHA and tie offs. No wonder they often took a couple nips before work. They all had balls of steel.

It's looking great, Matt! The progress you all make in hours is equal to what it takes me in weeks! How do you address the wall OSB swelling (after a rain, for example) between the edges of adjacent sheets that cause unevenness by ~1/8"-3/16"? Does that ever reflect through to say the siding installation?
@MattBangsWood
@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Depending on the build, it’ll call for 3/8” on some shear sections and 1/2” on others. So we have differences anyways. Even after rain, it’s never noticeable in siding. 😊

@MattBangsWood 5 лет назад
Many things can be done. If it’s terrible, 1”+, we’ll custom cut all studs, similar to how you would a rake wall. Shimming is done as well, but we’ve never had to. It’s either really good or really bad! We did a house last year that had (3) 2” dips on different spots on the house.

YOU KNOW what else you might try to set you apart and really make you customers talk good about you? Tell them you used the scraps and BANGOUT a custom kids playhouse or doghouse or even a small shed for free. Thats about how much scraps you got left too if you knocked out all three. PRICELESS!! With your chops you could draft that out on a piece of wood and bang it out skipping lunch! Leave'em unpainted for them to do even. I just seen a small 10x10 or less shed on FB marketplace for $750 I know that ain't much more than a $100 of material there. Good luck buddy and great work. #KAG

One thing that strikes me is that our local authorities would never let you guys work at height like that, without a full scaffold around the whole of the building. YOU MIGHT put a call out to local high schools and votecs for Interns (free labor) four week courses for hands on training. Even some production (camera etc.) students. That's a very valuable skill you have there and if an individual can read a ruler can pretty much teach it to anyone. Focus on quality of work and money will flow to you like breathing. If regulations and cost make it prohibitive post on FB your friends kids. I did plenty construction but framers are a select bunch. And despite several efforts of just walking up on jobs offering to clean up job sites but never could get in. It certainly docen't look all that hard but but some people seam to excel at it. Thats good work by the way. #Psalm19

That’s a cool idea about bringing out HS kids for a sort of ‘Advanced Shop Votec’ thing but you can only imagine the liability issues that would arise. And I can just see the school board wanting to tell Matt (or his dad) how things should go. Two things get a paslodes positive placement nailer that palm thing is annoying lol and I've said it before wall jacks it's safer and easier plus 2 guys could have lifted that wall instead of six

@@mikeenglish2699 I use wall jacks every day from set up to wall standing and braced is less then 5 mins and I'm able to stand 56' 2x6 walls with 2 guys 1 if I really need to and still have a guy framing. I currently run myself and 1 guy and turn 2200 sqft house every seven days

Go the extra mile and yes overkill use marine plywood for closing in. Expensive yes, but gives better protection when leak issues happen. And as a subfloor under sinks toilets and other things that use and can leak water.

@ Jay Bloggs - 😆 Right! Could you imagine going to the owner with a change order: Owner - “What’s this?” You - “I thought marine plywood would work better in this area!” Owner - “Yea, you’re right. I like it! Who paid for it?” You - “☹️” 🤜🤛

@@psidvicious its discussed before build. I pulled off siding and vapor barrier to find a wall that needed to come off because water was finding a way to get behind barrier. A few extra bucks woulda prevented a whole wall from being removed and replaced.

@@psidvicious how many times has water got behind vapor barrier and ruined walls. How many plumbing parts failed and the subfloor needed to be pulled up and replaced.
