I played throughout my childhood, but I quit after a while, then minecraft became a big thing when I was 12 and 13. I love making symmetrical bases, but I havent played probably since 2009 or 2010. I kinda remember my way around the game though!

I quit playing for a couple years and then came back to play a few days ago. It's like everybody is pro now. Every game I've played, people use coordinated and well-timed attacks, have a solid eco, use good unit combinations, and even know how to use their cannons right. It is very hard for me; the bar is set so high it seems impossible to become an exceptional player anymore because the average player today would be a pro if he could go back in time to when the game was released. It doesn't look like there is much room for creativity anymore because all the tactics have already been created and perfected to a very high degree. The best I could hope for now is to approach the perfection which seems to be totally average among the remaining player base now.

yea but same of AoE2, since Pro players have created perfect build orders its get even hard on middle high ranks, cause players start to learn and the skill bar gets high really fast. Other examples are Warcraft 2 and Starcraft 2

I mostly play the Wars of Liberty mod now but am too nervous to play online. I'm not the best player but just looking to learn and have fun, sadly i get wrecked and made fun of everytime so i stick to SP.

The thing about that is the more you play, the better you get. Yes watching samurai revolution's videos will teach, but you gotta use the information practically. My win rate is 45% which is bad for the level I'm at but it's 45% because I lost so many games in my noob days. Slowly you will start enjoying losing as you'll meet people that want to teach you. THIS GAME HAS INCREDIBLE MEMORIES THROUGH OUT THE YEARS OF ONLINE GAME PLAY!

You know, I think it would be interesting to see the type of videos that Spirit of the Law does for AoE 2. I mean you could do detailed analysis of certain gameplay mechanics, decks, units. AoE 3 is a much more complicated game than it's predecessor, and yet it lacks such sort of content.

Sooo . Every so often i come back here. To bask in the immortalization of being the opening player in this video... Only to know, i will never whale again... This game you used as the example was so fun. And ive watched your video showing your side of it. Truly a masterclass in what i was doing back then. Lol pur ally was actually killed. Lol, not quit, but killed down to the man. You were shitting your pants trying to make population after your town kept being burned... Only to look at the sea... The glory of the 99 boats in under 7 minutes. Im pretty sure if memory surves me right i went full mercs with manlukes to turn the tide into imperial units coming from the coast... I miss my old game. Now.... I ruin every game i join. Zerg rush unto death! We play under 10s now since they took the whales. The fun ones are under 9minutes 4v4

You missed one. The Builder. This guy doesnt give a shit about winning, hell, doesnt even care about making military, or they suck at it. They want the nicest, most tranquil looking base, containing every possible building, laid out with utmost care and precision to maximise the aesthetic appeal. Screw forward bases or builds, this guy wants, nay, NEEDS, the most beautiful town on earth. They lose in two ways. 1. Rushed within five minutes 2. Demolished after 30 minutes after their entire team has already resigned and been wrecked, and the enemy team attacked them last. Probably resigns as soon as attacked to save his beautiful town.

Same here. I have seperate decks for team battles, with usually around 4 team cards in it. Like the +10% faster mining in age1. I'm mainly a nr player around rank 13. Low rank lobbies see me as a god and rank 20+ don't allow me because I'm too low. Glad I got a 1v1 against a rank 22, who had a deck for 1v1 on that specific map -_-. Learned some stuff from that battle and the guy rated me as MS.

I am the offline aoe player as I play mostly offline due to how much of a speed game it feels when playing online where you have to do so much at once all over the map and I prefer to pause and give orders to units and unpause when playing offline.

I used to play this game (2006-2010) and recently have been getting back into it. And I gotta say I'm surprised how much things haven't really changed. I'm still able to look at a match and pick out Smurfs, or know who's going to be toxic almost solely based on their avatar.

ive been playing since 2006 .. i had 2 terrific teamates .... longest game was nearly 5 hours NR30 which consisted of 3v3 which turned into a war of attrition which ended up in both sides sacrificing their base to raid the other team..which resulted in a completely switching map sides and a complete rebuild ...... we finally won and the post game stats were absolutely sickening .. the fact i can clearly remember 1 particular AoE3 game 12 years later ....

