This is the best shop tips compilation I’ve seen! When I was a kid, girls weren’t allowed to take shop class. I’ve had to figure out so much through trial and error. Having someone show you how to do even the easy stuff makes such a difference. Say, if you ever make another video like this, I really suck at getting measurements right for fitting angle cuts together with any semblance of precision; as in picture frames and butting trim into a corner. It’s also a struggle to figure out any angle for anything other than 45 degree. But I bet that’s easy with the right tool. lol

So true! I wanted to take shop class in HS and couldn't...boys only. I had to take Home Economics which I almost failed. But my Dad helped alot. For example, he gave me a toolbox filled with Craftsman tools for my college graduation. I still have it plus many more. In fact, I had more tools, power and otherwise, than my husband when we got married. Now, I just have to keep after him to put them back where they belong after he "borrows" them! LOL

You don't need to destroy your Irwin clamps to reverse them. That pin is there for strength. You take fixed end off like you did, than you flip it around and reattach it to the back side of the clamp. Easy peasy. All trigger squeeze type clamps like those Irwins work like that.
@HAXMAN
@HAXMAN 2 года назад
This is an older one. You have to remove the pins to flip it. The pin on this clamp is there to keep the the sliding part from slipping off the bar.

I used the ca glue and activator to fix a 1” hole in my trailer light housing. It worked really well and is still holding up really well. If you’re drilling a horizontal hole. You can put a ring on the drill bit and it should stay in place if your level. If you’re off it’ll slide forward or backwards

A good use for a spreader is when you need to adhere something to a wall (like molding) and the wall isn't perfectly straight (they never are). And typically, this happens right in the center of the wall where there's not a door frame or something to clamp against. In a case like that, find the high spot you need to apply pressure to, then grab a long 2x4 and use it in combination with your spreader/clamp to push from the opposing wall. This trick is great for "smoothing out" MDF baseboards or chair rails so that you don't have a giant 1/2" gap along the back of your trim. Normally, you'd be cutting the trim and/or backfilling with a TON of caulk to close up large gaps like that. But MDF is flexible enough to just force the trim piece into the same shape as the wall using a spreader and a 2x4 like a jack.

First time I tried the super glue baking soda trick i tried to make a paste from the two. That's when I learned you don't need the activator when using baking soda. It takes only seconds to harden on it's own. I also prefer to put the glue down first to make sure it's in contact with the project, than just dump on the soda and blow off the excess. When filling in deep gaps or larger areas it's best to do a little layer at a time to make sure the glue and soda combine well. BTW, I used this trick to fill in a cracked plastic nut on a guitar with the intent to replace it. That was over 20 years ago and still holding.
@davidwilliss5555
@davidwilliss5555 2 года назад
The trick of using glue and the dust from sanding to make a putty also works with CA glue. I've filled gaps on a guitar by squeezing a bit of CA glue in the gap and then hitting it with an orbital sander. This worked well when the two pieces were different kinds of wood too.

Some guys think I'm bullshitting when I say this but I make one line. And I can tell by looking at it which side i started on by the shape of depth of indentation on either end. And I always start at my tapes edge. But this annoys most people so when working with others I waste twice as much time drawing Vs 🙄.

@@HAXMAN it shouldn't be flipped and go back on the same side of the bar. You remove the fixed side and just move it to the other end of the clamp (facing the same direction). Then again maybe your clamps are different but I wonder what the purpose of them making it removable is?