Really hoping this game gets a Definitive Edition with server based play. It's bloody hard to not get kicked from a lobby for bad ping when playing from Australia and the level system just exacerbates the issue.

actually no, look on AoE2 Community, Warcraft 3, Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes they all got active and living communitys. I appreciate very RU-vidr that brings RTS content cause we are living in a heavy MOBA and FPS dominated gaming world.

I remember my first team mate being a captain. He gave me advice on how to play and eventually invited me to his clan. I also remember playing against another captain and we actually discussed strategies after the game. Those were good times. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the guys but at the very least I still seem to be part of the clan the pureface and mercenaries.

hi, not about age of empires but i played in a Rome II Communits Tournament once, and the players i played against were all friendly and even analyzed the games afterwars with me, discussing were mistakes happend and exchanged strategys and experiences with each other, i call those player "The Wise" - willing to teach and willing to learn at the same time.

I personnaly don't play mp aoe3 (anxity problems) but i think the german heavy infantry tells you they are not taking the game seriously because while the unit is prety good against melee and buildings they are not good against cavalry or any high damage ranged unit

No need to give up. Theres tutorials online and a bunch of guidlines on how to play on the forums. Its a really fun and competetive game once you get through all the learning required to play it.

Bro my friends are realy real bad in aoe and i mean i destroy Them in a 1vs5 but when i watch Them play its fun becouse all on the same lvl and they dont play like meta or civ powers like France the op cav becouse he dont know about it and i can tell you that you just unluky when you go in Lobbys check there ACC like winrate played and shit so you dont get one who have 100 %winrate in like 50 games

I played together with my friend for years and one day we decided to try out online multiplayer. 2 accounts on lowest rank, 0 matches played. Proceeded to rush our opponents with turks/russians because we read online that many do, rekt em so they called us smurfs and left. Good times.

I used to as a kid alot as well as Age of Mythology. I still pick it up occassionslly. I enjoy medieval games. Now I play total War Warhammer a lot. If AOE4 came out and it was medieval I would purchase it immediately.

I hate when people whine about their teammates not listening to them and playing how they want them to play! You think everyone plays just to support you guys and follow your lead? NO! People play to have fun and enjoy the game. Not to be your back up or be your servant and do what you want them to! ITS A GAME! ITS MEANT TO BE PLAYED FOR FUN! Play for fun and enjoy the game. No xxx: The player who has mostly played the warchiefs trial version, always goes for germans and california 1vs1 map, while loves to listen the word :"Angriff!" when he clicks on the skirmisher. In team game, he counts as 25% of a player and always loses its eco balance in colonial age ;). Thats me baby

the dropper and smurfs are the worst.. Im a new player and ive lost countless games because a guy pllayed for 20 minutes than decides he doesnt want to play, causing other teammate to not wanna play leaving you alone, so annoying... or when you try join "NOOB ONLY" games and you get booted, for being a noob, ugh, sometimes it takes so long to get a game going with my shit ratings.. i cant blame my ratings completely on smurfs or droppers, but they contributed to at least 40% of my lost games, making it even harder to get my rank and win percentage up.. sometimes i wonder if its even worth playing anymore

You missed one: The Loyalist: Plays only one of the 4 Age titles (1/2/3/M) and claims its the perfect one and the others are shit. (My favorite is 2 tho but 3 is no bad, but not as good as 2 in my opinion)

This community is good but wierd. Whenever I play i always loose and nobody ever helps me out. I never get tips from anybody , its a fun game otherwise

I'm the Great Plains guy lol. I feel like Deccan is too easy though. G plains is perfectly balanced imo but boring as hell after a while. Andes is also cool

I hate great plains because its an unfair map. One Game i Had 4 Close hunts and my enemy Had one. The hunts Spawn too randomly on GP and therefore it often is unfair bs

Im new to online aoe, and im pretty noob. Ive played a ton of singleplayer but id like to find someone that can help me become better. I did get my first win in a 2v2 but i got ki'da carried by my teammate

You forget the *BAD* player that doesn't know what to do and runs out all the resources the whole time. I am that kinda player hälp plz

TBH I'm not new to AoE3 😂 but I have no experience playing actual players. Usually I play skirmish try new maps/ civs I like rushing Germany so i can get my black riders, they are by far my personal favourite units. At some point though I'd love playing against other players

Yeah black riders are very good against heavy cav (especially spahi and mamelukes). Things like cruissaire is different tho, they are too OP
